30. Monsters in combat, new ones are: Enchantress and Sea-Priestess, (the skeleton sniper you’ve seen before). Also present is the male pirate hero, previously the pirate heroes have been substituted by knights or barbarians.



Two small bonuses:
This time they are related to a wonderful practice by the creators of Heroes- NWC, namely of reintroduction; reintroduction of features that we’ve seen in past iterations of the series.  In the second third and fourth Heroes games we can see elements taken directly and reworked, from earlier incarnation of the Heroes series. This can be seen with artifacts, objects, the appearance of units as well as elements of the interface (for example the “Dismiss creature” button in Heroes 3 is nearly identical to the “Bloodlust” spell from Heroes 2).

Many players enjoyed seeing familiar bits in newer games, but far from everything that could be borrowed from earlier games was actually reused. A ruthless selection process eliminated many features and images which could have been utilized, and quite possibly would have looked even better than what ended up being actually used.

1. Several reworked artifacts from Heroes 2 will be returning to Heroes 3, but not all of them will retain their original properties. For example, the three Medals familiar to us all will keep their original properties, but when equipped will get an additional bonus such as morale not only increasing by 3 but also being impossible to lower below 3.

ahoy mateys! here i am. there's nothing to worry about. we're making some good progress towards the first playable beta. it'll become available somewhen between april and may, also we're preparing to launch the project's official webpage, which takes its toll on our time. keep your spirits high, no reason to worry. HotA progress is going smooth so don't think we gave it all up if we don't turn up for a while. by the way, here come three new teasers:

31. new map objects, including a worldmap model for the pirate hero, Gazebo (works similar to heroes II), the Youth Fountain (all of the hero's creatures get a +25% health boost until the end of the next battle), the Ocean's Teardrop artifact and the brand new Pirate Battleship, a special class of ships available in the Cove town class exclusively


32. monsters in battle: Sorceress, different types of pirates (pirate / corsair/ daredevil), Sea Dogs / Swashbucklers and the Sea Serpent.


33. monsters in battle: the second hero type seen in combat (femele). The Nyx models were subject to a few cosmetical changes, Sorceress, and Sea Serpent on his way to kick some beholder ass

Of course it would be better if they posted every evening something like: "Guys, we're working hard. HotA is going to be released in this year. Undoubtfully."

One of their key member is getting married at the moment. As there is a season of student exams in Russia in June a lot of members who study at the universities have to study hard now. And as far as I know they're doing well. It's a good news for all who know them but it's bad for everybody who just wants that Hota will be released soon.

Stack experience system will be redone.

At official russian forum was opened a new topic. It's may be interesting for you as any person can take there a task. It may be a simple script or an artifact picture or smth else. You just post there that you're going to begin on it. When your work is ready it will be checked by team member and included into add-on. And if you wish your name will be included into the list of participants.

So, if there are people who want to help HotA team this way, I'm ready to ask developers to open a topic like that here. I'll translate tasks and everybody will be able to take part in hota developing.

Let's discuss it.
First of all there are no any resources in HotA which are closed for users. Exe files aren't changed (just a little mb), all graphics are available to everybody, you just need to open archive. ERM is a tool which allows you to change almost everything including some hota special things.
So what does it mean - open HotA?

VCMI is a code-based project. And I understand what "open sources" means for them. HotA has no any sources which aren't open.
So I'm almost sure we won't see an announce about using GNU.The main reason is that it has no practical use. Nothing will change if there are words about GNU in the readme.

Add-on will be free, you will be able to copy it freely. You also will be able to modify it but it will become your modification, not "the improved version of HotA". What name does it has? Who cares.

Strictly speaking VCMI (in its final builkd; if we see this one of course) will be... Heroes III based on other coding platform.
I'm sure that if VCMI developers decide to include hota town into their project HotA developers won't try to prevent them from it. Moreover they will definitely get hota developers' help if they ask.

Yep, we have some problems with translation. There are only few people in hota team who are able to explain their thoughts in English. Although I'm not a team member sometimes I help them with messages translation. Tranlsation of add-on is much more difficult task and it requires perfect English. I know only one man who can help us but we're not sure about him.
That's why it would be very nice if we found a guy whos native language is English and in the same time who knows Russian. And if we don't achieve help from any professional translator, it will be possible to translate Hota even if that person is able to contribute with a lower-intermediate level of Russian.

Anyway, I answered some people who had suggested to translate Hota into Polish, Hungarian and some others languages. But help with english version won't be out of place.

It depends on how many versions will be released. As a minimum there will be 3 new towns. Actually the Cove (or Heroes' towns should be used without "the"?) will be the most considerable feature of the Hota 0.1 version. They have some thoughts about the 4th town but it's too early to speak about it as every x.0 version needs about 6-8 (as I think) months of development.

