False alarm. Demo will be available at Streamfest but... with 20% Factory done and 60% of terrain objects done. So it won't be public release untill official release not earlier than 31th December.

Well that's what I meant by being a demo... wouldn't have been demo if it was with everything.

But damn shame that it wouldn't be released in public.

If the HotA team is still developing they should also consider giving each town its own terrain: Taiga for Rampart and Lush/Jungle/Tropical for Cove as well as adding more fit model for Male and Female Necromancer Hero(I'm against using Wraith and Vampire Lord):

Also, if they are considering to continue adding towns beyond factory, it would be nice if they considered a Desert town with some of the neutral units in the lineup: Rogues, Nomads, Enchanters and maybe Trolls (though Ironsand desert looks like Factory environment so Trolls could fit into factory):
Thief (Rogue un-upgraded)
Nomad Upgrade
Troll Upgrade

For hero Classes:
Magic Hero - Mystic(Indian themed - artwork is already there from Might and Magic 6):
Male Mystic
Female Mystic

Might Hero - Assassin(arabian/persian themed inspired from Nizari Assassins - artwork from Stronghold Crusader):
Male Assassin
Female Assassin

Suggested lineup: Wasps(1), Thieves&Rogues(2), Nomads(3), Narasimhas(4), Trolls(5), Enchanters(6) and Anubises(7).
Most graphics for this lineup are actually ready: Rogue(upg.thief), Nomad(no upg), Troll(no upg) and Enchanter(can't decide whether is upgraded or not).

Other Units:
Wasp (Lv.1)
Narasimhas (Lv.4) (erraneously called Rakshasas which means demons in Heroes V, - Narasimha is an avatar of vishnu and it means Lion-Man in Sanskrit - Level)
Netherworld Guardians (Lv.7)
(Names would be Threshold Dweller -> Netherworld Guardian, inspired by the eastern belief of the Dweller in the Threshold/Guardian of the Threshold which appears as a large dog as Anubis is derived from this archetype just like Cerberus).


There are several reasons why I'd suggest adding a the desert themed town:
* Fills the desert terrain with a town and makes use of some unused concepts.

* It is loyal to the official Might and Magic lore which introduces us to a Desert Culture in Might and Magic 6.

* Makes possible to play with formerly neutral units as well as providing upgrades/degrades for them.

* The main theme of Horn of the Abyss is Piracy, and North African & Saracen pirates were some of the most feared in the whole world so they fit with the HotA theme in general.

* 1001 Nights is one of the earliest known literary works of fantasy and even science fiction(some of the tales there speak of people living in other planets or even in the bottom of the sea), therefore Eastern culture deserves a theme of its own.

On a final note, I don't think they will have time/willingness to continue with new towns after 1 besides factory Factory, but if they still want Kronverk in a very very distant future as 4th town(since my suggested Desert town is already half finished), I would advise them to see Might & Magic 9 and Heroes IV TGC as good sources for norse-themed towns. There is even a Valkyrie concept art in NWC's Heroes V surviving documents. Dark Elves of Alvar would also fit nicely there as a possible level 3 or 4.

I agree with the desert theme. I really like Nepherets Oasis idea and line up. Or even Bastion. But maybe focus on little things, then expand, like some creature wich can be used on bigger things on future.

Factory already work in this gap

Htoh, this means the RMG will fill the map with so many different towns you hardly get two of the same type so you can strength your forces.
I would prefer to see more neutrals, namely filling some blanks like no mid-level neutral flier or teleporter. Sometimes I want to make a trap on an event or Pandora Box using Enchanters or Sharpshooters and some creatures able to cross the battlefield in one turn but the weakest neutral fulfilling the requisite is a Rust Dragon...

Hi!
Does anyone know if its possible to  edit Player2 default name for a custom one?
I'm playing H3: HotA with my girlfriend and its kinda annoying to change it everytime we load a map.
I already managed to edit Player1 name in some ini file (if I remember well) but I just cant find that Player 2 in the files.
I guess it might be in hex.

Looking forward for solution

I'd like to see more players. Kinda like this picture I saw floating around HC earlier. I believe in the VCMI thread. The hope for 4 more players to make it a total of 12 players. More players to play the new towns added.

Back to topic... Anyway... good luck with disassembling the whole HoMM3 code for adding more factions, and tons of recoding that would took years if you work alone.

Also the "Screenshot" looks kinda old... I mean back in 2000 I also used a monitor like this... 17" or something... doesn't look very convincing to be an actual HotA demo.
