Cool, updating news topic

Oh, and this comes also from the news feed:

A sneak preview by Gamer.no (Norwegian)
Google translate version

Most of the information in the article has been mentioned already, except:
- War machines will get a new twist (exactly what is not yet revealed)
- Some battles could have other objectives than killing all enemies [From the context I'm assuming they are talking about single tactical battles]

Just like Sylvan before it, much of the Fortress info is rehashed Compendium material, save for the Kaspar flavortext, obviously.

As for the Norwegian Article, the new twist to the warmachines was very much implied when we datamined the Warfare units and they turned out to be warmachines, but it's nice to get confirmation.
As for the interactive object on the battlefield, I like the idea, but I'd like to see how that works first. HeroesVI and King's Bounty both did similar things and then there were aspects about it I liked and aspects I disliked.

But why Heroes should be typical fantasy game and not what it was? No dwarfs and elfs as separate towns is something that grad us the chance to use the "free space" for new and unique towns, that are unseen/rare for other series.

If that was the case, then the town folk of dwarves and elves would worship Sylkath (a mix between Sylanna and Arkath)

There is no problem one state to be populated by nations/persons with different religion in RL, so what this is a problem in fantasy game? There are many muslims in Europe (mostly continent with christians), but they don't worship mix between Jesus and Allah.

They’re not fond of representational art, preferring instead geometric patterns.
Love this one, iconoclastism is very rare in fantasy worlds.

I don't like not reading anything about beasts from the deep (other than fire things) used in dwarven armies; I don't want to see a giant dwarf ever again.

There are places in Ashan called "Free Cities" where I think among humans also representatives of other fractions live (I'm not sure, I have never played Dark Messiah). I think the reason for homogenous fractions lies in LoTR, a basis for design of nearly all fractions in Ashan and on Middle Earth the only place, where two different humanoid species lived side by side is Bree, which was barely ever involved in some kind of conflict (just like Free Cities).

Maybe in our modern, more civilized, society this is possible, but in the past (and large parts of africa/middle east) this was quite different. Countries had one religion (determined by the head of the country) and even different movements of the same religion fought each other. When a minor religion was accepted its followers were discriminated against and blamed when things went wrong (famine, disease, etc.).
I am not surprised that the factions in medieval Ashan are separated by religion. I am even pleased by the fact that there are different movements within the religions, making them a bit more diverse and flexible.

So from the text we can iron out a possibility of a Dwarven Ballista squad unit. Either a war machine or unit similar to the one from H4, but maybe with an operator this time? Other then that it seems that their line-up will once again be mainly "dwarfish"...

Don't forget Ashan Compendium artwork - the fire spirit, the big dwarf and a bear. Some of them, if not all, could make into the game.

But I hope they also have some kind of construct like the ballista squad.

Ballista is likely going to be a warmachine. A more likely choice would be a sharpshooter or an alchemist like in Kings Bounty. A canoneer would make the ballista as a warmachine obsolete so we probably won't have them.
And I can only hope we don't get any bears this time. That was a very stupis concept.

For the Dwarves, each new volcanic eruption is an important event, an opportunity to pay tribute to their Dragon-God Arkath. Many warriors volunteer to participate in a sacrificial ritual. Rune priests draw powerful symbols on their bare skin, to bind them to the sacred Fire. The volunteers them climb to the mouth of volcano at the moment of the blast.
The few Dwarves who survive the ordeal are fused with the elements of fire and stone. They are transformed into Fire Giants, colossal beings of basalt cracling with lava. When they return to their home cities, they are revered as heroes and the chosen of Arkath.

I would have done more than just vote for dwarves once if they were up against another faction.

In DM the free cities were populated by men and worshiped Elrath.

Its a fantasy world. If you like this is possible there. AND even in the ancient world there are examples for this. Like Pagan Bulgaria or Zoroastrian Persia.

Wrong: Populated by men, yes. Worshiping Elrath NO. The god of their choice was Ylath. Like if that little pesky girl did not told you several times. BtW that is the reason they left the empire and founded those cities, to not be forced to belive in one god chosen by one person, but to worship whoever they want.

And in MaM X the free cities like Karthal were populated by all races, from elves, to Dwarves, Men and Naga. So yea Free cities are cosmopolitan regions.

I think many ancestors of yours would like to speak to you on the topice of "Forcefull conversion" and "Crusades" even against the same religion who just thought it should be approched in a different way.
Yes it could work in "Some places" Like the mentioned free cities, not  in all places, espetcialy those under strict rule.

You can change their name, but they are still Dwarves. They are not a different race, a monsters, a beastmen, a spirit or a construct, they are stil Dwarves, just "upgraded".

You sure? In one chapter you visit some Elrath sanctuary to purify yourself.

I'm from Bulgaria. Pagan Bulgaria was friendly to different religions. And also you all got my point. Putting different nations with different religion in one fantasy place is possible. You cant say no. Its not the real world, and this is possible even in the real world. I already appointed where.
