It being effective against Dragon is a bit odd of you ask me,

I've heard that was done for gameplay reasons. (Too many pseudo- and actual Legendaries of the Dragon type, methinks. And no way to hit them except with more of the same, or the Ice type. Very limiting.)

So what are our thoughts about this or the two newly revealed pokemon?

I'm ambivalent on the butterfly (another Caterpie equivalent? Really? *sigh*) I wasn't keen on the bat-thing on the basis of it being another bat, but then I realized it wasn't a bat it was a wyvern and was much happier with it after that.

What about the other three?

I have read that reasoning for balancind Dragon, which I get. But it still don't make sense to me.

For those of you who read this and don't know, here are the five newly shown pokemon.

Vivillon is a Bug/Flying pokemon. It learns Strugglebug.
I agree with Kareeah that we didn't need another butterfly, but otherwise I'm fine with it. It don't look half bad.

Noivern is a Flying/Dragon pokemon. It has a signature move called Boomburst, though the move is Normal. I had similar feelings, I thought it was a bat at first, but still the most awesome bat yet. Then it was a Wyvern and I was kinda disapointed cause it's kinda scrawny.

Clauncher is a Water pokemon. I think it's awesome and can't wait to see what it evolves in. Finally something to use the Awesome Crabhammer. I think it's a Mantis Shrimp.

Skrelp is a Water/Poison pokemon. Seahorse, obviously. I sorta have the feeling that this is gonna be the new Tentacool, which is a good thing, cause I am so, so sick of Tentacool.

Lastly, there is Talonflame  who is Fire/Flying and possibly the evolution of Fletchling. I think he's awesome.

EDIT:
Aparantly the July Issue of CoroCoro revealed 4 more mons.

Shishiko is a Normal/Fire lion mon. Marginally interested in the evolutions myself.

Furabebe is a Fairy type. Meh

Kofukimushi and Cofurai are Vivillon's prevolutions and both are just Bug. Meh again.

I really like Skrelp's design. It's a pretty subtle dig at the Kelpies from Celtic Mythology (aka the Evil Water Horses that live amongst the kelp). Water/Poison seems like a pretty rare combo, too, which is cool (omg this reminds me: I want another Grass/Fighting pokémon)

Claunch is neither a mantis nor a crab though. It's a lobster. I'm surprised it's just pure water. I would have expected it to be part bug at least.

Speaking of which, why do they insist on making pure bug types? O__O Bug better be supereffective against Fairy or else there's no real reason for another Butterfly imo.

Clauncher is cute, the seahorse thing might be neat...Talonflame just sounds like a nickname IMO...the rest don't really do anything for me. :\

I like these Pokemón. I think the generations have been very weak, visually, since III but this one actually looks really good, so far. What I don't like about the newer generations is that they're often overdone or look like pure SCI-FI.

I didn't know they did that, since I never played BW2.
But I doubt it. They may well be saving that for new gens/itterations.

The new pokemon are looking good!

I really like the Kelpie idea because in my own RPG game i'm working on the kelpie is also pictured as a seahorse made from kelp, which can take the form of a green horse and seaweed nymph, so awesome choice!

A third butterfly is a bit much, but I like this butterfly pokemon more than butterfree, just as much as the evil Beautifly.

I really want a woodpecker pokemon and a peacock/flamingo one!
Of course more based on mythic creatures is a +

I'm really looking forward to Pokemon X and Y. I've just bought a 3DS and this will be my first Pokemon game since I got a Gameboy and Pokemon Red as a present when I was a kid (played a bit on emulators though ). You could say it's very symbolic for me, because what can be a better moment to buy a Pokemon game then in October 2013, after so many years and generations? For the first time it will be a fully 3D game (even battles! And with fully animated Poke's), and there will be so many new features (this could be the biggest overall jump yet: customizable avatar, new Pokemon type after so many years, flying battles, hoard battles, a group of friends instead of one rival, a completely new region that seems to be so much different from previous ones, a new way to increase your Pokemon happiness etc)... I can't wait!

My thoughts on new Poke's:

Firstly, I like to notice that there seems to be a lot of Fire Pokemons to choose from this time. Litleo or Fletchling's advanced forms (Fletchling seems to be the traditional early-catch bird type) are all Fire so it will be a bit hard to choose Fennekin as a starter (I like it the most from the lot, but I always try to get as varied type rooster as possible). And no too mention Talonflame looks badass, so it's a must have, at least in the first 20+ hours of the game (the type combo is very usefull: Fly+high atk Fire moves). I will probably take Chespin, because Froakie is the one I like the least from the three (it could change if he will have nice advanced evolution forms though), as Water type is always usefull while, at the same time, being sometimes hard to get (without the Rod)...

I will probably get the Y version as Yveltal is more to my liking then Xerneas...

I don't like the new Bug-type it's silly looking.

