I haven't read the replies but i did read mighty mage's post.
So in your question what is love.
Love is the "feeling" that only can be given.You loved her MM, cause you needed someone to give your love.When she told you that this doesn't work you felt sad cause you knew that you can't give your love to her anymore. Not because you couldn't take her love.
Love is needed for Humans because through love we forget our mortality.When love hits our door we think in the back of our mind that we are becoming immortals somehow.That's why humans live together. Imagine a life being "isolated" with no one to give your love.
I wrote that love is the feeling that only can be given.The love that can make us feel better is the love we can give.Taking love is the easy part and in truth can't make us feel better.For example consider how many people take so much love and they are so sad.That's because they failed to give their love.Just think the so many famous people who take all that strong love from many people and they are so sad.
Love is the same with sorrow/grief.For example when a person we love very much passes away we don't cry or grief for him.We cry for US but we can't understand it.In fact we don't care at all for him.We care for us who stayed back and we have a less person to give our love.And just because reminds us in so perfect way how mortals we are.
My advice is for all to learn to give our love.It's a very hard part.
It's not something like "I love you and i do care for you" it's something upper and all we have our "obstacles" and limits to give it.
We so afraid to give it and when we give it and something stops us for giving it like in your case MM we feel sad, depressed and so "down".

There was an uber annoying girl in my class that stalked me
I had no interests in her but fortunaly she has given up that battle and stopped following me.
She doesnt talk to me as much either.
We did sing Singstar together which was pretty fun though
I love karaoke.
