Today's news are... Michael pictures? Again? Nothing about the sanctuary page? Seriously?
Wow, nice way to kill the mood of someone that already had one test today and will have another in 2 hours

I officialy hate Michael. I will replay the level where you kill him over and over. I will buy all Michael's merchandise and burn it all. I'll kill everyone that has the name Michael (thank God my name has one diferent letter).

i'm bored at work so i decided to...

share with u some thoughts on the M&M factions. maybe something to start discussing till we get some proper news, instead of this loathsome michael guy's anatomy details.

so...

1. Haven- wouldn't change a thing, though i am concerned about the glory... hope the light elemental will look completely different from her. never liked the haven faction in previous HOMM, but maybe H6 will encourage me to play with this, my least favorite, faction.

2. Inferno- awesome line up, absolutely the magic hero design! i do wonder how the octupusy thingy called "breeder" will preform in battles... will she spew imps all over the place? that'll be hilarious...

3. Necropolis- my all time favorite faction. liked the egyptian-mesopotamian theme. the only faction i can honestly say i can't find anything wrong with, but i may be biased...

4. Stronghold- me don't like orcs... orcs to be very boring are... i'd definitely kick the panther warrior out and put a non-ork creature, maybe a behemoth*, something wild and angry but not orcish.

5. Sanctuary- change the appearience of the snow maiden and the spring spirit, and god help us all if the water elemental will look like the spring spirit...
then we will have water in it's 3 states of matter: water elemental-vapors, spirit- liquid water, maiden- ice...

6. Academy- the wizards are a central part in the development of the ashan storyline. hope to see them back in the game with a whole new line up. the must-have units are of course titans and mages, all the rest can be derived from indian and iranian-persian myths. oh, and bdw, THE INSPIRATION FOR THE ACADEMY FACTION IS FIRST AND FOREMOST IRANIAN-INDIAN AND NOT ARAB!

7. Sylvan- one of my favorite factions coz of the nature-celtic theme. i'd like to see NO MORE THAN 3 ELVISH UNITS and all the rest can be forest-celtic myth creatures like dryads, unicorns and what not.

8. Dungeon- my second favorite after Necropolis. the new line up must be based upon the faceless-dark elves alliance and must show us at least one creature related to the faceless or a down right faceless (maybe as champ unit?). HERE TOO, NO MORE THAN 3 ELVISH CREATURES!

9. Dwarfs/Fortress (H5)- dunno why ppl dislike them cute little hairy creatures! the H6 fortress should have a strong scandinavian theme and same principle here- NO MORE THAN 3 DWARF CREATURES! must have a valkyrie and an einherjer. the champ unit should be a fire giant, a nice manifestation of the 2 basic principles of the dwarf faction- relation to Arkath and scandinavian theme.

10. well, how about a sylath faction? such a faction can include rocs, nomads, merceneries, a preist/mage unit related with a flying creature like a falcon purhaps, a cavalry unit named "wind rider" or "storm rider"... just some ideas...
at least 3 flying units, high mobilty, strong ranged attack, weak melee capability, low defense.


*funny the word "behemoth" in hebrew  simply means -a domesticated beast with 4 hooves & horns or a hippo...

Just a short note about the town screem

For me it looks like the 5 icones at the left lower corner direct the palyer to different parts of the town

The hammer is for buildings
The sack of gold for recruitmen
The Pint for Tavern
The Stand for market

The first one, the castel, could stand for overal image of the town. At least I hope so.

You can merely be deducting that the elites might be on level 2, but you can't say they are for sure.


Yes, can't say that for sure, and might not even be final town window...but look at the town window and see the following:

- the first three units, the core units, are on level 1 amongst other buildings
- the Core 1 dwelling has two ticks for upgraded shooters
- where would you put the elites and champion? on different levels as there is no space for them on level 1

I assume:

- You can recruit each and every tier in your town
- External dwellings give you a choice of what to recruit but only one in each group (core, elite, champion)

NB! Just my assumptions
Elvin mentioned was pre-aplha but the screens do look very polished and seem final.....

Checking Lepastur's update, a good read - thanks for that mate!

Found some inconsistencies though, hard to tell whether it was a matter of bug or a false first impression. Either way I know that the following things are off.

following the pattern of Heroes III, but with an occasional novelty, like the possibility of moving a little shooters if they are blocked and then they can shoot, pretty same as in King's Bounty.

