Eh, the standards have dropped somewhat after H4. I am aware that the H4 music was not created by Rob and Paul but it was the last heroes with consistently good music. Since H5 there have been a number of hit or misses and one too many remixes.

Not created by them? Hm...I thought some Limbic/Ubisoft gentle(wo)men had said they needed to obtain the rights or a form of permission from them to use H4 tracks in the Lost Tales of Axeoth campaigns . If the Wikipedia page of H4 is right, there were four composers working on the soundtracks: Romero, King, Baca (who had been there for H3 as well) and a Paul James. Makes me wonder who did what...

The remix party is more evident in H6 than anywhere else atm. H7 just plainly copies tracks (from H6) and uses them where they don't belong. Not that I consider remixes to be bad, though. It reminds one of the old times and makes the track recognizable. But using a siege theme for a normal forest terrain battle (for example) is not the right thing to do imo.

I wish there were as many tracks as H5, which had music for basically everything (terrain, campaign, battle, hire screen, tavern, town, dwellings, AI turn, siege, heroes etc etc), and most of the time also faction-specific. I miss that in H7.

I will just say that to me the Heroes 7 score was without a doubt the most uninspired score King and Romero ever delivered for a Heroes game.

i'd be uninspired too, if i were either of them. it'd be like performing for a tyrant king who'd rather listen to himself fart.

My apologies, I meant that Paul, Rob and Bacca worked on existing music.

I disagree about H7 music being unispired, it has some very beautiful tracks. And what they did with the elven coronation was interesting, whether one likes it or not. Many of the songs have some of that old charm that H6 missed. In a few years I will remember H7 songs but I barely remember anything from H6 right now.

Ps two of my favourites aren't even from Rob and Paul: sea and forest theme.

I think the lack of environmental sounds(sawmill, oremine, leprechaun, etc...) much like the uninspired combat sounds as well as the clickety-clacking of the UI simply ruin the atmosphere that any music could create.
The songs themselves are rather good even if not THE best.

A powerful faction thrives on a powerful track. This one may start jolly, but at least it catches up near the end . The H6 Stronghold theme does the opposite by starting powerful. It shows both the strength of Stronghold and its spirit. Still, I think H5's Fortress theme has a power that even exceeds Stronghold's (at least in that game).

Guess you haven't played it enough . Kidding. I may not play Heroes games as often as I used to, but at least I have the music with me wherever I go. Allow me to show you some of my H6 favs, so you won't forget entirely about them.

I don't think they composed the adventure map music lol

is all from a music sample CD called The Complete Celt in 1999, they ripped it and just barely remixed it, tweaking instruments basically, check out here all the tracks are there barely different lol

it's beautiful music, I love the guys and wish they composed it to give them credit, but, well, they didn't lol

Heroes VII music is at the very top of soundtracks. There is just a few game soundracks that can rival HVII.

"Hey all just to pitch in here that patch 1.7 didn't contain any AI upgrade (I did even state this publicly) . 1.8 and on is when you see the AI start ramping up .VIPs have already been able to play with is and have reported it's stronger, not perfect but much stronger.

Things you'll see the AI now doing come 1.8 onwards.

In Combat
Using Wait
Using Creature Abilities
Improved targeting (no longer can you do single stacks to bait attacks)
Better use of hero spells.

Adventure map
Not buying as many heroes as early (will still buy more then a typical player but this is to be expected)
Better resource acquisition
Generally more aggressive, it will push players areas with 'Deadly' armies much quicker.
Better city build order.

All this stuff is ALREADY in my internal build and i'm playing with it, it still needs work ironing out some combat type exploits but we're more than aware of them and will have it fixed before it's pushed live.
Remember our AI doesn't cheat, we could have made it just double it's army size every week and have increased growth rate, but this would get tiring."

Gomaki posted it on ubiforum yesterday.

When you say 'few game', do you mean Heroes game, or any other game?

I've listened H7's soundtrack, but I didn't find it that epic. I guess it is down to the personal preference.

H7 Town themes are easily the best of Ubi Heroes, at least on average (H5 was a mixed bag of great and terrible themes, H6 were just unispiring). However, the overall small amount of tracks and outright using H6 tracks makes H7 soundtrack rather weak.

That doesn't help either, but it comes to show how under-funded, uninspired and out-of-place this game is. A far cry from H5 & H6 productions.

Music
As Stormgiant, I think H7 has the best town themes so far, but that's all. There is maybe one or two more songs I like on the adventure map.

But tell me, why both H5&H6 had 50+ songs and H7, although being not a smaller game than these two, have only cca 20 songs. This makes the game experience much worse. There are three things I can see on Ubi tried to save as much money as possible on this game: council scenes, reused units and the music (but you can ofc find more). I cannot understand why they had to save money even on music...

Back to spells and natalka's question
I think this possibility would make a game even less random than it is and as mentioned before, you could pick the same spells every time and you would never have to change them (if not forbidden for some faction).
This could also become similar to terrible H6 system.

I like the idea of the perk in skillwheel which improves ceratin spell should also learn you this spell but you should be able to learn this spell in magic guild too. Otherwise, the situation would be very close to H6 again.

I must say that in my personal opinion the one thing HVII did right was the soundtrack. I love almost every faction theme to death. Even the Orc and Elven ones (although they pale in comparison to Necro's).
