I sure hope the creatures we saw on that gameplay video, were not the Water Elementals but the River Spirits just temporarily called Water Elementals. Cepheus said the two look alike, but I really hope it's not them, cause then it's not just looking alike but practically the same design.

Take that out, and I strongly disagree with anyone saying that the River Spirits look similar to any other unit. Especially, they're nothing like Blazing Glories and Ice Maidens. Not in my eyes at least.

Even though if those were the Water Elementals and the River Spirits then are their twin sisters, for me there's no reason to cry about it. Just one black sheep amongst all the creatures of the game, won't spoil anything to me. We've got bigger problems, I think, with Town Windows and the threat of DRM ruining the game.

A creature can be "creative" with respect to the concept, the looks, how it fits the context of the faction it's in, how it fits the larger context of the game, how it fits the even larger context of the Ashan lore... Concerning the looks, it all comes down to subjective preference. I for one like it, and I don't mind its somewhat resembling the Haven's Glory. I see it as an attempt to unify the spirits. As for its supposed likeness to the Water Elemental, we still don't know yet, so it's absurd to dismiss it based on speculation.

I agree with some others with the Naga "buzz" created by Warcraft 3.
I think that Homm developers could have taken much more cooler creatures from other mythologies and not to copy the W3 lineup with some differences.

For now... what I see is 3 nice creatures : the shark warrior, the blue toad and the frozen spirit (the woman suited with japansese like clothes).

The dragon is... just another dragon. I have been fed up with them in Homm 5 (there was even dragons with dwarves Oo), but well, these are the only second sort of dragons we got in Homm 6, so why not.

The medusa doesn't fit this city to me. Ok she has snakes on the top of her head, that doesn't mean she has to be teamed up with reptilian watery creatures. There are snakes in swamps, deserts, caves and moutains too. Anyway something better could have been found here.

Same goes for the water elemental woman. Another woman with no real identity. We could almost think this is the same creature as the frozen spirit, which is much cooler IMO (lol). A mix between them would have been nice, and would have let a free slot for another monster.

The four armed samourai is nice indeed... but this is a pale copy of the Homm 3 Naga (the real Naga I mean) or the Homm 5 Rakshasa. Those two are nicer to me. And why the hell would you wear an armor if you plan to dive underwater Oo ? Ok, l'est say this one will only swim on shallow seas.

The Asian theme doesn't bother me that much. But I like the way it was included in Homm 3 better. Music theme, architecture, but still sylvan creatures and not samourais or geishas. This is Homm, not some city of weird craetures living in Japan.

I may be talking about Homm 3 and its (perfects) line ups too much here. We won't see that anymore, I know. But I have the pretty same thoughts about the other Homm 6 towns. Lack of innovation or reserach. And "only" 5 towns... well... back to Homm 4 then ?

All of this didn't prevent me to preorder the game though. But this is more thanks to the hero progression system, not thanks to these strange line ups and town backgrounds.

I'm still holding out hope that the "water elemental" was just a river spirit from an earlier build. Maybe they changed things around. It would be rather odd to have such a similar unit as a neutral.

Creative...hmm pray tell what is creative about liches, dragons, etc?  I am really curious.  Most of the creatures in HoMM are not exactly the pentacle of creativity.

I myself am simply outraged due to the fact that we only have 4 (eight if you count the upgrades) female creatures with tattoos all over.

I mean, C'mon! It's a disgrace.

I'm relatively certain most people would not mind.
And it's not certain they are tattoos. it could be body paint or pigment markings as well.
Don't jump to conclusions.

That's clever, but aside from the Glory and the River Spirit, I wouldn't say they look similar (if that was what you were getting at).

I think he meant that there are to many tattoos in the game. and that is a nice topic that I think could be started in the Main discusion topic.

For the naga.
I do really like there setting, there town looks just perfect and I always like new things and twists

One thing I do really like to point about is the pleasant surprise how the spring coral maiden had come out.
First point they do not look so sweet and nice like on the leaked artwork, second they do look much more thretning.
Other good things are
There hair looks fantastic, it doesnt look so unnatural like those of SucubasH6/Blood maidenH5/MatriarchH5

And I woul love them to look more like bellydancers.

I also think the Coral Maiden came out a lot cooler then I thought it would.
Overall I really like the Sanctuary, even if I still dislike the evil trinity of female units.

I am comming to terms with this faction slowly.

I am finding that they barrowed from the orginal legends more than i thought which I like and I enjoy they that they live in the jungle. I would have expected their units to be numrious and weak like the orginal Naga often were but that's nether here nor there.

I also enjoy that most of the other gamers don't know the refrences to the orginal Naga legends when they see them; it shows the developers didn't get all their ideas from WOW.

Yay somebody gets where I'm coming from!

Just like the sharkman is also from an original legend, they even gave the Kappa a bowl shaped head for him to carry water in.

Yet despite that, they still wanted the Cerberus to be two headed instead of giving him either 3 heads or naming him Orthus. :/

*sighs* I am starting to show my age.  Because I am getting a bit fed up with the 'They stole it from WoW' bit.  WoW has not been around THAT long, and not much they have is actually original (they have a few things, but not near what some people think). Believe me when I say, that 'WoW' stole a lot of things from other things.

And that jab was completely uncalled for, could we stop dragging Blizzard's art design into this?

Sure, originality is important but the Warcraft Art style is one of the strongest points of the franchise, because it's friendly enough to be accesible and inviting yet flexible enough to be capable of showing some pretty morbid and sinister subject matter.
It doesn't take itself to seriously yet it's not full blown parody mode either.
Many games (not saying all, and not saying Heroes) could do well to examine their art style.
There is a reason the Blizzard games are so popular, and hating them doesn't make you cooler by default. (not implying that you do, just putting that statement out there.)
Though I'll admit there is plenty of reason to hate WoW.

Jabbing at it for no reason only provokes fans from either game into unconstructive and juvinile flaming.

We've no established Heroes isn't copying or even trying to copy, it's pulling inspiration from existing myth and legend, and only loosely at best, letting other games, movies or illustrations influence the design.

So lets put away our hook-shots and cork our fairies....dunno... feeling like playing Zelda....

That wasn't my point. I just liked the orginal Naga legends and I appreciate Ubisoft looked at them. That's all.

Today I came across a picture of a Glaucus Atlanticus
It is a miniature see slug.. but please look at it.. and say.. that this would not make a perfect water unit for the naga?

Well it would be awsome for a sea creature faction. Mermaids could ride it!

Do you even know the final names other than kirin and kenshi/kensei?

@Raelag84
There is more to the lineups than meets the eye and that also goes for the nagas.
