Yup, awesome isn't it?

Dunno if there are any unicorns in Sapkowski's world, though if there was one in The Witcher it would probably have rabies and must be killed by our hero... for money of course. And then we'd make an awesome sword-hilt out of its horn.

Unicorns are a sentient race that battle the Aen Elle (Elves of the other dimension).

In the books the protagonist (Ciri) befriends a unicorn that teaches her to move between dimensions.

oh, and the Aen Elle are in fact the Wild Hunt.

Not really. The game is set after the books, so if you played the game, it's assumed you know what happened in the Witcher world.

Wild Hunt being Aen Elle is revealed in book 5 (Lady of the lake).

Oh.

Well I haven't read the books and the whole Aen Elle thingy was kind of an exciting revelation for me.

Geralt losing his memory is an awesome way for people who aren't all too familiar with the books to learn of past events ya know.

Great news people!

From The Witcher Nexus:

"CDProjekt held their live conference stream today. At it's peak there were around 13,500 people watching the stream live so it was quite laggy but I could get most of the details.

We were promised a big announcement; sadly for PC players there wasn't much to get excited about. I took down a few bulleted notes.

   * 400,000 TW2 sales in 1 week
My notes: whether this is total sales or retail+GoG sales but not Steam+D2D sales is unknown. This figure is very good for a PC only exclusive made in central Europe
   * CDProjekt were very happy with the reviews that they have received from the critics
   * A new patch, version 1.2 is coming out tomorrow (June 3rd), continuing their "philosophy to work on the game even after it's been released", made famous by their free Enhanced Edition release of TW1
   * Version 1.2 will include balance tweaks, a key mapping fix, target locking in combat fixes (so targets at range are no longer lost), TW1 save game importing fixes and the container exploit will be patched out.
My notes: They were keen to express these aren't all the changes in version 1.2, but I'm guessing those are the biggest and there's no mention of a fix for 16:10 aspect ratio as far as I know
   * All previously released DLCs will be included in v1.2 so all versions of the game will be equal
   * Version 1.2 will also have a new DLC called "Barbers and Coiffeuses" that will allow you to change Geralt's hairstyles. There will be five in total.
My notes: I can't really get excited about this and can only think they're trying to compete with Bethesda's "Horse Armour" DLC; at least this one will be free!
   * CDProjekt have a special promotion on for people who haven't bought the game yet in the US; $10 off at Amazon, GameStop or Steam
   * CDProjekt's big announcement, as probably expected, is that The Witcher 2 will be coming to the XBox 360 at the end of this year.
My notes: at this point there was a noticeable drop in people viewing the stream, I myself felt slightly disappointed, but I'm sure it'll be nice for some

Still no word on when the forums will be back up, on the possibility of an SDK for The Witcher 2 and no 16:10 aspect ratio tweak. However I have confidence that the people who released 900mb or so of new content for TW1 in the Enhanced Edition haven't completely gone to the dark side yet. Chin up, I think there's more to come. - DarkOne"

New hairstyles! Might be cool

Patch 1.2 is out, just installed it. Hope I won't have to re-install the game a few times to get it working properly. Otherwise - it seems to be quite an improvement overall AND we can finally delete the saves in-game. Now if they only add an option for overwriting...

Nice to see them improving the game this substantially in such short time... beats waiting for an Enhanced Edition ^^

I want bigger DLC though... new areas and stuff. Small missions don't really do it for me unless they're released as a pack so I can get that "wow" feel... not just "wo-oh it's over"

Impossible. Mostly because of voice-overs. CDP probably won't go through re-hiring all the actors for ALL the language versions to release something for free.

If they ever do something like that, it will either be a real expansion pack, or a typical let's-milk-the-customers-and-offer-them-30-mins-for-10-bucks-DLC.

Finished the game today. Now I can say that it's almost a masterpiece. Was it not for the technical problems (one crash was so bad that even Windows didn't start after that, had to switch the PC off and on a few times), the rushed Act 3 and a few minor storytelling weaknesses, I'd certainly call it a masterpiece. But even with these things in mind, it's definitely one of the best games I've ever played. I'll give it a short break and replay it, this time following "Iorverth's path".

