I have spendt almost 1 1/2 hour reading through this thread, sometimes light and sometimes very detailed.
What happened to you mighty mage? How are things going?
And I am really happy for you emilsn (acctually a bit jealous envious) Way to go!
Btw, I've never had a girlfriend, don't even know if I've ever had that true lovefeeling. I mean ... I have been in love with pretty girls... I once aksed a girl "the question", but she said no. I was stupid enough to do it by sms  I was also miles away, on holiday (sitting on a toilet acctually). As if that weren't enough, she had declined another guys proposal some days earlier, which I knew about. I was so stupid!!! quite a big joke really, now
Another time I almost made another girl ask one for me!! imagine that. It's so childish. I can't acctually believe I even considered it. Well, that's my love stories

Even if she says no, her respect for you will grow for you having the guts to do so.
Also, I did that once (asking a friend to ask that certain someone).
@emilsn: Well, it seems that your relationship is moving a bit fast. But, then again, that's hard to judge from the sidelines. Keep at it!

Hmm always thought it was completely opposite,if she says no,then my respect for her will drop and so will hers,just because she will feel so much better that i tried to ask her.

I'm living evidence that a yes/no letter or a SMS = FAIL.
Unless they're really in love with you (in which case why are you asking so impersonally in the first place? ) they're bound to say no...

I mean, it could be worse. You could have a whole month off from school/work and the girl you like get a bf in the meantime; all the while you being unable to find a way to communicate with her.