Helioptile could be a nice addition (it's Electric), but I must see his advanced form (if any) to make a choice...

Pancham is not to my liking, altough it could have some nice advanced forms (if any) as bear-like Pokemon are always badass, and this time we could get a fighting Panda (Pandaren anyone )...

I'm in love with Noivern, and it's a Dragon type to boot, so it's a must have for me. I wonder if he has other (lower) evolution forms or is it like Druddigon...

Gogoat is nice and usefull (for riding) so it could very well be an alternative for Grass type Chespin. I wonder how fast you can get one...

The flower one, Flabebe, is plain s*it (as are most of flower-like Pokemon, sorry Grass type lovers ), though it's Fairy type, not Grass (wonder why it's not double-type) so it could get handy...

I won't probably get Clauncher as I don't like crustacean Pokemon, but I would like to see his advanced form (I think that it will have one).

I don't like Skrelp, but it looks like he will have an advanced form so it could be interesting (Poison/Water is an interesting type).

The new Fairy type is interesting, but I must see if there will be any new Fairy type Pokemon (or maybe an old favorite will have a type change?) that will catch my interest. Sylveon is nice, but it's always hard to get your hands on an Eevee, so I guess it will be problematic to get one.

There is still one important question left: will Gyarados get a type change into Water/Dragon instead of Water/Flying(sic!) now, after the Dragon beating Fairy type was introduced? Charizard could also get a type change into Fire/Dragon as many players wished for...

On a side note I wonder if there will be a Pokemon Z game, it's hard to imagine a Pokemon that resembles the letter Z (it would look like a freak ). Maybe we will get Pokemon X and Y 2, because knowing GameFreak policy, it's a given that we will get such a game...

I just played through Emerald and they should really add difficulty levels to the game. It's sooooooooooooo easy. I tried clearing the Final Four with Rayquaza (<3) and won without any effort. Well, obviously using a Legendary pokemon is kind of a cheat (but it was super hard to navigate through the tower where Rayquaza lives - I had to cheat by slowing the game down). But even with using only the Water starter it was easy. It had an Ice attack though and many of the opponents are Dragon Pokémon.

Yeah they should add difficulty levels (maybe they will as Black 2 was first to introduce it). AI that uses "Leer" over and over again is just plain retarded. Hard difficulty would be nice in XY but definitely not in the form of Unova keys or what it's called. I know that Pokemon is about sharing with other players, but c'mon, I'll probably be the only person with a 3DS in my pack of friends, and I'm not willing to chase down some kid for a key . Sure, you can always restart the game with the unlocked difficulty, but I kinda become attached to my first play-through Pokemon

And yes, the game is too easy sometimes. The Elite Four in Pokemon Black 2 was laughable...

If I recall the strongest one was in Pokemon Platinum but I had badass Pokemon so it wasn't that hard

Checking Serebii, it looks like a lot of internet features (Dream World, some GTS stuff) is going away with the new Generation. *makes note to loot all Berries off Dream World and collect the remainder of the Dream World abilities ASAP*

Edit:

More new Pokemon information released! Version exclusives this time. I guess I should start deciding which version I'm going to get.

Unfortunately, Y is getting Skrelp, which I dislike. But maybe it's evolution will be okay. I'm getting Y because Yveltal is more to my liking, and it was revealed he gets a unique Death Wing attack, so now he is a must have From the two exclusive Fairy types the pink bird one is more snowty (Y again ), the choice is not too good though The panda evolution is nice, now I will really consider getting it for my team. The squid is kinda goofy, but not bad overall...

Yes!

On the new Pokemon, I like the little bird slightly more than the cotton-candy thing and I like Clauncher slightly better than Skrelp. None of them are can't-live-without Pokemon though. Honedge looks fun, and I'm tentatively looking forward to finding out more about the squid 'mons (Psychic/Dark? It's a Pokemon Ithilid. With Contrary! The big count against it is that double weakness to Bug, and that BECAUSE it has a double weakness it's likely to be a tanking Pokemon. :\ I like sweeping better.)

I wonder if you can get the "three big bear" combo in X & Y without trading? I would like to have Pangoro, Beartic and Ursaring in my team  (Dark/Fight, Ice and a Normal which can learn some nice moves like Shadow Claw or Rock Slide) And it was not long for fans to react:

So yeah, Mega-Evolutions.
I have to say, I like the looks of them so far. But, I dunno.
I'm definitely not opposed to it. I think it's great that GameFreak is trying to do something new with this gen and the franchise. But I'ma need more information before I give a yay or a nay. (I'm not much of a naysayer to begin with, so I doubt it's gonna be a nay)

As far as Embargo goes for the meta-game. I dunno either. If that will stop Mega-Evolution, it might become mandatory or very OP. But since I don't Meta-game, I doubt I'll care much.

Megaforms now has trailer.
