I can see it working with the centaur replacing the stormrage warrior as elite and a goblin filling its gap as core. Although this would mean the only difference with the H6 line-up is the pao-kai as champion... 
That necro line-up looks awesome

As for Stronghold, this is my dream lineup:
Core:
1. Minotaur - tank (Orcs freed them from Dark Elf slavery)
2. Harpy - fast/flying
3. Centaur - range
Elite:
4. Werewolf - fast
5. Shaman - buffer/magic/melee
6. Crusher - tank
Champion:
7. Ogre - tank/melee
8. Cyclops (orc that has X-men Cyclop's power) - magic/range

Having a magic bird, a thunder bird and most likely also a phoenix might also be a bit too much in the bird department. Especially if they go with that blue moon phoenix again. Besides, Pao-kai are awesome

That doesn't mean they are both in Stronghold though.
I can believe Cyclops & Behemoth or Cyclops & Paokai. But given the trailer, I can hardly imagine them leaving the Cyclops out. And busting the Cyclops down to elite seems.....strange at the least.
So one of the Champions might be for Necro.

man, I really wish I cared to hear as much about the nitty gritty details of creature lineups as I do about strategic depth and consequence, innovations in the role of heroes, economy and the adventure map, competent AI, and most importantly a fun and addictive meta for once

Fates were probably one of the most original things they ever did to spice up the string of undead stereotypes. For the first time, I actually liked playing as the undead.
Though never been a champion unit, I wonder if troll might make a comeback as a ranged unit.

Fair enough. Agree with you, there are many other things to talk about. But instead of sounding passive aggressive, it would've been much more efficient had you actually just said whatever topic you specifically wanted to talk about, no?
