Well lets be honest here, there is little you can do with an effeminate Elven male, apart from prance, is there.

Order of the Stick deals with elves very well in my opinion.
Something I think could be cool to explore is their immortality, the other day smithey recommended me a move named something with "Benjamin", about a guy who is born old and gets younger and younger. Sadly I didn't like the movie, because they didn't really explore his unique status, in stead they just let everyone he met go "oh I guess that's how it is with you", and nothing more. Then they gave him Alzheimers disease as he'd aged his body to ~16, and that was freaking awful, because Alzheimers is not something you get when you're 16.. and in stead of becoming a fertilized egg as he should, he just closed his eyes when he was a baby, bah.
In the end it was more of a love story with a gimmick than about going from old to young, sadly.

Elrond is an effeminate Elven male and he's my favorite character in the whole damn trilogy.
If they dumped the CGI scenes where Legolas impersonates Shaun White on a snowboard, that alone would have aided his character a lot.

Elrond was half elven, so maybe that is why he wasn't as effeminate as the others. But then Hugo Weaving is also a much better actor than Orlando Bloom.

Thranduil is an effeminate Elven male and he's badass also. Lady Galadriel is an effeminate Elven male, and he's pretty cool too.
In fact, the only homo elf is Legolas.

Honestly, watching Legolas skate down Uruk-hais as a kid is one of the best moments of my life, so you guys can hate all you want but Legolas will always be the best. Well, second-best, behind Boromir, because who doesn't like Boromir?

Dude, you try to come up with witty things to say after journeying for across Middle Earth, fighting a horde of orcs and having none of the pop culture knowledge you have right now.

See, you can barely tell the difference between Haldir and Legolas. They're like twins. But in the movie? One of them has CGI scenes and the other one doesn't.

i would have said, "kill everyone and everything! we'll show these pansy-ass orcs, uruk-hai, and what-have-you, how to be ****ing evil! yaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!"
then i would've climbed a mountain to watch the fight, and have salted pork and beer, with my pal gimli.
and, nobody beats gimli. i love how he fell in love with galadriel, in the uncut version. very touching.

Stevie said: Just saw Hobbit 2 - Desolation of Smaug, was better than Hobbit 1 imo. I expected more of the dragon though, they dumbed him down to the level that a fight with a bunch of gnomes and hobbit was actually a challenge to him, which in the end he actually managed to lose too... Incomparable to LotR though, that's so much more intense + the battles were huge and epic, with nazgul riders and oliphant riders, not barrel riders Still, was a great movie, can't wait for the next one.
No offense, but asking for a big battle in this movie is stupid lol.
LotR had 2 huge battles in 6 books, the Hobbit has 1 in 1 book.

I would have preferred more content and less action. 10 minutes of Legolas and We-need-a-female-in-the-movie twirling around with their elf blades killing orcs made me yawn. The scene with Smaug started out awesome but it started to drag also. Less would have been more.
This is a great example of good action in LotR, because it invokes suspense. You see those giant oliphaunts charging forward and King Theoden is like "**** MY LIFE! REFORM THE LINE!" and you're sitting there pissing your pants. You don't really get that in the video game-esque fighting scenes; they're sort of a filler and you're never at any point actually concerned with the characters.
You don't necessarily need magnitude like with the Fields of Pelennor scene. You just need to be invested in the characters.
I have to really agree here. It was good pop corn fun but the movie didn't need to spend so much time there. But how else would you stretch a small book into a trilogy? I am enjoying it so far but to be fair, 2 movies would have sufficed if Jackson so wanted.
I used to like Legolas but seeing the surfboard scene and later the oliphant overkill annoyed me, it was plain ridiculous. Elrond and Thranduil were awesome!
