AI is ALWAYS being worked on. It doesn't get a 'highlight' so much but we have people dedicated to this. The main goal is to make sure we don't have a 'cheating' AI which many games do (we don't) that's why things take longer.

Sounds good. But may be start from cheat AI? If it will look better then not cheated one. How do you think GO AI must be more complex then MMH not cheated AI? I think no.

But curious, are certain things better than H6 or worse? Example, AI.
Most people said the A.I. is dumb as a bag of rocks so worse I would say.

sadly, heroes 6 AI was way better than heroes 7. for me, heroes 6 on difficulty "hard" was more challenging than heroes 7 on difficulty "heroirc" when the games were released

H6 AI was cheating. But I would always go with cheating but challenging AI, instead stupid AI that seems to be present in H7.

H5 sim turns with the possibility of restarting them if the conditions are met again sounds like the ideal situation, aye?

in fact this already exists in a Heroes 5 mod thanks to the fantastic efforts of Deflaktor, so nothing in the entire multiverse can excuse the ignorance of the supposed professionals at Ubilimb lol

Gomaki, could you please ask if implementation of sim turns in such a manner could be possible:
JollyJoker said:

A) HoMM 5 way:
+ people can play through opponent(s)'s combats.
- SimTurns stop once and for all once human opponents are "near" each other.

and "near" would be  defined as such:

It is just a matter of the game detecting at the start of the turn if possible conflicts are possible (heroes can meet or objects property or potentially porperty of a hero can be visited by an enemy). If not, then everything is simultaneous, otherwise it is turn based.

I dont care about multiplayer But the fact that the Engine (not UT, I guess they mean their framework built around UT) is inherently incapable of handling sim turns is surprising...

The engine was their excuse in H6 too for not giving us a random map generator.

The incompetence is too high here around the Heroes franchise, even in programming, design, community management etc.

Heroes 5, was released in 2006 and there is simultaneous turns in it.

Heroes 6, don't has simultaneous turns ("because of engine"), but after we had it in H5 everybody demands it.

Heroes 7, now here we are, 2015. It don't has simultaneous turns (the one what is in the game is not simultaneous), and now again """because of engine""" it will never have.
After Heroes 6 has problems (it has until now!) with multiplayer you release Heroes 7 with almost the same problems?

Are you kidding me guys?

When you start to plan the game you didn't even think about it?
You didn't realise that this is not simultaneous?
How is this possible, after Heroes 6 demands?
How is this possible with the community reviews?
Nobody said that maybe this wouldn't be good?
Or you just don't give a sh*t?

On Shadow Council (but if you shut it down we will find a nother way) some said (and many joined) that UBI need some community lawsuit, because this is FRAUD. You misleaded your customers to buy your product with false informations.
I really hope that in the EU there is some bureau who could find a way to punish you with a serious fee, and it will be a precedent for all developers that they can't do anything with their costumers and release unfinished Products, collect the money with fraud for it, then let it unfinished (they did it with Heroes 6)

I don't want my money back (at least not now), I want UBI to be punished for this.

A look to metacritic helps getting things into perspective:

For HoMM 5 we have:
this here:
77 meta and 7.9 user. More importantly: NO negative meta, more than double as many positive than mixed, more than 50% positive users, and about equally as many mixed as negatives.

Then we have M&MH6:
This here:
The same 77 on meta, but only 6.0 users. No negative meta and more than thrice as many positive than mixed (which means in comparison with its predecessors that the positives were not as positive than for 5), however, with users there are roughly as many positives as negatives, with a slight plus on positives, but both have more than double figures of mixed: stronger polarization of users.

With M&MH7 we have:
This here:
A 67 on meta and a 5.0 from users, making it a full 10% lower on both counts. For Meta it means, a third is positive, 2 thirds mixed with a few of the mixed thinking it's so mixed that it's actually negative. With the users, 50% is actually negative, while there still are some mixed. Only about 35% are positive here.

There is obviously a clear regression here - I mean, if H6 is mostly seen as a questionable game in terms of success, overall approval and appeal, and long-term impact, then what are we to think of H7? Maybe it's a bit early to make this call, but there is no full expansion in sight that could add a faction (which was for HoMM 5). In the works is a campaign DLC with additional neutral units, I think, plus obviously a lot of fixes and adding of things that should have been in the release.

At this point, the game has all the earmarks of what could be called a serious failure, if you ask me.

Oh, just as a topping - we also have a metacritic page of course for H3 HD version here
A 65 for meta and a 4.1 on users. Oh dear - not that there haven't been warnings enough for that one as well...

Now consider that HoMM4 a really not THAT well received HoMM game, comes with an 84 meta and a 7.5 user, and things take a decidedly more disastrous turn.

I think, when you make a good game (H5) expectations rise for the next. Obviously H6 couldn't deliver - which means expectations for H7 were raised yet again (they should get it now, having good and bad game examples). Now, H7 obviously doesn't deliver either, adding disappointment.
The actual truth imo is, that H6 and H7 are not as good as H5, however the H7 failure is more seriously felt (one step back is always a possibility, but two in a row?).

Successor games are reviewed for two factors: quality/experience (in comparison) and similarity/new twists). The more SIMILAR the successor is, the more quality/experience gain must be there to justify the game. On the other hand, if the game comes with a sufficiently different angle, comparisons are more difficult, and the the comparison is less important.
The H6 problem with H6 was, that the "different angle" didn't quite work out plus the content was fairly limited, so H6 left everyone somewhat "short of" more or less everything.
The problem with H7 is, the game should feel better than H5/H3, trying to be similar, keeping the different angles very small - but here the problem is, it doesn't feel better, but instead "falls short of its intended target": if you go for a "best of", the game MUST come out as "best game experience in the series" or you failed to reach your target.

The conclusion is pretty darn obvious, and I wonder how that must feel for UbIc and the people involved in making the game - after all they still have to work on that mutt of a game that wanted to be a thoroughbred to make it halfway decent and playable - reading all that negative feedback and all. Not easy to keep it going, I imagine...

they have no one to blame but themselves and their bosses. but hey, it's a job, right? in that line of work, you don't quit when you don't get your way. you just do what you're told.

which is why i'm not getting into that field of work. be damned if i'll ever have to work on something i could never feel true to, especially at the hands of a boss who doesn't know what he's doing, and execs who are just out for the money-grab.

Just so it seems like i'm not dodging questions.. I am now having long internal and external discussions regarding this. I received some 'miss information' in some regards and got sped up on other things. This topic is certainly not as entirely closed or 'final' as I was led to believe.
Watch this space regarding SimTurns.

ah yes, nothing is ever *really* final when the oh so pungent smell of a class action lawsuit over fraud is in the air, is it lol

I wonder how many other clever design decisions could have been averted if not for the unbelievably incompetent public and internal communication playing out in front of us, although even then we'd still need halfway decent programming for it to make any difference, alas for lost utopia lol

I am not under that impression gomaki and it's not a personal comment, but every time something new is revealed about the way Ubilimb as a group approaches the Heroes franchise, it only further justifies what I've been saying all along, that we simply have the wrong team for the job lol

I guess they changed Sim Turns

(Implemented) When another player starts a combat in sim turns, there is now a 3 seconds window in which you get notified about it and can still finish whatever you are currently doing.

Increased cooldown of Dragon Vein from daily to weekly.

Excuse me but this is not wanted change! In my hardcore map a mage needs to visit it at least twice if the player is smart. Not all mages have access to Soul harvest = infinite mana ya` know. Any possibility for mapmakers to set the dragon vein cooldown?
