Oz,

The ones you said are "ok" and "fine by me" (Skeleton/Bone Guard, Ghoul/Grave Ghoul, and Vampire/Vampire Lord), do you want me to put positive votes on those? And for the Putrid Lamasu/Festering Lamasu you said "ok" but "meh", so positive, negative, or no vote on that one? Also, since you don't like the 2-headed Cerberus, do you want me to put a positive vote towards Hellhound/Orthrus? (I did put up Orthrus/Cerberus).

FuntimeManchop,

Is that a positive vote for Succubus/Temptress and Succubus Concubine/Succubus Mistress or just Succubus Concubine/Succubus Mistress? "Bonebag > Emperor Bonebag" - I put this up, but... Is it a joke? I apologize in advance if it isn't, it just strikes me as sarcastic?

The most popular and least popular names so far:

The ones with the most positive votes:

In first place:
Juggernaut-> Dreadnought (+4, -0)
Succubus Concubine -> Succubus Mistress (+4, -0)

In second place:
Spider Priest -> Spider Abbot (+3, -0)
Hellhound -> Orthrus/Orthros/Orthus/Orthos (+3, -0)
Holy Knight -> Divine Knight (+3, -0)
Sun Rider -> Sun Crusader (+3, -1)
Angel -> Arch Angel (+3, -1)

The ones with the most negative votes:

In first place:
Seraph -> Celestial (+0, -6)

In second place:
Sentinel -> Praetorian (+1, -3)
Hellhound -> Cerberus (+1, -3)
Tormentor -> Excruciator (+2, -3)

Personally... I'm happy to see Hellhound/Cerberus and Tormentor/Excruciator as two of the less popular ones, but it comes as no surprise that I'm happy to see that... However I'm a little surprised to see Sentinel/Praetorian there as well. I wish Bone Guard was there instead.
I'll try to shut up a bit about the Hellhound/Cerberus because I think I've mentioned it in all of my posts in this thread... Sorry about that... But I'd still like to hear some feedback on my little idea of the Cerberus and Orthrus alternative upgrades. : )

And of course more votes would be highly appreciated. I'm just going to remind everyone one more time, please be clear with your votes. Each pair of names is an entry, and the numbers beside each entry are how many people like (+1) or dislike (-1) it.

Not going to vote at the moment, but a few comments.
Names should be descriptive. So Transcendent, Juggernaut, Abyssal Persecutor, Lamasu (what's a Lamasu?), Tormented (someone who is trying to make sense of these names?), Tormentor (and this must be the people who come up with the names), Excuciator (definitely not)... are all names that don't work.
Names should make sense. It's through a lack of creativity that we've had so many "Kings" and "Queens" in the past. That's why names like Spider Abbot (there are 100 Abbots in my army but no monks), Emperor Bonebag (what?), Black Ghoul (why's it gotta be black?)... are also bad ideas.

What happened to good names, like Troll, Cyclops, Archer, and Swordsman - names that actually described the unit? At this rate H7 will have units with names like "Warrior of Justice" and "Hellish Fiend".

Skeleon, Ghoul, Vampire +1
no vote on Lamasu
no vote on Hellhound->Orthrus

Thank you

If you look at the artwork it's skin color turns darker and it has a black outfit.
Black is mostly the color of evil and suit necromancers the most. Just look at things like the black knight, or the black plague, black represents something that's bad for you. It's a simple, but powerful word.

Except that Necropolis in H6 is not evil.

Who cares if by storyline they are purely good, they still have the evil methods, tortuing their failed brethren, sprouting plague, and sucking blood. They are an evil faction, as they always were, they just do good things(or atleast our campaign hero will).

For you maybe, for them it's not. It's all about point of view.

Well, previously we had, say, 100 Efreet Sultans and no Efreet Subjects. And many Naga Queens. And Cyclops Kings. And Wyvern Monarchs. And so on. Even back in Heroes 2 you have Orc Chieftains, Ogre Lords, Minotaur Kings and Vampire Lords. I agree that keeping the names as simple as possible is the best possible approach, but as the number of creatures increases, it gets more and more difficult to invent new names. And for some reason many people don't dig Fledgling Vampire transforming into Greater Vampire, because, you know, a fledgling in your glorious unstoppable army of destruction and doom?! No way, how can you even suggest something so preposterous?! That's why you won't see many proposals that are simple and actually fitting. And moreover - the creature models are far from simple and practical, they just scream "name me something badass and ridiculous!".
By the way Black Ghoul could be associated with Black Mamba, so it's not that absurd.

Obviously, and we could debate over what's evil or good for pages, or maybe we could just accept that Necros have an evil theme, and black suits them(as we know from the begining of time).

Regarding Black Ghouls, I understand why they're named that - just not why adding black to a creature makes it more powerful.

And yes, the past habit of having stacks of "Kings" is a bad one. If they're lazy, they can at least have the basic unit called whatever it's called, and add "Veteran" to the upgraded creature's name. At least it makes sense to have a hundred veterans but no fresh recruits.

It's just a nice prefix. Just imagine, a king has a specially selected group of guards, they are far better than the rest. The king names then The Black Guard, and it just calls for respect. Just add to the badass factor.

Yes, I'm sorry. It was positive for Succubus, but negative for Temptress. I can't get my head around why they would call the upgrade of a Succubus (a well known demonic creature that sounds badass with powers over men), a "Temptress"; something that sound a lot less powerful and a lot less demonic. I seem to be somewhat alone here, it's probibly because Succubi were one of my favourites in Heroes 5.

