Two points to remember:
1) The tomes and hat are all relics, so rare, and quite expensive too if you can get them at all.
2) There are only a few Miscellaneous slots, so depending on how your hero is equipped, you may find that you don't really want to swap out any of your existing artefacts for the Tome, especially if you've got a might hero with no schools, or a different one to what the tome is.

I'm not unhappy with the answer Matt.
Still I find it a bit strange that you can cast level 3-5 spells without Wisdom. Same with heroes like Solmyr, Deemer, Aislinn how can they know level 4 spells without Adv. Wisdom, it just does'nt make sense to me.

I can see you're very active on writing on this thread, but do you read what other people post? This question was already answered by nik two pages ago already.

nik312 said:

Alternative units are highly unlikely to appear in HotA as there is no adequate, natural realisation of that feature as well as no special need for it. However, units that were ones planned as alternatives, may appear as neutrals (as Satyrs already did).

He also said this:

we cannot fully exclude the possibility that alternative units may become some future town's unique feature.

So they're not working on it, there will be no alternative creatures for classic towns and Cove. There's a possibility that we might see some alternatives for a future town, but that is just an idea.

Husham stop being an idiot and start reading the thread. You ask the same questions over and over again and it's getting tiring. I don't care if you're 12 years old - I could read perfectly fine back when I was 12 and I'm sure I could navigate a forum as well.

I already acted baby sitter for you two pages back and gave you a quote from Nik which you have failed to read a SECOND time;

@Phoenix4ever

I think that there's already a good game balance/dynamic between Wisdom and artefacts in respect to using spells. To elaborate, it's generally too risky not to level Wisdom at some point because finding specific relics or scrolls in good time is no guarantee. Levelling Wisdom will likely allow you to learn and use control spells sooner rather than later which can matter a lot in competitive play. Like, from such as Shines of Mysteries, GMs, Pandora's boxes and support Scholars.

Edit: I should probably mention that on a unique template such as Jebus Cross acquiring Wisdom might not always prove to be as useful as it generally always is on the more control focused templates such as 8MM6a.

Now, another side of this matter is that if you're unlucky to end up not getting Wisdom which can, for example, happen if you skip it when offered at level 6 and 12 while hoping to take it at level 18 - but instead you get offered a magic school + some other random skill. If this happens then acquiring spell given artefacts will at least to some extent allow you to circumvent having Wisdom. Again, finding these artefacts can take time/luck.

Anyhow, you also said that you don't get why Solmyr and other such speciality heroes should be allowed to use a higher level spell than their Wisdom level indicates. Well, to me, it makes a lot of sense. It's simply a part of what makes these types of speciality heroes unique and gives them some extra potential to prove useful. They could start with advanced Wisdom, sure, but then they couldn't start with another secondary skill which would remove some of the uniqueness about it. Anyway, there might be some HW restrictions on using heroes such as Solyr on some smaller map sizes/templates unless you have a level 4 GM. At least I think I read a passage about this.

Thanks for your reply Hippox.
Yes it would definitely be risky going without Wisdom and hoping for Tomes and Spellbinder's Hat and I would never choose to go without Wisdom (Or Earth Magic, even with Town Portal, Resurrection and Animate Dead banned) but it's just illogical to me that you can suddenly cast level 3-5 spells without having Wisdom, same with the heroes starting with level 3-4 spells without the appropriate Wisdom.
But I guess that's enough about that topic for now.

Use your fantasy! It is a fantasy game after all .

Solomyr just started as a student, as a child while he was swimming he was surprised by a lightning storm. He quickly left the water as the lightning struck the water eith a devastating blast. He was so surprised by the power of lightning he studied it for years. Now he surpasses even the most talented wizards with his love for electricity.

Yes i know this is bogus....but thats the beauty of this game, you can make up a lot of it by yourself

It's a trap plotted by designers: they wanted to know how many noobs will fail by recruiting Solmyr, Aislin and Deemer.

I'd personally pick Aine for the extra money and then hope to find a better main later. But that's not to say that Solmyr isn't useful if you get him. You can always use his single chain lightning to take out some shooters in the beginning. And if there's a well placed fountain - and maybe even a early knowledge boosting artefact - this could make him circumstantially more useful. Later he might not prove a bad choice for a support hero that can help with collecting artefacts/creatures.

Of the Wizards I like Cyra and Solmyr. Daremyth and Theodorus are also decent. Aine is good for making money, which is important for Tower, but she is not main-hero material.
Of the Alchemists I would probably pick Neela as best hero and Rissa as support if I need mercury.
(For my own scenario I have redesigned some of the heroes so heroes with a spell-speciality start with the corresponding magic-school, usually at the expense of wisdom, this also makes AI slightly more challenging as they almost never pick magic-schools. Heroes starting with Eagle Eye, First Aid, Mysticism or Learning have gained an extra level in those skills, to make them less useless, can't wait for HotA to buff some of the more useless skills though)
But the above opinion is based on the default heroes.

I'd like that idea! Finally something quite "useless" for the Quests... at least if it work out...

Are there plans on making fire magic more on par with other schools?

Fire works well, water needs a buff imho. It already lacks 1 spell vs other schools and the lvl3-5 spells kinda suck all, only one good spell is prayer. In total I frequently use at max 7 spells from water line. Bless, Cure, Dispel, Weakness, Mirth,  Clone, Prayer. Maybe this could change if the spells would be reworked a litte.

Depends on Mapseed, lately I played a lot of "uber" maps from RNG with tons of lvl6-7 creatures, lvl7 dwellings and relics on it... On a map like this you could ban wisdom quite easy but its rare.

Jebus cross never worked for me (at least in wog) never tried to create jebus in hota.

Neela > Rest (on big maps), If you play with HD Mod -> Orrin

Water Magic is good, try expert Forgetfulness, Teleport (On Ancient Behemoths, Chaos Hydras or Dendroid Soldiers for example) and Summon Water Elemental.
On water-heavy maps Summon Boat and Water Walk are essential.
(And then there is Magic Arrow and Visions, which belongs to all schools)

Besides it is Fire-school that lacks a spell compared to the others.

But if Dimension Door, Fly and Town Portal are allowed there would never be a reason to choose Water or Fire Magic.

Never used Forgetfulness, it only triggers 50% and when armies are great enough do be a thread, I fly directly to ranged units, no need to use that spell. Teleport maybe for dendons but they are slowed or blinded always so the spell round will always be -> dispel instead of teleport. Water Walk only works if you already know the terrain else its quite useless, summon boat could be useful but I never play water maps. They suck somehow. Maybe with some more water objects, I'll recheck, actually I hate water terrain.

Umm? I'm just a noob, but I always thought air and earth are the things you are looking for, and water is 3rd "best" school you can get.

I mean, you already listed 7 good water spells you're using, but what makes fire magic worth picking? Fire has no adventure spell, blind does not need  expert fire magic to be effective, berserk and arma are situational? Misfortune is better in hota, but still not worth casting, and there's better ways to make opponent to deal 50% of normal damage.

At expert water magic, forgetfullness is 100% against all shooters.....so quite nice. Cure/despell is kinda essential imo so water aint that bad.

As for fire. Curse is actualy pretty strong and frenzy/berserk can be good. But yes, overall worst class
