That's Disney's fault really. And yours for never having looked into the subject, you are just stuck with the little mermaid in your mind Watch the new pirates of the Caribbean and tell me if you feel about mermaids the same again
PS seriously go watch it, one hell of a movie ^^

Really like the making of video, smooth presentation.

1) First off all that guy that keeps on screaming siren's are birds should shut up because they aren't birds, maybe in their early roots but early roots can be broken, look at the modern Minotaur, and why all those foolish people keep on screaming that I can't use a Siren for Harpy upgrade then?

The Sirens were always birds, they get confused mermaids because both sing and are marine creatures. Regarding to the harpies, they are two different creatures. The mermaids were supused to be sexy evil but the harpies were like horrible hag evil (the furies were diferent creatures too but they were in the horrible hag category too, though the looked more like the gorgons(true medusa), its kinda like the situation of the Coral Naga/Medusa. I dont get what you say about minotaurs, they look pretty much the same as in old greek ceramics, they had human legs in those but its kinda a minor difference. The only oter difference is that the Minotaur was a individual in greek myth, not a race, unlike the Medusa who was a member of the gorgons race

Also from wikipedia:

Quote:
The Sirens of Greek mythology are sometimes portrayed in later folklore as fully aquatic and mermaid-like; the fact that in Spanish, French, Italian, Polish, Romanian and Portuguese the word for mermaid is respectively Sirena, Sirène, Sirena, Syrena, Sirenă and Sereia, and that in biology the Sirenia comprise an order of fully aquatic mammals that includes the dugong and manatee, add to the visual confusion, so that Sirens are even represented as mermaids. However, "the sirens, though they sing to mariners, are not sea-maidens," Harrison had cautioned; "they dwell on an island in a flowery meadow."[5]

So there are multiple versions of the myth, and just because one is later doesn't make it any less a myth.

I don't care if it was the first incarnation of the myth, I know the first incarnation of the myth, the point is, it's a good name for an otherwise weak sounding creature with weak associations.
Nobody reads/hears "Mermaid" and thinks "oh blast, I'm in trouble", no they are likely to burst out laughing (exagerating a bit here, but the point still stands) so the name Siren is more then a mythological "inaccuracy", it's a mythological "inaccuracy" that promotes player associative interpretation of the creature as something dangerous.

The new video on making of music, etc. is cool and lengthy.

Notice how the days indicator on the bottom right has changed to a more curvy look, not sure if I like this, might be difficult to see if you're on day 6 or 7!

Yes mermaid is fine. Little mermaid would suck.

Just some food for thought on the reputation abilities:

NECRO: Mark of the necromancer – blood magic efficiency on enemy is increased. What is blood magic? Something with necromancy? Primordial Magic for necromancers?

ORC: Mother Earth’s blessing – Seems a little too powerful esp. for orcs

NAGA: Calm before the storm / Prepare for Strike – so movement stat is unimportant here, cos we don’t want to move troops at all?

DEMON: Abyss gate – if targeted stack goes to Sheogh and gateway is destroyed before he comes back, and then battle is won by enemy, what happens to this targeted stack? Disappear?

Something else, it seems for demon lord, that gating abilities are better with tears approach….

After watching the last video I must point out one of my concerns.. the On map building designe.

As the enviroment looks stoneshing and unites well detailed. The map object do look wierd.. For one I did never understand the designe of the Stables. But more.. some of the buildings look to "Block like" nad som way stand out of the map designe like if they do not belong their. In fact, I had this feeling whit most of the map objects.. Haven and necroplis town particulary

The enemy can't win the battle without destroying all stacks, so unless they destroy the gate within that turn, they'll have to wait for it to come back.

I'm just stuck with this For Whom The Bell Tolls ability and is surprised noone mentions it as it is clearly insanely overpowered and nonsense really. It is the only ability I don't like on that Reputation page.

Death Knight:

"Ultimate Ability: For Whom the Bell Tolls
Target Core or Elite stack will be destroyed within a few turns, unless the battle is won first."

Disappear makes sense. You reach zero troops at some point so u lose, I guess . Unless it works in a 'griffin way' ,in which case you wait for it come back (like u did with a skydiving griffin at the end of a fight).

Dunno makes sense to me as a ultimate. Less usefull vs neutrals , kinda strong vs a hero but then again it s a ultimate ability...at this point most abilities might be kinda strong.I mean look at armageddon or the pilar of fire that moves , imo those looks nasty enough to have total damages dealt close to 'one stack's hp'...except we don t really have the damage calculation formula yet.

I also think it is kinda overpowered, especially since this ability will most likely only be avaliable in the late game, where the armies are bigger.I think the ability would be better,if it could only target core creatures or if it would take quite long to activate(or both)

But what if they destroy the gate within that turn? The stack won't come back then (as it says will then only come back after combat) but if demon hero has no more troops (on the battlefield) then what?

Remember that we have no numbers yet.

The "For Whom the Bell Tolls" ability might take 10 turns to work and it might also a recharge timer of 10 turns (meaning that it can be used once every 10 turns) while an ability like Armageddon might be reused every 4 or 5 turns.

Also them being ultimate abilities that will most likely require a level 30 hero, I'm not sure it's something we'll be seeing a lot in MP. That's what the beta is made for

Stack not destroyed = battle not over.

I agree. The Inferno and Sanctuary towns have a ton of detail. The Haven town looks like something my nieces would build with wood blocks. The Necro town also looks block-y, but I don't mind it as much.

When you reach level 30 you'll have to fight throng Champion-like creatures to get your army barely scratched and also there are almost none left on the map by then. The ultimate abilities are (or at least should) be designed to work only against enemy heroes.
