How exactly can someone tell what each class is good at? Ok the first probably has fire which maybe makes it more offensive? Rune LORD probably has more management abilities as a lord? Or does that refer to his rune abilities? Can a subclass even have a better focus at the racial than the rest?

What a mess.. Everyone will remember them as aggressive/middle/defensive runelord anyway. Why should anyone bother memorizing arbitrary class names? With that in mind why not just have one class and give you an option on startup what your focus will be, with offensive focus making offense pop up more frequently than defensive etc. In the same vein why not pick 4 elements of your choice on startup, making them the only magic skills that will appear on your levelups.

If we're gonna bother memorizing classes, they should at least be advanced classes..
Bit late to start with it NOW, right? You'll probably remember my rants well - mostly about the fact that factions now have six heroes whose characteristics no one can't memorize, but you still can't have a Haven hero with Earth Magic, for example.
I still don't understand how someone could have such an atrocious idea, not to mention find it good enough to put it into the game.

Eh, probably. Now if we had one class with 3 paths and ditched GM abilities in favour of H4-style advanced classes..

Speaking of H4, a combat skill would be interesting to revisit with the recent mechanics. Composed of heroic strikes, hero special abilities (like H5 mark of the damned, H6 pressed attack, H7 leading by example), amount of punishment the hero can receive before he stops attacking etc.

But we already have warmachines for that so it would be more or less redundant.

My guess? They wanted to keep something like the Tear and Blood system, hence why so many classes that are split into offense, balance and defense.

Combat skill was something I was also vehemently pushing for, because I don't see any reason to rob the magic heroes of one of their advantages (casting a direct damage spell), by giving every hero this idiotic hero attack for free, probably because someone said, people don't want to sit idle with their heroes, so you have to give them something.

Combat, in my suggestion, would give the hero a direct damage attack, with abilities being all those Mark of stuff and linking it to the attack of another creature and so on.
Redundant with War Machines? No, because it's an additional attack (and maybe even more).

I think, you are giving them too much credit. I mean, the idea of having templates for an offensive, defensive and governance hero is - I have to say that so drastically - showing, that they haven't understood the game: ATTACKER HAS THE ADVANTAGE, because there is no simultaneous retaliation (and no ranged retaliation). You had that both in H4, and in H4 you can say that both options are equally vaulable (at least, as long as you cannot avoid the simret).

Now, that means, that the offensive hero is always the right choice.

I also hated the hero attack. I thought the whole point was that the player IS the hero, commanding the army and what not.

It's totally possible to play offline...

The lie is that it's possible to play without Uplay, which they said would be a thing. But Uplay starts with game every time, even offline.

Sorry for the map/campaign/mod/whatever being in Czech only but for now I am not able to fully translate it to English. I will look for some kind person with the adequate skills and time to do so later.

TL;DR English version: It is (will be) a custom adventure (several maps or campaign - not yet decided) in Heroes VII settings "twisted" to my wild-mind There will be whole new faction (Xel) of ancient parasitic evil that mutated some of the fauna to new units.

-8 Xel units (2 already revealed: Scavenger, Mine Beatle)
-2 C'sura units (they are against Xels)
-1 neutral
-whole new world Mondalar (thanks to Lizz Ashan is already in trashcan )
-Dragon gods are there but they are not what they seem to be and you don't want to see their true form
-Sci-fi elements throughout the whole campaign

When I will have more info in English I will let you know in specific thread to not to spam this one.

PS: I will also release those as a "standalone" MOD (not just custom map) so you can enjoy it independently but it will take time.

PPS: I will take a short brake to see if there is something there in the expac that can be twisted to my needs Poor dwarvies...
