Exactly Elvin. It was a massive mistake to kill off Darth Maul. It was a huge waste of what could have been a great bad guy and little me made sure the entire cinema and anyone within a 5 mile radius heard it

i walked out of the transformers movie. 3 hollywood faux pas strikes, and i'm gone. was even angry that i paid to see it. i would've demanded a refund, but i felt like breaking someone's face. so i didn't. i just left, got in my car, and drove it back to my cave, where i should've stayed, in order to avoid THAT abortion of "a tale of robots from outer space, but really just about a human relationship, and marketing vehicles, and fawning helplessly over beautiful women". sheer ****. there was a lot of good in that movie, and they ruined it for me, with bull**** targeted at stupid kids, who never even knew wtf a transformer WAS.
it ended up being a commercial embracing the stupidity of people's dependence on marketing.

I've just seen The Monuments Men and it was... well, it was ok. JJ, do you have any idea why the Nazis started burning the classical art near the end of the war? I mean I get why they burned modern art, it was degenerate to them. But isnt "if I cant keep this Raphael, so cant you" too much of a teenage reaction to be executed by a state? What was the logic behind it?

They steal the art while winning, that's routine. They hide it in mines and start burning it when they understand they'll lose the war. This is not medieval vandalism or destroying a city while you're retreating so that the advancing enemy can not have resources and shelter. It's not religious like Taliban blowing up the Buddha statues. They are burning centuries old paintings which have absolutely no strategical importance in warfare and which they, themselves also value as the cultural heritage of their own civilization.

i agree, it is entirely senseless. but it's just something that comes with a dominating force: the destruction of the culture being dominated. with the nazi's, i think their views were based on eradicating "impurities".
you'll see similar behavior in the natural world. it's about dominance.

No, what the fascist regime valued was the ability to dote on the hints of what the will of the Fuhrer was, most of them right to the end. Ff his whim demanded that paintings be burned, then they were. It wasn't just paintings that Hitler wanted destroyed, hell he even ordered a "Nero Decree" (according to Speer) a scorched earth policy to be implemented immediately, and to cause catastrophic damage to German infrastructure and economy, all for strategic 'purposes'.

Well, you got a point there. Fuhrer ordered it and that was that. And thinking how the Goebbels killed their own children just to "save them" from a world without Fuhrer and the Nazi ideal, it does fit a pattern of taking down everything with you. Still, a lot of the Nazi officials highly valued classical art and it just seems too senseless a thing to do.

lol. i guess they burned nazi stuff? never saw the movie. yeah, that's just about following orders, based on an ideal.
that's powerful, when you think about it. the nazi's must've had the will of ants. too bad they had racial issues. a will like that could've really come in handy. i can guess that the world views anything relating to the nazi's, as a bad thing. what a shame. if the rest of the human race had that kind of drive, imagine what it could accomplish.
all we'd have to do, is get around the hatred, selfishness, and ego's. that's not going to happen anytime soon.

Rewatched Pitch Black. Such a good movie.
They should make it a rule to starve a Sci Fi production & directing crew of the appropriate resources to make a good movie. They seem to turn out far more awesome. I watched the commentary, and the first Pitch Black had all sorts of issues. Then when they made the sequel (and the 3rd movie) they had everything they needed.

the latest Riddick movie felt a lot like Pitch Black.
same pattern. we have a group of mercs trying to get Riddick, we have some fierce predators who only emerge at certain conditions. and so on.
should've called it Pitch Black 2, wouldn't make any difference.

I just watched the new Jack Ryan movie, it started out giving me the impression and hope, that it's going to be a level-headed, classy spy film, similar to Jason Bourne movies but maybe with the addition of just a little bit blatant patriotism which can be ignored. But no, the most common of Hollywood mistakes prevailed again; they went over the top. Our young Jack Ryan who was hired as a finance analyst and who had spent only "two weeks in the farm for basic training" suddenly transformed into the compound of James Bond, Sherlock Holmes and a first-class computer guy. Of course, he did not only save the world, he also saved the girl, his girl which the bad guys abducted in the middle of their international evil plan.
Still watchable, if you don't take it seriously.
