I guess the feeling is 'if you know enough to have found out about this mod you should know that'.

Dear HotA team, I have a request (I hope a reasonable one)

How about adding one more option in RMG - to completely ban Creature Banks? I consider them to be very much the biggest game-changers and with adding new types of them by your team I'm afraid that their density will greatly increase. I suppose it might turn into Angel/Wyvern/Firebird/Cyclops farming race with armies consisting in 95% of bank-acquired monsters.

It could be done with a add-on dll for HD mod, I guess. For example, the HW-rulez dll provides addition interface options like removing all obelisks from generation.

At the moment however, I'd say Cove is a tiny bit OP. There really isn't any good counter to Sea Dogs in the early- to midgame. I also perceive the dwellings as bit cheap in comparison to the creatures they produce. Play a game with Tower and feel the discrepancy.

I'm eagerly awaiting the following two towns, especially the Cathedral.

it s OP to play with jeremy. Anyway, with jeremy, cannon statistics are 4X stronger than a ballista, with a random hero it s one cannon is twice stronger. Regards to the army who is not so strong at start as you mention it s not a problem. It s a problem cause Jeremy is the main caracter...

As I have said in the past I am a HUGE fan of your mod and I appreciate that the developers put so much work and effort into this and for no charge.

Having said that however, I must say there is no need to insult people who ask questions like this. These answers may seem obvious to you (as someone on the development team, correct?) and possibly even to most end users but a simple "Right click on the skill to get a description." is FAR more effective than what you in effect said which was basically: 'What are you too stupid to figure this out?!'.

Hm. I don't see anything insulting in such kind of irony. Either I don't get the question, or it is really that obvious. My answer shows that uncertainity quite well, I think

P.S. Though, there is clearly some cultural gap between people from different countries. I've already seen a few times how a phrase that would be considered just a friendly joke for one community was taken as a direct insult in another...

Sry, forgot to answer that post. Sea dogs - is the one and only striking stack in Cove army (if not to mention Haspids). They are, of course, quite powerful by damage, but are easily countered because of low hp. Tower is actually the top 1 weakest town, so, it is no surprise that it's raw power is weaker than Cove's, which is probably in top 2-4 towns now.

As for Cathedral and new towns - no new towns are planned for any plannable future. Which means that even if any of those will be released one day, it's still FAAAR from today.

First post on this site. I love HoMM and I love this fanmade expansion. Great job!

I've been playing HoMM since I was 8 years old, and I'm now 20. I completed all maps too many times to count including all campaigns and many custom made maps by fans. I don't consider myself a bad player, but neither an expert like many on this forums probably are.

However, campaign 2 (I'm on laptop right now, don't remember the name of it), second map, is way beyond hard. It says 'hard' in the description, but the difficulty is more like expert or impossible. I mean, you start vs. 3 other teams who are alliances. They can fully build their castles, and you can't even upgrade your town hall. Neither can you build anything above lvl 5 creatures. How is that possible??
And once they start figuring out where your castle is (that I had to protect, they will constantly try to attack it whenever I'm roaming.

Could someone pls explain to me how to deal with this? Imo you should change the difficulty to be easier or atleast tooltip it as expert/impossible...

Hi Quinzi, I'm probably at the same average skill level as you and I hade an extremely difficult time with campaign 2 (Evenmorn).

I played that scenario 30 times with different openings, and came close to winning several times but those damn Fortress heroes Drakon or Merist would always take SacredCove with their massive armies.

I had some success with taking the Dungeon and Necropolis towns early and building up an army of Vampires.  I also tried recruiting a Diplomacy hero from that adventure map tavern (near the subterranean gate) but both attemps eventually ended with Drakon stomping me into the ground.

So I knew I had to take care of Fortress early.  I eventually succeeded by recruiting Captain or Navigator heroes from that adventure map tavern and giving those creatures to Jeremy.  I got pretty lucky with artifacts which Casemetra rounded up and also gave to Jeremy.  Then I upgraded Jeremy's troops and attacked Fortress at the end of Week 3. Drakon wasn't home when I took his town but he attacked on the next turn... I barely survived thanks to the Fortress Defences and the rest of the map was an easy mop up!

I hope that helps you in some way.  I'm actually gald there isn't a walkthrough yet because it's forcing me to try new things.  But I know exactly how frustrated you are right now!

