I agree with Cepheus. Kudos to him and Elvin for changing some of the names and the effort they have done for it.
I'm not that bothered with Sister to be honest. It is the proper term for a woman of the cloth.
The only thing that actually got a downgrade is the Skeletal Spearman. Boneguard was better, but I can live with it.
Now let us put this to rest until we get an actual new faction.

My guess would be that it's got something to do with the religious order they belong to, and makes more sense in that context than Priestess.
Priestess might have also become the name for the Magic hero class? Who knows.

Yes, something like that. Hopefully I'll be able to explain the reasoning properly, soon.

Quote: As I said, no miracles with these factions due to a lack of notice, though I consider fixing the Lamasu and the horrendous "Excruciator" very worthwhile updates.
Yes, but they are not really fixed, just made slightly more tolerable and some other creatures received even worse or completely wrong names (the "new" name of what was previously Temptress can not remain Lilim, it's like Imp upgrading into Familiars - just for example). I really hope that the other two factions had some really horrendous names which were changed into some very nice ones, otherwise the whole renaming exercise is in vain.
By the way if the Failbook thing is true, then they definitely have very weird understanding of "we are listening to the voice of the community". And this is the most polite expression I can think of.

Let me guess, a creature or hero in the 4th or 5th faction is going to be named Priestess.

Well, they are almost certainly fully aware of everything in this thread, and I'll say it again, I'm not entirely satisfied with the names either - but let's say the "tolerability" has been vastly improved, as much as it could have been I guess.
And hey, if anyone here really thinks Bone Guard was a decent name... Anyway, I wish the factions were revealed earlier so all the complaining from us and yourselves could have been considered properly, but not even those developing the game have the final say on that.

Thinking from the top of my head:
Devoted Sister
Maiden?
Vestalis Maxima?(actual name)
browsing through wikipedia
Naditu served as priestesses in the temples of Inanna in the ancient city of Erech. They were recruited from the highest families in the land and were supposed to remain childless, owned property and transacted business.
I also tried to look up another roman goddess (Ceres) but couldn't find anything about the priestesses.

Bone Guard was pretty bad, but now we have a reincarnation of the Grave Ghoul in its place. Previously it was Ghoul changing into... Ghoul (the Grave thing did not make the creature different at all, like Human - Alive Human), now we have Skeleton armed with spears changing into Skeletal Spearman...
Anyway, the damage is done I guess. Moving on...

Yup.
Bone Guard doesn't make any sense for something that's dual-wielding spears; it doesn't look like a guard in any capacity. Guards have shields. Guard carries a very defensive connotation. These things look ready to sprint across the battlefield and bury two spears in something; that doesn't exactly make me think of a guard.
Funtime, you're gonna want to edit that before a mod sees it and does it for you. No strenuous profanity allowed.
@Zenofex:
The Skeleton has always upgraded to something with Skeleton in the name in the past: Skeleton Archer, Skeleton Warrior, Skeleton Warrior (again ). It's not exactly like calling it "Skeleton ________" is a new trend for Heroes.

Like Cepheus said, there's no doubt a context to it that we just don't have knowledge of yet.

Personally... No. Why? Well, a word Guard doesn't necessarily mean that they must use/have a shield. I think that the Guard in the Bone Guard means that skeletons are the first line of defense and that they are literary bone shields to other more important units (Example: Vampire, Liches...). It is like in our world. The infantry (or whatever is the name of the first line of solders both in ancient and modern time) is the meat shield of other units, again more important...

Yeah well I know, it's just that they must be able to come up with something better. Just add something, like divine sister, holy sister, medical sister
Or maybe I just need time to process, Anyway I also like the Skeletal Spearman more then Bone Guard, but I wonder is it really skeletal? not skeleton?

What's with the uprising against Skeletal Spearman?
People didn't have this kind of reaction for Skeleton Archer, did they? The name's functionally the same thing.

Quote: Well if people nitpick on GUARD soo freaking much, just change the titel to BONE MARAUDER.
Much better, actually, its pretty much above perfect, its glorious.
Nja I think that screams OVERPOWER a little bit to much for such a small and insignificant unit. Maybe thats just me, or maybe I have played SC2 too much...
Quote: People didn't have this kind of reaction for Skeleton Archer, did they? The name's functionally the same thing.
this, i mean it is just a skeleton, a core unit no need for fancy names like bone guard. Okey it's not that fancy but still skeletal spearmen is much better

Well the regular skeleton is already using spears, so the name doesn't even make sense on a basic level.
The insistence on using skeletal rather than skeleton irks me, as skeletal is more of a description of something that looks like a skeleton.
I preferred bone guard. It implied some kind of elite skeleton warrior. Even though it was only a core unit, it was still kind of cool.

Giving a crappy T1 equivalent a name that makes it sound like an elite warrior might not be a great idea; people will be disappointed when they die like chumps.
