Which is why I advocate resources like Petroleum.

So, Dragonblood Crystal, Starsilver, Shadowsteel, Dragonsteel...
I have a feeling I'll refer to them as crystals, silver, steel and steel.
Seems a bit weird that you can mine steel but then again; we've had buildings made of crystals.

That only applies to Shadowsteel, but I agree. The names are lackluster and could have been chosen better.

As we already have normal steel from (iron)ore, I think it is more like crystal, silver, magic steel and super magic steel

Yes, they should've called it stainless steel, that was left from the time of the shantiri empire, when people were obviously better at metallurgy

Betcha starsilver is like Haven's special source. Ya know, blessed silver to vanquish the undead/demons and that troupe.

Seems to me, it's gonna be Crystals.
Starsilver, as per the description, is used very much by Sylvan and Academy. Shadowsteel is used a lot by Fortress and Dungeon. And Dragonsteel is outlawed by the Empire, therefor.....

Stevie said: I don't think the reputation system was that bad but I don't want it back either. Alternative hero builds shouldn't come like such an obvious choice, but through clever personal development, trying to get the skills that offer you a certain synergy or combo.
Yes exactly, but also developing your hero based on what you have at your disposal regarding spells, artifacts, etc. There should be different builds you go for each time you play the game (even if you have the same class of hero and faction). This adds to replayability. And random skill choices conversely help here too (eg. I was offered Fire magic skill so I am going to now go for that Artifact that increases fire magic spells).
Being able to choose your skill development with full control is IMO boring.

I'll say more than boring. Is a major alteration of Heroes gameplay formula. For me is a big excitement wondering what will pop up, how will I go this time. I don't think in advance how my hero should be, the adventure tells me...

Full control over perks and skills are in my opinion a very bad choice. A Heroes game must have some sort of randomization, as each game gets different based on the skills you end up with. I hope they reconsider.

Limbic will regret the decision to have an all pick system. I hope it won't come as a surprise to them because the fans are already voicing their disapproval, both on the blog and on the community forums. A vote on this would have been great, but my fear is that it's already hard coded and there's little that can be done at this point.

I bet during Early Access people will complain and their response will be "it's too late to change that".
An expansion could be used to correct that, but it'd be lame to wait for an expansion to have a proper skill system

Maybe this skill system will be better than the Heroes VI one. The ideea isn't bad, it has to offer a little more replayability and the implementation has to be good enough.

If they randomize it, imho it should come with a market of time or similar object, where you can forget some completely useless skills if so. In h3 it happened to me way too many times that I've been offered to choose from two totally unusuable skills. ( playing random map without water against ai 1:1 and the game offers me to choose from eagle eye and NAVIGATION... )

Yes but this was already improved in H5 by getting 4 proposals instead of 2. IMO the classic skill system requires fixing, not such drastic change.

In my experience you would hardly receive a useless skill as soon as you learnt how to direct your skill choices. Knowing that an existing skill upgrade was always offered allowed you 2 x (number of existing skills) options to avoid bad offers, which was more than enough in most cases.
Of course you couldn't always get what you wanted (though in the end you would probably get it if it was possible/probable for your class), and there were key moments in which chances of receiving something bad were higher, but that precisely was the fun of it.