This site may help a little with future HoTA campaings;

Thanks a lot! I actually got quite far myself. Got to capture the undergroudn castle as quick as I could. It saved me a lot of money, but eventually I would lose it. I went to the Dragon Utopia asap as well, and was quite lucky with artifacts. It was all going very well until they discovered my island, which they would try to take whenever I was away. I could beat most of their heroes even with my weak army due to magic (got a book of fire), just blinding them and summoning fire creatures.

But after ~15 hours of different saves, this was my closest attempt. I don't know, maybe it is possible if I go back to an early saved game of that very game. Not really worth it though, I think I'll try to go with your strategy instead. Sounds better to get rid of the south-west castle asap rather than the underground. Ty! =)

Sorry for the double-post, but I finally made it by using your tactics! Worked like a charm!

In my first attempt I took the green castle (south-west), but unfortunately I was too slow to get back, and the purple team took my castle. But at the second attempt I was very lucky and got a great artifact from those in the sea (the one giving +4 dmg +4 defense), and this time I was faster too. That helped me make it back, which changed the course of the rest of the game. Eventually got to take the north-east castle, and from here it was easy. Finished after 4 months 2 weeks. Thanks a lot dude! By far the biggest challenge for me in HoMM, couldn't just quick-game battles. Every move and battle had to count. Pretty awesome, but also a bit frustrating at times.

Hi all, my first post here. First off, I'd like to thank all people involved in the HotA project. I know it goes without saying, but you've done a great job.

I have a question regarding RMG. I like to play G-sized (me vs one CPU player) maps with strong monsters, no water and no underground. Is it me, or the majority of maps generate using "Twenty Five" template? It even seems like when picking particular towns (Cove for example), the RMG will use this template only. Correct me if I'm wrong, but that's my observation so far.
Why is that? Personally I find this template most boring of the bunch, for example "Betlehem" is much more fun to play, with hordes of 7-leveled creatures and stuff. It would be nice to be able to choose the template (or at least ban "Twenty Five"). Right now I have to generate random map dozen times to get the right template.

Cheers

That's awesome Quinzi!  A key point which may help someone else is using your tavern heroes to collect items and trading everything at the south-east Trading Post so you can buy creatures right before you head out to conquer Fortress.

And a big thankyou to the HoTA team for this professional mod!  Everything from the Cove town music, snout-nosed Orcs and challenging maps all capture the spirit of HoMM perfectly like NWC and 3DO still exist!

And I've seen this bug mentioned before but the south-west corner of the underground in Evenmorn map doesn't connect/allow access to the Gorgon lair.

Yojo2  If you download the HD Mod you can easily select any template from the in-game Random Map Setup screen. (Edit: Actually, I can't find any G-sized templates in that drop down list, maybe in the next HoTA or HD release)

Yeah, none of the G templates are present on the dropdown list. I reckon that these are extra templates supplied with the HD mod and not the HotA templates themselves. I could be wrong though.

On the second thought maybe that should be suggestion for HD mod, not HotA

There are some G-size templates in the list (like Nostalgia XXL), but not a lot. Probably more will come shortly. However, if you want to be able to specify the list of templates from where a template will be randomly chosen, you can manually edit rmg.txt file in Data folder and delete all unnecessary ones.

Having a blast with HOTA thank you so much to the creators!

Yeah I agree that map is extremely difficult. A problem I ran into was that the Fortess player has a huge army and somehow has that artifact which lets him walk on water. The next map is really fun.
I ended up trading places with the CPU and took all three of his fully built inferno towns and he took all 3 of my crippled Cove towns.

It was a good trade for me.

Platform and installing
The whole modification is created by reverse-engineering Shadow of Death files. So, HotA is to be installed on top of clean Heroes III: SoD or Complete edition. We do not guarantee stable work on any “optimized builds” or with mods that can change original game files (except for HD mod, which is 100% compatible). The modification surely will not work on AB, RoE or WoG. No ERM (or other script language) support is available.

Hello guys, I have a question about Cove's Grotto building... it says that you can use it to sacrifice creatures or artifacts,
but I've been playing a lot and every single time I can just use it for creatures and not for artifacts.
So am I missing something? Thanks!

Once you enter the Grotto with a visiting hero, use the button above the "exit button".  This toggles between sacrificing "Creatures" and "Artifacts".
