I want to thank HOTA team for presenting us with such wonderful gift for the New Year!
But I worry about something-am I the only one who think big pictures made the first 3 pages look very large to read normally?

Quite right. But it should be true Homm Complete. Not an optimized build of any kind.

Quote: Right now with HotA I was expecting for some top notch water areas... (maybe I have not found the right map yet).
I was ecpecting a very, very small starting area (in extremis only your castle on a rock), with water sorrounding it with some rich pathways in it, leading to 3-4 small sized islands and "continent(s)".
Such a map will put to good use all the water related content implemented in the game already.
For now we just made water a bit more versatile for custom maps. We did not finish our work with it, there is still a lot to be done. As a final result - some day, hopefully, random maps with water will become playable and interesting. But it is not the highest priority task for the mod

Fair enough.
I only had one crash yesterday and it happened when I came back from alt-tabbing. I loaded the autosave and the bug didn't reproduced, so I finished the map without problems.
Today I'll try a bigger map though.

I encountered a few crashes [first, when entering Town Hall to build sth, but it disappeared (at least for now) after installing a newer HD mod, and then an in-battle crash], but it's okay, because Heroes III is a game that restarts in about 3 seconds (old-school games you rule!), so it's not a biggie.
All in all a titanic work from HotA team, a true expansion-like mod which could've been a true expansion pack back in the days of old.
I'll probably play HotA some more after I finish my current games (not that much time to play I'm afraid...).
PS: Nice touch with "living" units on the battlefield. Now they animate a little all the time, not only after you move a cursor onto them.
XXXXXX
PS 2: I have a big request for HotA team. You guys seem to be visiting this forum often so... I know that Cathedral (if possible) is a melody of the future, but is it possible for you to at least release (maybe in a hotfix or the next patch?) the Chimera unit (and it's upgrade) as a neutral one? I'm in love with the design, and maybe it's not that big of a deal for you guys, I mean the model is already done...
Pretty please?

Is there any way to replace certain cove units sounds? For example: kill sounds - they lack "falling body" effect, so I've made some tweaks and now I wish I could hear my modified sound effects in game. Putting sound files in Data and Common(HD) folders won't work... Is it even possible right now? If not, will it be possible to mod in future?
Also, I think Nix/Nix warriors and Sea serpents/Haspids are moving WAY to slowly in comparision to the rest of the Cove units. I don't mean animation speed, but the amount of time to get from point A to point B on battlefield. That's my little suggestion, but if HotA crew won't do it, I would like to do it myself. Again - possible?
One last thing.
Game regards ballista as lvl 5 unit and cannon as lvl 6 unit. Yet in hero speciality descriptions balista is described as lvl 4 and cannon as lvl 5. This needs correction.
Also, few crashlogs:
http://pastebin.com/SPDffujg
http://pastebin.com/qbHDGnX4
http://pastebin.com/QXc7YJmy
http://pastebin.com/LxtzkNEV
http://pastebin.com/SFwneC45
Crashes happened randomly - while making random map, on a battlefield, entering town... crashed didn't repeat after loading game.

Yes Nix move too slow in comparison to other units. (Or maybe they just make too many small steps?). They move a lot like the speared lizards from King of Dragons.
So nobody streaming HotA?

Unfortunately, we have nothing on any of new units, including chimera. A long time ago we just had some basic animation, but that's all.
About sounds - don't know, maybe it is possible with some manipulation with original files, not an expert in that
About speeds - you have 5 speed options to choose, isn't it more than enough not to be embarassed by any unit speeds? I usually play on 4-5 speed and it seems all right. But I will tell the team about the suggestion
About streams - I was streaming HotA back in the days, but too busy now for that (www.twitch.tv/lavadragon). It is mostly russian Heroesworld players that stream heroes 3, and we haven't revealed ourselves to them yet (officially). Getting into that professional community was planned after all the bugfixes for 1.3

I strongly agree here. In the original game it was easily fixable by editing cranim.txt, but I don't know where it is now...

But with speed options you will speed up ALL the units on battle field. And that tool is used to speed up animation speed, I don't want that. I want Nix/Nix Warrior and Serpents/Haspids to move faster on battlefield (not changing their speed statistic, only visual movement speed). Right now it looks rather... hmm.. "silly". Like they're sliding on ice.

if you mean what i think you do, you can extract the def from whatever .lod it's stored in, open the def in h3deftool, and cut the moving frames by half.
if you mean the actual animation speed, then you can edit the cranim.txt, only for that creature. i had to edit my cranim.txt, to make the mutant zombies that i redid for h3 move correctly.

I have something I'd like to mention.
I love the fact that there's new set items, I always loved that part of the game, however, I feel that the resistance set item is somewhat lacking.
Part of the appeal of set items in HoMM3 is that they usually grant some special bonus separate from the items composing the set. Like how the archery set item would remove all archer penalties. Or how the necromancy set item raises skeletons as Zombies/Wights/Liches.
Magic Resistance set item just adds another res bonus, which seems somewhat...boring.
How about having it make units immune to certain hostile spells? Or maybe making it cast Mass Magic Mirror at the beginning of the fight? It shouldn't be vastly overpowered (considering how common it seems to be, I gathered 3 of them in one map). But something cooler than a generic resistance bonus would be great.
Also, Royal Armor of Nix+Crown of the Five Seas+Trident of Dominion+Shield of Naval Glory should totally make a set item.

I know that conventional methods don't work.

No you did not understand. Animation speed is ok. *movement* speed is not ok.
There is no cranim.txt in HotA files.

yeah, i found that out. sorry. i wonder why they didn't keep it? seems a shame to stop someone from being able to set things how they like it. i guess to slim down the number of issues that could be reported later?
