u gotta be freakin' kidding me lol... 9/10? What's your criteria, man? I can't see even 6/10 here. Art is primitive.
How much these then (up to your criterias):
Shall I remind you the fact that some of the screens are from the browser game and h7 pretends to be an AAA project, huh?

Wow. I genuinely like current Haven's townscreen. It does certainly look good but still requires a little bit of polish (levitating drawbridge, I see...). Besided that, Town's building system is very likeable but please, change buildings' icons, especially the ones that do net serve as dwellings.
Speaking of Sempai's TS - second one is very pleasant.

I count and rate castles compared to those from the series, not some fan arts, photos or other games and frachises- otherwise it is always possible to find sth better
Besides, imo neither of those are better- thet are just some castles imitating eastern style but what about dwellings and fantasy elements? Cause otherwise they are a bit random. The irst as better lines but besides 2 buildings (stronghold itself and temple) it is not so special.
The second one has nice view and prsepcitvie but is not memorable. t least scenery s not bad but Iit will not sink deeply into the memory
For me joke is putting HoMM 5 castle with ugly faint colours, over the top buildings, bad scale and very weird placement and architecture. not to mention that is is rather Lord Farqart castle from 'Shrek' I hate it and for me even all HoMM 1 & 4 castles are a lot better than this

I agree with Jotun, that picture of Heroes V Haven is ugly.
If you wanted to promote H5 townscreen, you should have posted this, imo:
That being said, there's one that will remain the true Haven outlook for me.

@JotunLogi, it's not about comparing. You told "9/10 or even 9+/10" that means that this is too close to perfect piece of art. Even a blind one could notice countless flaws in this city both from the logical side and from art direction.
@Sligneris, first from the google, I didn't try to promote it. Every one knows how H5 town screen looked like, my picture was just a remind.
Guys, guys, guys, you are trying to justify that it is a normal thing that visuals from the game with 60 euro price are even comparable to browser free to play games? Mwahahhah that's sooooo silly. But continue. It's even fun to read lmao.

To be fair, HoMM 5 castle of Haven is the only one that is truly a town- protected by wall. Still, te castle itself is just way too big
Academy looks great but not too great? Honestly, it looksm more like render version or some hd edition cause in the game or screenshots the quality of textures is never so high
The picture ofYour dram Haven is really good, must admit, although it is even less a town, more like palace complex (even castle itself is more luxurious than defensive). But looks good, very good (but making this art would take so much time, not to menton adding all animations, building process, dwellings and so)
Edit:
"Guys, guys, guys, you are trying to justify that it is a normal thing that visuals from the game with 60 euro price are even comparable to browser free to play game"
I compeltely disagree- Hearthstone is free to play game and just look how amazing graphics and arts it has... honestly, many free to play games have astonishing graphics but theur budget is not as low as might be expected, And often are free to play but pay to win....
I like Academy and Haven's townscreens, they are not as poor and bad, especially compared to older versions.
besides- really, main focus in visual area is not on towns but outside them so I am not that suprsed that they do not spend so much time on all the arts.

Jotun, Hearthstone is Blizzard lol. And it has over 20 million players. It's the different thing.
And I disagree, towns visuals is a thing as well. How come that cities in H5 were better than in H6 and H7? They were importand and then suddenly stopped to be?

