Mustaffa leads the people out to the clearing. "We will set up a defensive perimeter here, everyone will stay away from the grass until I say otherwise. The orders remain the same, if anything rushes us shoot it. If it does not act hostile then you will not fire, anyone who does must answer to me. I will send a signal to the ship once I feel the area is properly secured, until then we will have to make the clearing larger by pressing down the grass the way we have done so far."

The perimeter is soon seen to be the least of your worries as the ground itself begins to vibrate. You see the claw of something big reaching out of the ground for Arlea(think the Banjo (top dino), but bigger). The things that had been watching you stay well away from the clearing.
A short ways away, you can just see the top of a forest canopy... only half a mile away, at most.

Arlea stopped just as she felt the first soft but distinct tremors under her feet. Suddenly the ground started to shake violently and the loose dirt bounced like a trampoline on the ground.
Arlea froze as a huge talon burst through the dirt.

Mustaffa tore the energyrifle from his back and fired three shots at the bottom of the claw, aiming to remove the whole thing from whatever it belonged to, then he ran forward while shouting for Arlea to get away.

The deafing roar from the energyrifle sent Arlea leaping like a startled cat, several feet through the air. She barely heard the Guardian shouting at her, as she turned and sprinted towards the trees.
The claw that erupted in front of her nearly sent her sprawling, as Arlea involuntarily shrieked and skidded to a halt.

Arlea had been separated from the group and she knew she had to get back to them pronto, but the talons and turned into claw's and they were quickly bursting through the dirt. The creature the claws belonged to was quickly revealing itself .... and Arlea couldn't believe what she was witnessing.
She heard the Guardian call out, but the monster was surfacing between Arlea and the group and the roar of the ground erupting and the rifles were confusing her. Her only option now was to risk running alone towards the direction that Mustaffa was frantically indicating or ..... to attempt to draw the creature away from the group.
Arlea didn't like either prospect.

The creature gazes at all of you curiously, shaking the injured paw and looking for whatever it was that had caused it injury and sniffing the air. It sees the main group running, and Arlea just sitting there at the edge of its clearing...
You don't particularly like the look it sends in your direction.

Arlea watched the massive creature with an overwhelming sense of pure fear. She looked for the groups psychic "we need to know right now if this things is going to want to eat us, before Mustaffa blows it to pieces!", she thought. "To hell with it!" she shouted and sprinted towards the trees.

"Flash grenade, keep your eyes at your destination and keep running!" Mustaffa roared and fired three shots at the dinosaurs left knee. "Do not look back, run!"
He picked a flash grenade from out of his backpack and threw it with all his force in the direction the dinosaur was looking, hoping it would be at least temporarily blinded.

The shots at its knee seem to cause a reflex-like action and makes the entire leg stomp the ground repeatedly, and it burned away the first two layers of scales, but other than that, it seems to give the creature little more than a limp. The flash grenade, though, causes the monster to real around drunkenly for a while with its eyes unfocussed and it springs with speed that something that big should not have (it just isn't fare to its small prey... you) at the spot that Arlea had been standing just moments before. Its jaws snap shut only a meter away from the martian as she runs with everyone else towards the (hopefully) safe forest.
For about twelve seconds after its failed attack, the creature, lets call him "Bruce", shakes his head to try and clear his vision. A few creatures that had been hiding in the grass creep out to investigate if Bruce had gone blind, and he kills them with one sweep of his tail. The giant dino looks around for a while, sniffing the air to pick up your trail, and gives a roar of sheer annoyance as it starts following you.
It's catching up, even though it has a small limp and you had a minute's head start.

Arlea ran faster than she had ever run before. Reaching into her tool belt she deftly removed a string of what appeared to be large green glass pearls. Turning slightly to look behind her, and get the monsters position, she swung them violently high into the air, never missing a stride.
Her martian skin suddenly took on a slight green metallic sheen as she prepared herself. The monster's hawklike vision caught the flash of the pearl's as they rocketed high above him.
Arlea knew the creature was gaining on her and her lungs felt like they were bursting from the exertion.
Suddenly the glass orbs began to sparkle and with a burst of light separated violently, spiralling and hurtling towards the creature. With a shrill yet dull thwack, they hit the creature causing it to momentarily loose balance. The orbs burned their way deep into the creatures flesh, digging deeper. The creature bellowed in pain and the acid from the orbs burned and dissolved its flesh.
The creasture stumbled sideways and almost lost balance. Arlea turned her head and saw the creature reel sideways. She put her head down and continued running at full speed towards Mustaffa.
With a massive roar like cannonfire, the orbs exploded, sending chunks of the creatures flesh flying out in all directions. The monster howled in agony and the violence of the explosion made it fall backwards.
As Arlea reached Mustaffa, she turned and watched as the creature whimpering and stumbling backed off from the group and began to retreat, heavily wounded and bleeding profusely.

Your stop last about all of half a second, and seems to re-annoy the dino (aka, it's a bit too big to be stopped for long), but Bruce takes one long look at Arlea and decides that he doesn't want to risk her having another one of those acid things that had actually caused him pain.
The overgrown dino limps back to the clearing, snatching up one of the dead aliens as a quick snack before burrowing again. In a minute, the ground looks only a little unsettled by the beast's eruption, footsteps and re-submersion, if you hadn't been there and seen what had happened, you wouldn't believe it if someone had told you. Suppressing a shudder and the feeling that it could have killed you if it wanted to, you all realize that nothing is watching you anymore... in fact, things seem to be going out of their way to avoid you and the rest of your journey to the forest. The sounds return, and you see another clearing with many creatures moving in it that scatter as you approach.

Mustaffa growled slightly now and then as they walked through the forest, he was trying to make his energy rifle fire all its energy in one single burst. It would leave the weapon unusable for a half hour while it recharged, but it would be the best defense against monsters like the one they had just encountered. One perfect shot might even kill it, if he found some way to penetrate the thick hide.
He touched Arleas shoulder. "You did very well." he murmured softly, making sure no one else heard.

Arlea managed to smile at the Guardian, she was still very shaken by the whole incident. She walked next to Mustaffa silently for a while, not really able to speak. Then finally, "What on earth do you think it was?", she asked, not really expecting an answer. "It looked almost prehistoric. But like nothing I've ever seen. I mean dinosaur's nesting underground! Are we really sure this planet is going to be a good place to colonize?".

Arlea turned to the Guardian, "I just don't see how the hell we are going to be safe from something like that", Arlea commented. "I mean what if that isn't the biggest animal here? How are we going to secure any building or perimeter .. from that!?". Arlea glanced at the psychic. "Even with prior warning that one of these things was approaching, we don't have the firepower to take a pack of these things down. We barely slowed that one down! ....... I can set as many traps and claymores at you like, but after what we've seen they're going to be of little use. We need cannons".
She stopped walking and touched the Guardian's arm, making him stop. "Once the passengers find out what's going on down here, they are going to want to go straight back to Earth. They are not going to want to land here".