This is my NEGATIVE views on the game, I have plenty of positive ones too but since everybody is praising the game so much, I figured out that it would be more interesting if I did not do that.

---------------------------*---------------------------------

Ok, the Witcher 2 gives me enormous headaches.

One part of me says that it might be like the best RPG ever.

But the other side of me says that it is probably one of the worst and most terribly designed games ever.

There is just TO MUCH STUFF. And it gets EXTREMLY tedious and annoying.

I just can't play it, its that tedious. I got to the Kayran and sometimes I play a bit then I just quit.

My main issues with the game:

1. Normal difficulty is like Insanity in most games.

2. This connects strongly the first - IT IS NOT NEWBIE FRIENDLY AT ALL - there is SO MUCH STUFF and yet they never bother to explain any of it which gives me the feeling that I am completl lost in the game. It is an enormous flaw that a game that is so complicated, tedious and non-linear, pretty much has no real tutorials or anything like that.

3. Its not convenient AT ALL. Its worse than the questing in the original WoW which had you run between the continents five times a row. There are tons of quests that are spread out all over the place and there is no way to fast teleport everywhere.
It feels like you spend the majority of the game running around like a fool and getting killed a lot ofc.

4. I DON'T CARE ABOUT WALLS OF DIALOGUE AND TEXT. I am sure that the readers of the books are extremly happy about it but I just don't care about that there's tons of lengthy text and dialogue in the game that I do not understand since I never got properly introduced to the setting.
I really do not care about what the elf Cedrik says. BLA BLA BLA BLA GET TO THE POINT PLEASE.

5. The pace of the game is horrible because you have to PAUSE THE GAME ALL THE TIME IN ORDER TO ACCESS MENUS AND STUFF. And I have not even found all the menus because you need keybindings to access some of them and the game NEVER said anything about that .
But yeah, you have to pause the game all the time to change your spells and stuff. I HATE that I must PAUSE IN COMBAT in order to change a SINGLE SPELL.

6. HORRIBEL LOOTING SYSTEM. There are tons of stuff that just looks like trash to me and it annoys me greatly that you have to run around and loot corpses and you get trash like "Broken Ladder" all the time. It is extremly annoying and tedious.

7. The alchemy and herb system is horrible. RUNNING AROUND LOOKING FOR HERBS IS NOT FUN.
HAVING TO DRINK POTIONS WITH PASSIVE EFFECTS IS NOT FUN.
What is the point of the Potion system? I do not understand what fun it adds to the game. It onl makes it even more tedious that you have to make potions with a hundred weird herbs that I CBA to pick up.

8. I HATE that you many times there are invisible walls located in very annoying places. I want to make tiny little short cut and then it feels like there is a little freaking flower that has erected some massive force field that prevents me from taking that tiny little potential short cut.

9. Why is Triss walking like a prostitute? I have never seen any girl walk that and it looks ridiculous and just sexist.

Conclusion: I often complain about that games these das are to streamlined and easy. Well, this is waaaaay to EXTREME. I feel that the majority of this game is composed of unnescesary, inconvenient, annoying and tedious stuff.
Herbs = Tedious.
Normal is insane = Tedious.
Potions = Tediou.
Huge walls of text and dialogue = Tedious.
Lack of hints and tutorials = Tedious.
Walking back and forth 90% of the game's duration = Tedious.
Switching spells = Tedious.
Having to pause and meditate 24/7 = Tedious.

This is the most tedious game ever.
I think you can compare the game to the norwegian extremist, its that bad and yet there is still signs of intelligence and stuff (which is how I feel about him)

Keep in mind that these are all the negative things I have to say about the games, there is plenty of positive things too.
I would give it 3 out of 5.

I think I will stick to getting my second character, an Adept who owned the first Mass Effect with Singularit, and get her through Mass Effect 2.

Yes, I am gonna get flamed for this and go on.

But you can't disagree with that this game is much more tedious than any other MODERN game...

