So, are you guys getting the newest Pokemon game?
I'm can't decide. On one hand an enjoyable tried-n-true game that is probably fun. On the other it looks like the same ol' stuff we've been playing for years now with only a few quality of life improvements, but almost nothing in terms of true novelty, story or something truly captivating...

I'll buy a new Pokemon game when Nintendo releases a version where you can visit all the regions and complete a full national dex. You pick a region to start in and you have to become the champion to move on. None of the Teams like Rocket, or Aqua, or Galactic. Just you, exploring and capturing Pokemon. And the Legendaries are in the world for you to find on your own.
Until then, I won't be.

I'll not buy a Nintendo game until they start putting them on sale. 120 (currency) for a ten year old game? 80 (currency) for a 30 year old game? What an annoying sales policy.
But I can wait, oh yes, I'm very patient. Stone shall turn to ash before I purchase a video game for more than a dollar!

It’s hard not to look at the new Pokémon game as something ‘more’ since it’ll be the debut console edition of a Pokémon game. And under that light I look at games like BotW, Mario odyssey, or FE three houses, and you clearly see the transformation from their previous titles. Pokémon is simply NOT getting that kind of treatment. The whole thing looks like a 3ds game with a very underwhelming graphics upgrade. Reviews say the wild area isn’t fleshed out much, not many trainers, hallway dungeons, and empty routes.
What doesn’t help is all the controversy surrounding it. I’ve read a lot of quotes about how they keep aiming for quality. Quality models and animations, and I think that’s a great direction to go. But then you see that clip of a Pokémon using double kick, and it’s still model just hops twice and that’s the move...
The fire emblem comparison is probably the best since that game is mostly handheld. The graphics and animations were obviously improved and they introduced a whole new way to play and see the game, while staying true to its core. It’s not impissible to do with Pokémon but the Sadest part is that it looks like they didn’t even try. This looks like a rushed out Pokémon experience that will be simply be, okay. I’ll pick it up one day but not for 60$ :/

Then you probably will wait for a long time. Nintendo has their golden quality seal which is in short guarantees the quality of a game and its high price. I don't want to exactly get into it: you can search around the net. But this is a sort of a deal between them and their fans and clients: the games are pricey, but of high quality and in many cases I can agree with that, even if some people state this is bs or that the games are for kids... those are some of the most polished games you can get for this pricetag (around 60$) especially if you think about how games like Fallout 76 or Anthem costed the same at the beginning...
But yeah, Pokemon seems to be a letdown (but this is a Gamefreak game not Nintendo). Somehow I can't get myself to buy the game with how lazy it turned out to be while it could have been so much more. Ofc it is still solid fun, and I'm not even that interested in post-game content (National Dex etc), but there is just not enough for me to justify buying it for now: no fun story, no hard difficulty (Raid battles and Wild Area high level Pokes are not enough) and most of the new Pokemon designs are underwhelming (and starter evolutions are a joke).
EDIT: Haha, lol: https://www.ign.com/articles/2019/11/21/pokemon-sword-and-shield-is-now-the-fastest-selling-switch-game

I loved the game. It was such a fun ride. Completed it in three days.
Let me try to write a quick review
1. The game is well paced.
2. The story is a pokemon story - so nothing deep, but it does throw some blows at the current state of the world (climate change mostly)
3. The new gym and replacement of the elite 4 system is great. Half way through the game, I started feeling like I was actually doing something meaningful. Not just beating gym leaders, but trying to become something stronger. They did a new take on the elite 4 by not doing it, which was pleasent.
4. The new pokemon are mediocre or worse, but I fell in love with Sobbles evolutions as the game went on. I found a few new designs, I just love. The Pokedex is big enough for me to enjoy.
5. The wild area is .. something I have yet to enjoy fully.
6. Dynamax is worse than Megas and I would have loved to see megas return. Dynamax is just like Z-moves and megas combined. So it felt really boring. Story wise they explain it, I guess
7. The difficulty is of course easy
8. The region is great. Not the best by far, but better than most.
9. The characters were great. Your rival was.. human. I felt bad half way through, because I had beaten him so many times that he became somewhat depressed. The professor has a twist, which I enjoyed. The champ. felt important. The villain was.. no surprice, but evil enough to enjoy. The second rival was weird and felt a little pointless until the end. The villian team has a twist as well, which I.. didn't know to think about.. Think about Team Skull - They were not evil..
In total I enjoyed the game. I felt like it was a great Pokemon game. It felt more complete than Sun&Moon, which I found VERY half-finished.
I recommend it. It is well worth the 16-18 hours of gameplay.

Actually almost everything you wrote emil points makes me into thinking it's not actually that good.
Relatively short, bad Pokes design, easy, no meaningful opponents. Gyms/Elite 4 sound cool, but almost everybody says Dynamaxing is subpar to their previous ideas. And it's short, because 16-18 hours is not much for an RPG. I expected much more from this game... maybe I'll wait for Pokemon Gun...
Don't get me wrong, the game still sounds enjoyable. But I do have other games to play, and this one does not sound like it's a must-buy. Think I'll pass for now.

Let me be honest, Blob, I play pokemon for those 16-18 hours of feeling like a kid.
I buy the games out of habit. It is all about nostalgia

Ok, so they actually did try something new:
Pokemon direct 9.01.2019
Pokemon goes for the paid DLC model
But it all actually looks pretty cool, might grab that Pokemon Shield afterall...

DLC often is a bad idea. A money grab if you will.
I do feel like instead of a "soft" sequel or a remake, this is a more fun way to go and a good way to use the switch as a console to bring us more content.
It is a somewhat cheaper solution as well; that said people like me who would buy both sword and shield + expansion pass will still use quite a lot of money on this.
That being said, I wish they had just included more content in S&S.
And yes, I will buy it

I love Nintendo games, especially Mario Bros and The Legend of Zelda, my favorites are Mario Kart, Tears of the Kingdom and Breath of the Wild. I also enjoy playing Horizon, Crystal Fruits Deluxe, Fire'n Diamonds, and Midas Dynasty, which I play mainly because I follow DiceGirl Egle expert slot streamer. Anyway, while I save up to buy Super Mario Party Jamboree, I'll be playing Pokémon Go.