I received a mail with a suggestion. It was suggested that we should register a twitter account and post little messages about how work is going. For instance, when an artist of Hota crew makes an object or monster he may post about it some information and details.
As I understand the objective of that mini-blog is not that it will give information but that it will constantly prove that the work is going on. May be when the website is ready they won't need it anymore.

I'm sure it's not difficult for the developers to do such thing, but is it really necessary?

Hota (not sure about beta) can be installed on any version: both SoD and WoG.
About cooperating with VCMI: when it is released, why not? I'm sure the developers of Hota are ready to favour the development of Heroes 3. Darkloke is a wog team member and it seems that they don't want to see their add-on in VCMI.
Anyway if "when it's released" = "a year" a lot may change. We'll see.

It's almost impossible that one day Hota and Wog will be compatible one with another. And the reason for it is not that it's very hard to do this technologically. The main reason is that they're too different.
May be you, players, can see only new towns. Yes, there will be new towns in Hota and Wog both. And they all will be (at last) nice balanced. And finally they all will be original and interesting towns.
Hota is a classical add-on. It means that there are no place in Hota for many Wog features as they break the basis of Heroes 3 (as we think). Wog is a nice technological instrument but most of its gameplay changes are doubtful, innovative but doubtful.
That's why it can't be (for now) compatible. Because Wog and Hota offer you different games. It makes no sence to unite them.

There are 4 well-known homm forums (heroes community, celestial heavens, 3.5 wog forum and russian forum). WoG has more threads than 80% on all forums beside russian forum. HotA has 1 thread in each forum beside the russian forum. how can u say that WoG is less open to the community?WoG is listening to all people from all communities since it was released. *rollseyes*

The idea about Harbor originated in late 2005, early in 2006 began the discussion, and then were quite serious perturbations in the team until, finally, by the end of 2006, was formed the backbone of the team - it is Necronix, author of the town idea, Deo - an artist and creator of the town emulator, and your humble servant, who came to the project in October 2006, initially as a composer, but then started in conjunction with Nekronix creation of a full-fledged concept of the city.

By the time of my arrival in the project, it has was fully approved list of creatures - and, in fact, that was all, although it was certainly a good basis for creating the concept, but all the rest, one way or another, created from scratch, including the specification (although they were too), balancing, spells, buildings, characters, campaign, artifacts, etc. In January 2007, began its work Harbor site, which had sketches of creatures, buildings, etc. In the same place and then was posted an excellent sketch Deo Sea snake, which in various modifications is included in the Cove now as a def file from Alex-Ander.

Within the whole year 2007 the work was very fruitful, so that by the end of the year, was ready not only the entire concept of Harbor, but 90% of the Town Campaign. In addition, the city had already been tested and the the left things were only to finalize the schedule and build it into a game. And in that moment the idea of Cove appeared. We and Nekronix perplexed - what it took to do, in fact, a duplicate of a city that is about to be released?

We simply were not aware then that the situation with the town integraion is just awful, so between the full establishment of the concept and its implementation is a deep abyss. Even now, after more than a year and a half, this situation has not yet been resolved, and then, in this sense, was in general a dark forest.

What happened next is what happened. There are two global projects: WoG and HoTA. Harbor, by Nekronix efforts, joined WoG, and Cove became the foundation of Harbor. I actually left there the project (and indeed wish to withdraw from Heroes), but, ironically, here and I am writing this post.

Of course, it took a long time, look at many things changed in the sense of Harbor. Now it will have a completely different town. In fact, from the previous concept will remain intact only substance  of a Harbor. There will be another schedule, I think, almost 100% different. In general, perhaps, all that happens - happens for the better. The town, in any case would be more mature than would be one and a half years ago.

But Cove never became a full-fledged city water, on the assumption that there is now, though, perhaps the developers do not need it, or they are not quite aware of - how this water town should be. Pirates - these robbers, who even among themselves cannot live peacefully, not to speaking about other creatures or races. Yes, in the history of MM there is Regna, pirate enclave (something like Tortuga, apparently), but the available material isnt enough to establish something worthwhile, and the Cove and Regna as I understand it, dont have any common.

By its spirit a town close to the Guild of Thieves, but developers didnt develop this idea, although I think here the chances to create something interesting are better. In general, the result is so that the city has no clear ideological grounds, coupled with the fussy, just to create a sense of farce. And this is not the momentary feeling - the city was originally built in the quaint mixture of idealess and plagiarism. It is therefore in itself a city does not have the internal motivation of the game - only with the external "recharge" and such "fueling" is a Harbor. So, apparently, thats why men now have peculiar types of reminiscences Cove-Harbor, some Dejavu in mind.

Thats why there is a need to clarify the origins of some of the most "Dejavu".



EDIT: i see we're not going anywhere with this discussion. i suggest to stop this discussion about connecting WoG and HotA till VCMI, HotA and WoG 3.59 are partially released. Then we will continue the discussion
