I think I'm level 29, so probably far from any ultimate build. I could still check it though.
lol, I use none of those skills actually.
my current build uses
-shock pulse (fire bolts)
-spectral blade
-disintegrate (convergence)
-frost nova (shatter)
-storm armor (reactive armor)
-wave of force

I can see some differences with my version of the game, magic missile is the most powerful signature spell (it is the less powerful in my version), my disintegrate doesn't deal increased damage over time, my frost nova lasts 3s, not 2, my wave of force doesn't only hurt enemies, but knock them back and slow them down.

Those skills don't differ too much honestly. And currently, there is one build that works, and it's the fire wizard (firebird set).

There are new items on the way in 2.2, so this may change.

I don't play Wizard but people don't seem to be impressed with new set that is coming out soon.

My friend is playing Wizard as main and he says that new set is weaker but definitely sounds a lot more fun and has a ton more variations than Firebird set that everybody plays the same way.
And that is great in my opinion, set doesn't need to be amazing(in terms of damage output), it needs to be fun, solid and playable.

New items look cool, yes. I'll probably give Wizard (and Diablo3) another shot when the set comes out (which means next patch, probably in 2-3 months):

seems fun

that's funny, this set determines your whole build. I haven't found anything yet that provides such bonuses, items almost only provide generic bonuses.

I suppose the new items are all legendary?
all items seem randomly generated, except legendary items which seem to not have random names.

so far I remember finding the barber, the stellar fire, a something crown and I think the hammer of odin, which is very cool and quite OP where I am, since it is 50% more powerful than the best weapons the merchants sell

I guess you are still leveling. Don't worry, you still didn't see anything in Diablo 3.
There are a ton of legendary items(not even set items, just individual items) that can change your build a lot. After you reach level 70 the fun begins, since you start to get Paragon levels that pump your stats a lot, you start upgrading your gear a lot and you are faster and faster at clearing Rifts and Greater Rifts, which means more items. You start to experiment with a lot of builds while upgrading your gear and game becomes really fun. On torment 5 and 6 difficulty, legendary and set items are quite common.

I just came back to Reaper of Souls, didn't play it for like half a year or something, and I am leveling up my third Witch Doctor because I have so many good and fun builds to try that I can't bother to switch items, gems and skills every time I want to play different WD.

Diablo3 "endgame" is all about build defining sets. They are so powerful that regular bonuses look like a joke compared to them.

Played this game rather a lot, still a while after its release. Didn't hook me, even after the monster level update.

Then I heard of the end of that heretic AH and the expansion set. Now, it does sound playable. I wonder if I should try it.

But my stern side only states to me that: a game that needs an expansion to become playable or fun is not worthy my time.

I do resent these 'drug-like' games, you have a bit of fun with them, then you realize they are so bad. Just like H6. Luckily, didn't bought the latter.

Meanwhile there are people who play its predecessors earlier versions because they offer a different gaming experience..

For Diablo II, I don't know much about the versions between 1.00 and 1.07 (which is the first version the expansion can be played on), but 1.00 and 1.07 are quite different. Not sure about 1.08, but the game got a lot easier at 1.09 and then quite a change took place with the introduction of 1.10, which somewhat overhauled the skills system.

Edit:
The difference is in regard to monsters and items, the graphics of the game are more or less the same, with some variations (mainly enemy spells) though.

2 was very nice. I remember most of the main chances, but only after the Expansion. Started playing from there hence. Hooked me alright and it would still if I happened to play it again. =)

unexpected act 4 (the location, not the plot twist), I like it.
it was short also

starting a monk now. damn, the guy kicks serious ass I advance quicker than with the sorceress. actually he makes my sorceress feel underpowered. that guy is an unstoppable merciless killing machine

someone knows how DPS work for monks when you use 2 weapons?

the one thing I noticed is that the DPS in the stats screen is the average of the 2 weapons, which makes no sense ??? if I add a second weapon which is weaker than the 1st one, the DPS drop ???
also, I don't get how attack per seconds are calculated, if I equip 1 or 2 one-handed weapon with same speed, the stats don't change.

also I saw DPS in the stats screen changing without me changing anything or having any active effect ???

How's it going with your monk, Fauch ? As far as I can tell you're playing the vanilla version, right ?
I have a monk but that is RoS and he's a lot of fun in my opinion. Next big step for me is wheter I should be going full dps or still have a few "Oh shieeeet" buttons at my disposal

didn't level it much, I think he was lvl10 and now is 18. weirdly the game gets progressively harder with him, whereas with sorceress it was the contrary (though I just found my first legendary weapon, with the sorceress I had already 2 of them by that lvl, so that's what made it easier. and yeah, I saw that I could use the sorceress'ones, but I want the monk to find his own weapons)

I still have no idea what the point of dual wielding is... well, my legendary weapon is one-handed and deals more damage than 2-handed weapons, so that's a no brainer here. I picked a shield instead of a 2nd weapon, even though I don't really need one because I at least know I get benefits from it.

I use fists of thunder with a teleport effect, crippling wave, wave of light is my damage dealer for big enemies, I find cyclone strike quite effective, and finally tempest rush which is mostly used for catching up quickly to certain enemies, like shamans.

duh, and breath of heaven. took a lil while to get used to it. I think I died once because I was too slow to heal myself, I'm still used to my sorceress build, so I get confused sometimes.

I like the self-found characters myself

About the dual wielding stuff and by no means am I an expert, but if you have, say, 2 one hander with 1.4 you'll get more swings at an enemy than with a 2 hander with 1.00 , no ?
The 2 hander may have more raw dmg but you'll get the benefit from the 2 one handers and like I said more swings / attacks.

Skill-wise, I always had the crippling wave myself ( with the cold skill ) or deadly reach with the dmg booster to all skills.

You should really look into serenity / dashing strike - That would, in my opinion, make you more of a battle mage type of character thus combining your wizard and monk

I could also have one one-handed weapon + a shield and attack speed would still be 1.4 and damage no lesser.

well, anyway I got a crazy lot of legendary items in my last session, and my monk became super strong. I put the wildwood in one hand and the son of odyn in the other, it's quite cool. dunno if it's better than the shield, but it's not like the enemies can do much anyway.

weirdly I can't have a wildwood in each hand. but I do like the son of odyn, I used it throughout act 3 with the sorceress and until diablo.

it says serenity only lasts for 3s, so I'm not sure how good it is. the sorceress had something like that, diamond skin I think, I never used it.

now, I thought about dashing strike, it made me think of Stinger which is one of my favourite moves in DMC, but when I tried it, it didn't seem that effective, I think I missed my targets a few times, so I went with tempest rush instead.

now there is seven-sided strike I should try, I can apply a rune with a teleport effect.

There's no better way of posting this than necromancy

Blizzard announced the necromancer class for diablo III. If Diablo III wasn't such a bad game I'd buy it just for this, but for now I will just stick to original Diablo II and MedianXL mod.

Quote:
The Necromancer will be the next fully-playable class introduced to Diablo III: Reaper of Souls. As a master of the dark arts, you draw your magic from the power of death itself, and command mighty armies of risen warriors! Oh, and you can make corpses explode. There are definitely exploding corpses.

My favorite in Diablo 2, this will be too similar and overlapping with Witchdoctor, I guess. So, I dont know if it's a good idea. I mean, you have a necromancer, yet someone else casts zombie walls and summons undead dogs...
