That was just one of many endearing aspects of the old games :3
It makes sense to get bad deals in the beginning, because you're basically trading with independent nations/merchants.
The market place is, and always was meant to be used as a last resort.
As your "empire" expand, so does your influence over the marketplaces you are in control of, thus alleviating bad deals to some degree.
Artefacts increasing X resource is nothing new.

Yikes, I just read some of C_h_u_c_k_l_e_s's comments on ubi forum in response to KingImp! here
ubi are "not the ones doing the programming, testing & designing"
I smiled when I read it.

Quote: Yeah, seriously. The way I look at it is that there is a big learning curve in making a game as complex as a Heroes game is in general. When Nival took the reigns for H5, they struggled to get a grip on the ins and outs of what the fans expect and of the complexity involved. By the time they reached the 2nd expansion, I thought the game was VERY solid. But unfortunately, they switched developers again for H6 so the learning had to begin again. And now that BH is out of the picture, it's about to happen again. I know that Ubi has been in charge from the beginning, but they're not the ones doing the programming, testing & designing. Changing developers (or making the wrong choices in developers) has been the biggest problem Ubi's done IMO. That, and of course pushing the developers to release by a specific time.
Nothing more to remark

Now that you've stated it so obviously,
[I was sly in my post & wasn't sure if the post would get edited out by ubi]
that was the other main reason I smiled.

If it's true, then it would explain why it's taking so long. I know from what little experience I have that it's hard to work with code that isn't your own. A new company that has to wrap it's head around existing code is just about as difficult as completely coding a new game.

So, with this change of developer, can I expect something good in the expansion pack? Or do I have to wait for Heroes 7?

Indeed, though I wouldn't count on a top notch game developer... Most probably it'll be as usual: the studio which promises the lowest production costs will be given the project, whether it actually is capable to fulfill its promises or not.

wait?
so will this new company produce the expansions or will they just start working on H7?
honestly, I think they should just reboot the entire series at this point
I would love a reboot that featured modern 2D graphics!
edit: also I still don't get why Nival - who made a great game with TotE - had to go.

Don't think that Ubisoft will move to Heroes VII that easily, especially when Heroes VI is not even finished yet. And I just can't imagine going back to 2D graphics. That would deter too many newcommers.

I think it would be interesting if they just rereleased H3 with HD graphics and some balance tweaks. I think they could make a good profit without working very hard on that.

If they did that, they would probably screw it even harder and kill the best game in the series too. It is a matter of skill, not about goals.
The question, as I see it, is: what will happen with HC (or other similar forums) if Heroes are canceled. So far, Heroes 3-5 activity is inexistent or almost, the only thing which kept forums barely alive was the hope of a new and successful sequel.

Somehow, this makes me more interested in the game. I wonder if another company can do a better job than BlackHole. Granted, much of the blame is UBI, but I'd like to think there is some future.

it's thoughts like these by fans that fool the developer into thinking they may be making a great game but instead actually chose the wrong implementation path & actually made more others feel b****-slapped in the face.
eg. player A thinks a feature should be changed a lot, player B doesn't mind at all & player C thinks it can be tweaked slightly.
Then implementation is too much over-reaction ==> player A likes it, but both player B & C are pissed off ==> end up with 1 fan instead of 3.
ofc part of that sentence is valid too
Just that the first focus should still be make a great enjoyable long-lasting replayable game.
Strangely, best we can do is keep our hopes up (& like ChaosWielder, mine has risen ever so slightly if there will at least be more than two people working on the game or get going after familiarisation with the existing code in the coming months)
It's also possible for example that programming for abilities/effects are coded individually for each circumstance at many different places (like H5 as mentioned by a wizard of highest-renown). In H6 the creature effects are sadly much more numerous ==> potentially exponentially compounding a problem.
Agree with Salamandre about killing H3 if re-released with different graphics...his map is making huge impact on forum activity (H3 has no sim-turns)