1. No actually it's too easy imo. There's a learning curve yes, but once you're over it the game is a walk in the park.

2. That may very well be. The first game was a better introduction to the world.

3. I enjoyed the scenery so much that I didn't mind running around ^^

4. Dialogues weren't as interesting as in the first game... there's still nothing that tops "Imma kill everything that moves and can't climb a tree" and the philosophic discussions with Yaevinn. Still... quite superior to most games out there.

5. Menu system was inconvenient yes, it could've been streamlined a lot better.

6. Indeed. There was very little loot that actually mattered.

7. I liked the alchemy system, though it was totally unbalanced. Never any shortage of herbs and bombs were madly rigged. I also miss the experimental feeling from the first game in trying to get the right combination for bonuses...

8. Never bothered me

9. Any "THAT'S SEXIST!" remarks against the Witcher world is doomed to fail from the start haha... Triss is hawt and she knows it. You apparently noticed her ass wiggling which means she succeeded.

I kind of like the sexist things and curse words and stuff though. It is refreshing and it feels nice that it isn't so americanized. But that also has its disadvantages *they made the game incredibly tedious and annoying.

And Triss did one good thing - she was a perfect tank in the battle against those Drowners during the Kayran questline. Though she almost incinerated me.

I do not think the enviroment is beautiful. It is dark, depressing and there are ENORMOUS SCARY INSECTOID creatures lurking in the forest. :/

I think you should watch the "Lewis plays The Witcher 2" videos on YouTube. They are very funny and I am just as lost as him when I am playing the game.

Well, I do not think I will be able to get through the game because it seems huge with all the quests and running around. I want the Normandy to come and fly me to all the quests and towns instead.

The only really tedious thing for me was the combat system and particularly the targeting - you could get killed simply because Geralt attacks the wrong cutthroat/monster. It's not a great pain anyway, especially when you gain a few levels. Advise - invest in Parry and Quen if you have survivability problems.
On the other hand anything said against the dialogue and the story of The Witcher is sacrilege on its own right. While Geralt is not a great source of memorable quotes this time, the other characters more than compensate for him. As for the characters on the other hand - you simply won't find better in any other game from the last decade. I don't like how the turned Zoltan into a pessimistic whiner but the others are from excellent above.

Lol nice review Xerox, I laughed a bit keep it up.

However I disagree the game is hard. It's extremely easy. Just do this:

1. put two levels in "footwork" skill asap
2. strike one or twice
3. immediately hit down/left/right button twice to roll away and hence avoid danger
4. repeat until everything is dead

I don't think I ever lose a hit point when doing this.

Oh my sexist Gerhalt, I never thought that you would give me a QP. xD

But I did try and play a bit again yesterday.

I am at Flotsam, and I have to find the Ostmurk thing.

So I actually discovered the Journal menu or whatever its called - which can ONLY be accessed by clicking on "J" which means that I had no idea that I had a journal before watching some YouTube videos about the game.

So I actually started to try to make some progress in the game. I thought about getting a new weapon, such as an actual new silver sword since I recalled that you are supposed to use silver swords versus monsters.

So I went to the non-human district in Flotsam, found a nice "dwarven axe" that was like twice as good as my old steel sword. And I bought a Silver sword from the Blacksmith there. I also did some quests (there are a lot of quests actually) and reached level 7.

And then I went out into the forest to try to find the Ostmurk and maybe do the Endrega and Nekker contract quests on the way.
So I equipped my Silver sword and casted Quen - and suddenly the Endregas were really easy. They died in like 3 hits, before they owned me. So I found an endrega lair and decided to try to kill one of their Queens for the quest.
The Queen soon appeared and I charged in with Quen.

I died horribly.

But I thought that it was ok, a challenge is nice and I will try a different strategy next time.

But that's when I realized that the auto save in this game is terrible.

And then I quit the game because I couldnt bother going back to the forest and kill all the endregas AGAIN.

I still think that the herb/alchemy system is ridiculous. It is so annoying to click on Z all the time to find herbs, and then the spell lasts like 5 seconds so you have to refresh it all the time...
