With all respect, this is sort of a moot point. As the discussion in the last page has already excellently shown, what the heart and soul of the game is differs to different players. Was H3 model best solution? H5 model might have been made to fit, had they made a "proper" Town Portal spell (where you could choose town) at level 5 as adventure magic, because then it would be free for all. But on bottom line, H6 model is not bad, because it's balanced for all players.
What I do hope is that there will be an option for "No Town Portal" when setting up a game, because it's such a single and isolated feature that can easily be turned off without affecting other parts of the game yet has such a huge impact on gameplay - that way, everybody can choose for themselves whether they want it or not.

Do you think we'll see some Fortress units as neutrals?
Can we hope that someday Ubi will listen to us and make dwarves and elves friends again and happy together in Rampart?
The main body of the army is more heavily armed and armoured. Elven cavalry is mostly light cavalry, again designed for speed and manoeuvrability over shocking power.
Elves with heavy armour? That's something new. And riders... pegasus riders? ![](images/smilies/tongue.gif)
It can be interesting, but I'm afraid that again there'll be too many elves and few beasts.

I agree. Dwarves have to be part of elfs or wizards city. One of the special things about heroes was that were now pure elf or wizard town, witch is boring, since all other fantasy game have it already.

We don't need Fortress neutrals. It's a given will get the whole faction in an expansion. Of course, that is if the vanilla game generates enough money. This whole voting thing is probably an only to help devs prioritize the factions...

Oops, I thought I read that losing factions in voting would not appear in expansion.

Don't forget about dungeon in Heroes VI. It was an elven town but there were only 2 units which were elves. In terms of Fortress situation can be similar - they may be much more diversed than in HoMM 5. The same situation with Sylvan - they had in Ashan access to deers, bears (they would rather apeear in Fortress) (in CoH), ents and dragons - so assuming that all four will be present in MM:H 7, we have only three slots left, which isn't that much, therefore you don't have to worry about diversity.

no no.. Dwarves shouldn't be part of Academy or Sylvan. I love the idea that it is its own faction. Dwarves are cool They deserve their own nation.
Personally, I love H5 Fortress. The only problem I have with it is that its city looks so boring.
Anyway, I was just looking at the Discover Sylvan article:

And this gives me a little idea about the lineup:
I guess core has:
1. Scouts I don't like the name. They should stick with Bladedancers. Scout is a generic name.
2. Skirmisher Yet another generic name. Hunter is much much better. Hunter name also fits since hunters are known for traps also.![](images/icons/icon14.gif)
It also has light cavalry or I guess Riders? It's not mentioned if they are core or elite. Riders are horse archers. For a minute there, I thought we're gonna have a Rome Total War Hastati type of unit wherein the very first attack, they'll throw projectile weapons at close range before engaging in a melee fight.

About half a year after H7 release:
Limbic: "Great news gamers! Because we received such a fantastic feedback in the vote from You, we decided to include Fortress/X faction in our incoming H7 expansion!"
Of course it depends on how well the game will sell, but I wouldn't be so sure about this "the faction which will lose the vote, won't make it into the game" thing...
I think they want to somehow appease the fans (I hope that really is the case) by making us feel more "influential" when it comes to the games design...
PS: Also, I've read somewhere that they already have design plans for each faction (which is logical if the games been in the making for about a year).

But why Heroes should be typical fantasy game and not what it was? No dwarfs and elfs as separate towns is something that grad us the chance to use the "free space" for new and unique towns, that are unseen/rare for other series.

For me, I will rather see coherent towns than unique towns. I understand that that is an individual matter of taste, but the Elf/Dwarf combination was something that always grated on me.

I think the icons don't look the part, in all honesty. I consider them too large and there's too much space around them. I realise they're just place holders, so I hope they'll not only make better looking ones, but also put more on a single page.
I consider this to be akin to Heroes3 vanilla and with the HD mod; the latter puts more spells on a single page, which doesn't only make each page look better but also reduce the number of actions you have to take to scroll through your spellbook.