Blocked units cannot shoot, this has not changed in H6.

each unit have several special attacks (like Pokemons). Yes, you read correctly, several specialities.

That is quite a stretch as abilities normally range from 1-3 with only one activated and the rest passive. Unless you count attributes such as living, spirit, allegiance to Asha and so on.

In short, a whole panoply of skills which I suppose we will end up dominating with practice, but which they precisely does not fit with some dogmas of the creative direction of the game, just like the simplification one, which led to the absurd reduction of precious resources. I guess the point of making the game more simple and so making it faster is only a straw they can clutch at when it¢s convenient.

Again a stretch. It is not a matter of the game being dumbed down but instead a shift in its features's focus - some were improved, others simplified for the sake of a smoother gameplay. Whether that is good or not is largely subjective though it's safe to say that the resource reduction wasn't the most popular of choices.

I say this because I didn¢t understand clearly its performance and especially its relation with the hero¢s standard action (attack or spell  in short), which I found that sometimes was working apart.

Since this sounds confusing I will elaborate. Lepas wasn't sure whether a hero can activate his racial and make an attack / cast a spell / use an ability within the same turn. He can.

excepting Campaigns, the hero level may not exceed 20 or 25. This represents 25 points of skill which we¢ll have to invest in skills and spells. Indeed, and in case anyone had not noticed, the lack of Mage Guilds has made spells to become a part of the hero development. Therefore, the maximum number of active elements the hero may use is, as I said, quite limited, especially considering that the odds about some of those Skill points will be invested in passive skills, which do not require any activation by the player.

That's not quite necessary but obviously we will have to find the fine line between number of spells and the rest of the skills. To be fair though in H5 you often knew a lot more spells than you'd ever need to use in battle, mostly because battles were fast paced and few hero classes could work effectively with more than one schools of magic. My reasoning is that the longer a battle, the more spells you are likely to need. And since you can choose spells from 5 magic schools you should have more freedom than limitation.

The problem was mainly that whenever I visited the panel of skills, each skill was undermarked with a sign “-“ (minus, to any rational mind), and worst of all it was painted in red, as if it was saying "NOT AVAILABLE".

We later learnt that was a bug


Worth noting that there is no longer a tactics phase so you're gonna have to pick tactics if you want to start with your shooters neatly surrounded by 3 meatshield stacks in the corner.

Showing a unit's mood I also consider highly important. Makes the game more reasonable, more predictable, fairer.

Subjective indeed, I for one think it will offer more thinking. but we will have to see.
(Hmm why does it feel like I have joined vitorsly's and War-overlord's club for positive H6 fanatics?)

What? That was one of the awesomenesses (that's actually a word) of H5. I have a feeling this will cause a lot more quicksave-loading with a lot of people, just like in H3 (in single player).

maybe some skills will give several spells?

or maybe it could work that way : you learn master of fire (from H5) and you get fireball, then you learn set a fire, and it grants you firewall too.

Yes, only one per level. I can already imagine having headache picking skills/spells when leveling up in H6.

Yeah, this is a total buzz kill for me. It is true that in previous games, you might rely in most cases on a certain and rather limited set of spells in most combats, but what made the game interesting was that you could have a very wide range of options at your disposal, so that when doing extreme fights, you could pull a rabbit out of the hat and win. Epic examples are fights like the popular H5 "cerberus vs. Arch Devils" and I'm sure most of us have pulled similar tricks.

If you only have 20 or 25 points available in toto for skills AND spells AND passive abilities, you are very much going to be if not a one trick dog, then at least a very limited number of trick dogs. Like going through a whole game as Warlock and the only thing you ever do is blast people with Fireball. Not that fun in the long run.

Man, here's an example of a creature that looks 5000x better in-game than on the artwork.

I was almost convinced that the Celestial would look pretty lame in-game, but lo and behold the awesomeness!

EDIT: Still... one sword is better than two imo.

i think they look awesome, and very detailed!
maybe after five HoMM games i will finally enjoy playing them.. (as i never liked Haven faction before)

What's the point of knowing in advance whether a stack will join you or not ? If a stack is stronger than my army, it's MY choice to decide whether I try my luck and hope they'll join me or simply get slaughtered because of my foolishness
