Yeah but they were bound to fix it by the time tote came out I was talking about focus and there was none to be had where short term was concerned. Seemed more of an afterthought.

To reinforce the pattern theory introduced by Zenofex above, I would like to also point out a certain macro-pattern that seems to be creeping into modern game design.
I encourage everyone to read the following article:
http://gamerant.com/skyrim-dragon-age-2-mass-effect-3-rpgs-dying-dyce-68478/
Headline:
With the biggest RPG franchises getting more and more ‘streamlined’ and user-friendly, we have to wonder – does the genre have any hope of surviving?
And although the thesis of the above article might be an exaggerated one, I must admit that I cannot help but think about town windows every time I read the words "RPG", "streamlined" and "user-friendly" next to each other.
Interesting article this, thanks Soilburn, but I feel that the 2D town windows change is not due to what this article says.
I feel the following is what is affected by the article above:
- The Area of control points (controlling surrounding mines) and not sure if I like that....but the 2D Town windows....that's okay, a shame, but okay...does feel colder, but hey:
What do we like about Heroes:
- turn based (at your own pace)
- building up hero
- building up town
- winning battles with minimal losses

Alright! Beta opens at 20 April!
Too bad I don't have a key...
Edit: I wonder how much can be done about the town screens before that. At least then we'll see how they'll look like, but it will probably be too late.

I find it amusing that people are more concerned by the lack of 2D/3D/full screen town screens than by the removal of 3 rare resources.
People have been fuelling non-stop QQ's about a totally unimportant feature that has ZERO impact on gameplay when many fundamental gameplay elements have been altered/removed/(over)simplified. I guess Ubisoft could sell a Heroes 7 with 2 factions, 4 creatures, 2 heroes and 2 spells as long as they provide gorgeous 3D town screens
There are so many reasons to be angry/worried/not confident about the path Heroes 6 is taking that crying about town screens is just irrelevant.
PS: And I'm not crying about the loss of the rare resources, but I'm still expecting more infos on this topic rather than trusting someone who tells me to simply believe his words.

I would be more worried about the Area Of Control feature....which seems to be geared to multiplayer steamined for over 100 people to play on one map! I never really had an issue with someone taking a far distant mine....late in the game who cares!

Maybe Town Screens have nothing to do with gameplay but they're imo more part of HOMM than sulfur, quecksilver and gems.
But I also wanna know more about the new resources systems or about game mechanics as whole; but ubihole is just giving us screenshots and some little storys about creatures so we can just talk about the visual side of the game.

3 weeks until beta! So the beta is on April 20th. Maybe they wanted everyone to be high on the first day.
I'm excited for most of the changes. I can see the logic in many of them, and I hope they reduce the need for errand heroes for the most part. Some things may not stick, but some things may become staples in the series.

Well, that's easy - there is no chance to bring back the three lost resources but there is still a tiny, almost theoretical but still existent hope to make the town windows at least bearable. And by the way there was enough ranting about the resources several months ago.
As for the rest - we just need more data. Some thing could prove to be for the better or for the worse but this requires info and testing, both of which are inaccessible to us yet. I for one am pretty curious regarding certain area of control issues but what do you know - they ain't telling us anything.

What worries me more about the; less city builder statement, is not so much the kind of city screen, but that they might have done it even easier now to build up your city super fast. Fewer buildings and easier to get the ressources needed.
Another consern is the Zone of controll system of mines, dwellings towns etc, combined with heavy town portal. These are things that goes in the direction of needing only one super hero. I'd like to se a development where you need to use and train more heroes. What is wrong with having to protect yourself from raids on your economy? It's a strategy game too, for christs sake. And you know what; raiding is fun in multiplayer too, perhaps the most fun there.
The third thing that worries me is the reset function for level 20 heroes. For me good strategy games are about taking both long term and short term choices that you will have to live with for the whole game.

Nope, building and upgrading everything is far from easy. If anything I doubt we'll be getting castle + capitol + tier 7 by end of week 2 like we were used to.

That was very comforting to hear. I want it harder to develop cities, not easier. I hope it's really costy to convert towns too. Having just one race also contributes to 1 super hero gameplay.

I've been playing Homm4 recently (for the first time), and one of the things I like is that the town can take quite awhile to build up. In homm3 some of the castles were too easy to get the T7 creature, and in homm5 I'd generally rate all towns a bit too quick.