Bonebag sounds pretty damn cool to me and also a little funny.
Seems like what their enemies would call it in mockery.
Emporer Bonebag was a joke my brother came up with which I couldn't resist sneaking in there!

Guard/Guardsman -> Praetorian
Crossbowman -> Marksman (name fits it well)
Griffin -> Imperial Griffin (same breed of griffins from HV no, so why change name)
Holy Knight -> Divine Knight
Angel -> Arch Angel (I seriously hate the new name they gave them, for me they shall always be angels and archangels)

Juggernaut -> Dreadnought
Hellhound -> Orthrus/Orthros/Orthus/Orthos (well its no more 3 heads so...)
Pit Fiend -> Pit Lord (whats wrong with this name, it looks exactly like the HV version, just without armor)
Tormentor -> Excruciator (cant think of anything else)
Succubus Concubine -> Succubus Mistress

Dont really care about the necro creatures. But i really dont like the new angel's name. it should be changed quickly

Just wanted a small rage over Priestess and Vestal.
Why is Vestal the upgrade? I had to look up that word and it means pure/chaste/virgin. Priestess conveys more than Vestal ever could.

How about Cardianl or High Priestess. Maybe even have Priestess the upgrade and call the downgrade a Faith Healer.

And since when does changing into your sunday best make you better on the battlefield?

Updated.

Also I wanted to suggest Wendigo as the upgrade for the Ghoul. It may not go well with the image of it, but in general a Ghoul upgrading into a Wendigo would probably work really well.

Crossbowman -> Marksman (+1, +1)
It is a pretty simple unit, no need for fancy names

Spearman -> Sentinel (+1, +1)
same as with the crossbowman, a simple name

Griffin -> War Griffin (+1, +1)

Seraph -> Celestial (+1, +1)
simply because it is no ordinary angel, and I don't know of a better name, maybe judgmental angel

Sun Rider -> Sun Crusader (+1, +1)

Priestess -> Vestal (+1, +1)

Juggernaut -> Dreadnought (+1, +1)

Hellhound -> Orthrus/Orthros/Orthus/Orthos (+1, +1)

Pit Fiend -> Pit Lord (+1, +1)
such a classic and perfect name, however if the pit lord indeed is the champion for inferno then maybe it should have a better name such as chaos fiend/lord.

Succubus -> Temptress (+1, +1)

Lich -> Shadow Lich (+1, +1)

Vampire -> Vampire Lord (+1, +1)

Ghost -> Spectre (+1, +1)

Skeleton -> Skeleton Skirmisher (+1, +1)

Ghoul -> Dark Ghoul (+1, +1)

Sentinel -> Praetorian
I like that.

Crossbowman -> Marksman
This is also good.

Griffin -> Noble Griffin
Griffin -> Royal Griffin
I like them both.
Griffin -> Hippogriff/Hippogryph/Hippogryphe
This does not fit, because the Hippogriff is a different mythological creature.

Seraph -> Celestial
Absolutely not.
Angel -> Arch Angel
Always loved it.

Holy Knight -> Divine Knight
I like this one the best.

Priestess -> Vestal
Absolutely not. A Vestal is a ancient virgin priest, it so does not fit here.
Faith Healer -> Priestess
Sounds good.

Hellhound -> Orthrus/Orthros/Orthus/Orthos
I like this, Orthrus is more correct now, when the creature has only two heads.

Abyssal Knight -> Abyssal Baron
I vote for this.
Baphomet -> Baphomet Lord/Tyrant
Abaddon -> Abaddon Lord/Tyrant
Moloch -> Moloch Lord/Tyrant
I do not like non of them, they make non sense here.

Succubus -> Temptress
May be if it is Temptress -> Succubus...

Spider Priest -> Spider Abbot
I vote for this, but Lich is also ok.

Lamasu -> Sphinx
This is the best one.
Criosphinx -> Manticore
The manticore is a different creature.

And what about the level 7 Necropolis creature? I did not see any suggestions about it's name.

My preferences:

Sentinel -> Praetorian
Crossbowman -> Marksman
Griffin -> Imperial Griffin
I like original names.

Seraph -> Celestial
Awful! -1
And I neither like other variants.
Celestial -> Seraph is better.

Sun Rider -> Sun Crusader
Like it!
Holy Knight -> Divine Knight
So stereotypical and imagenationless -1

Juggernaut -> Juggernaut Ravager
Do not like -1
Juggernaut -> Dreadnought
+1

Hellhound -> Cerberus
No. -1
Hellhound -> Orthrus/Orthros/Orthus/Orthos
Suits unit

Succubus -> Temptress (+2, -1)
+1

Maniac -> Demented (+0, -0)
OH, SHI~! No! -1
Suggestions:
Gog -> Magog
Why not? the "real" gogs and magogs are two barbarian and blood-lusting nations who will come in the Second Coming of Christ and will beat humans.

Names suit "Maniac's" origin pretty well.

Ok you guys. I don't know why nobody has brought this up yet, but the Cerberus has 3 heads. That is why the Cerberus should remain to be called the Cerberus. Take the artwork, zoom in, take a good, hard look at the second head and you can see the silhouette of the third head.
So please cut the: "OOh,it should be called Orthus"-whining. It has three flippin' heads.
