Quote: So a Humanticore or a Mantiman?
How do genders decide on the name?
That is not the point I'm trying to make here. I was trying to argue that if you crossbreed a human and a manticore, the result is not a manticore still.
Also, I did not make up the names of tiger/lion hybrids. Don't ask me why it matters. I just happen to know that they are called different with different parents.
Quote: (Lion + Bat + Scorpion) + Human + Undead = H6 Lamassu
Also this is wrong. It should be Manticore + Human = Lamasu. Manticores aren't the crossbreed of Lions Bats and Scorpions in HoMM. They are creatures which happen to resemble Lions, Dragons and Scorpions in parts of their anatomy, but they are their own species.
But the point to be made is Either call the creature Lamasu or Sphinx if the need is that high. But do not turn the one into the other.

The Manticore is a mix of different creatures no matter where it is used. It is a fantasy creature created by mixing normal creatures together.

The world Manticore literally means man-eater. It is formed from two words which literally mean "man" and the other means "devour" or "to eat".

Tonight, after much negotiation, whining, a passionate speech, pointing to threads like this one, concerns about demographics, more whining from me and some fortunate or unfortunate compromises, we saw the finalised creature names.
While there are still some cases I'd give my right arm to change or improve (one in particular), what's done is done - and it's generally a quite satisfactory list, especially for the last two factions. Much better than what you would have seen, let me tell you. And as you requested - no Sphinx, no Chimera

Are they classified for now or we can learn about at least one or two changes regarding the most controversial names (if they are changed of course)?

Thank you Cepheus. I guess this topic is no longer relevant. I hope we were able to help. And I apologize for not updating this thread recently, I became more busy and it became more messy at the same time. I kept meaning to come back and update it. Thanks to everyone who voiced their thoughts here.

Nothing much I can tell you as long as I don't want my head chopped off and fed to the "Grave Ghouls". No miracles with the revealed factions; it was mainly the two "unknown" factions we got improved, but for those you know: Temptress/Succubus, Excruciator and Bone Guard are touched up. We know Mother Breeders and Demented aren't great, but were unable to get them changed unfortunately - probably because localisation seems to have started before our debates got going. The notoriously horrible Grave Ghoul is also a little bit better.
@Jackson - No problem and thanks, it was indeed more than useful, mainly thanks to all the passion about naming expressed here

Aha, I knew it! You and Elvin already know what the two other factions are. And you have been keeping us in the dark all this time. You've been holding out on us.
I'm glad some of the more terrible names have been updated. To be quite honest, I was not expecting much strech when it came to that. So this is somewhat of a relief.
P.S.
I know, you could not and still cannot tell us anything, without violating your NDA. I just wanted to get some bile out of the ol' system.

Not really. Sir Charles already unveiled that tidbit at Ubi's forums some time ago.

Awesome, thanks so much for that! It's really great that Black Hole is working so closely with the fan community on this one, I give them major accolades for that.

Not really liking Sister and Skeletal Spearman, too regular. The rest are good.
I assume this does mean that Cerberus has 3 heads after all?

So is it now Sister > Vestal, or Sister > Priestess?
And are Radiant and Blazing Glories confirmed then?

Quote: Lilim? What the hell is lilim?
It's the plural (these people will never learn, just like with the Seraphim case) of lili, belonging to the somewhat vaguely defined class of the lilitu demons of Mesopotamia. But I'm not really sure whether lili is feminine or masculine.
OK, we have some changes, but some of them are for the worse. Vestal wasn't perfect, but Sister??? Whose sister??? Nun, anyone?

And Lilith is a re-painted version of Lamashtu and the lilitu demons in general - as usual, the root is much deeper than what one can find in the Bible and its related writings, which quite often use reworked versions of earlier myths/creatures. Lili could be used I guess (if it is feminine), but not in this current plural form (lilin).
As for Sister - my bad here. Not that it makes sense anyway.

Almost all of the changes are extremely stupid and again demonstrate the lack of knowledge of the English language of the developers...
Why the hell is the upgraded Skeleton called Skeletal spearman when even the unupgraded one wields spears???
What the crap does LILIM mean? Temptress was perfect.
I again repeat that Lamasu is one of the most incredibly stupid things I've ever seen or heard. That's a name of a deity, how can you call an unit like that.
Sister? Stupidal as hell. Why don't they call the whole Haven lineup like Brother, Aunt, Uncle, Grandma and so on...
Disappointing, disappointing, disappointing...