JotunLogi said: To be fair, HoMM 5 castle of Haven is the only one that is truly a town- protected by wall. Still, te castle itself is just way too big
The reason why the H5 townscreens looked so well imo. was they they got away from the literal interpretation of a town screen (well, not that there's much actual town about the H7 ones, but ...). The fact that the castle is too big is not a fault, that's the whole point of the H5 Haven town screen, that's what gives the wow-factor. A townscreen should not look realistic, it should look spectacular and provide atmosphere. All Heroes games prior to H6 understood this - apart from the actual human factions, there's not a single town that looks realistic, and that's what makes it interesting; that's what makes it fantasy!
H6 and H7 town screens goes the completely wrong way. First of all the take the idea of defensive structures way too literally by putting up an ugly wall in the foreground of every single townscreen. This means the one thing we notice first in every single screen is a boring wall. lolwut? It also means that we're always literally on the outside of the city, killing any immersion.
The second problem is that they have some misguided notion about realism. In Haven townscreen, every building looks exactly the same in size, style and colour, meaning it all just blends together to a grey mass. Nothing stands out, nothing catches your attention. Yes, that might be how it would be in real world, but that doesn't mean that's what makes a great townscreen. Stronghold townscreen is almost worse in this regard, literally every building is just a tent. I mean, yes I know they are desert people and nomads, but really? You hire Behemoths from a tent? And not even a big tent, no, a tiny tent!
Irony is that Erwan himself said in one of the fan interviews that the way he wants Ashan to be shown is as something "bit, over the top, unrealistic but fantastic" (or something like that), but what they achieve is the exact opposite: Boring townscreens that are drawn down by a complete lack of imagination and some misguided attempt for realism (which ironically, they even fail miserably at, cf. building placement, scaling, perspective etc.). Compare this to H3 Stronghold: Immediately from looking at it just one second, you notice the Thunderbird dwelling, you notice the Behemoth dwelling, you notice the Cyclops dwelling: You notice something interesting is going on here. Or H5 Stronghold, which arguably was far from the best townscreen, yet still, at least you got something spectacular, something that told you here is an important location. People raved at when the H7 Stronghold townscreen came out, because at least this one wasn't ugly, but really, if that's the criteria of success we've come to, we've fallen a long, long way!

I know that Blzzard is on another level but it proves that also the biggest in the branch are involved in production of free to play products- and the most succesful of those are often settled in popular universes.
By that many free to play games will be really polished and will have beautiful graphics- not to mention that they often wuse arts of very high quality (cause often arts are main issue and arts are est promotion for those kind of games)
good examples are Heroes Online or Settlers Online or Duel of Champions (all Ubi products), all made by well known developers
M&M: Hereos 6 is dsaster in terms of towns, Haven is abonimation, others are mediocre (Sanctuary is good, Necro and Stronghold are decent; Inferno bad and Dungeon so-so).
I do not like HoMM 5 towns, many of them are not better than M7M: Heroes 7 (and I do not mean quality of textures but colours and concepts). Acamedy and Sylvan are great in terms of quality and fantasy and imagination but others have many flaws (oversized, over the top, too big or other such things):
- Necro as way too many spires and spikes, it is too over the top, it lacks graveyards and elements connected to theme. It is not bad, especially cause of moon and enviroment, but it looks more like New York than castle
- Inferno is big castle of rather tower, just that, so- so, could be more detailed and varied
- Stronghold same, just war camp, enviroment is boring, buildings are not memorable
- Dungeon is way to dark and player can see only part of the town; at least idea is cool and some buldings are awesome
- Fortress is weird and due to view and its nature (hole), it s way to disturbing and not as impressive as others
IMO M&M: heroes 7 looks worse when compared to HoMM 3 towns cause the placement was much better but those also have many flaws and illogical things. And also some of them are much better (Rampart, Tower, Conflux, Dungeon) than the rest (Fortres, Stronghold, Castle, Inferno)
Edit:
"A townscreen should not look realistic, it should look spectacular and provide atmosphere"- agreed, buildings should be memorable, fantastc and intruiging. But at the same time Dev should avoid making them a bit too over the top or just goofy. Making castle huge and high is not the point, instead it is better to add more towers, defensive elements and so
In Heroes series I love structures like dragon masoleum in hoMM 2 or magic elemental dwelling in hoMM 3- they are just cool, memorable, pretty but the TS does not look silly cause of them but
just good

It's called conditioning. You feed crap for 10 years to a fanbase desperate for Heroes, and they'll not only come to accept it, but even like it and defend it. Then when they're presented with something remotely decent, it would look absolutely fantastic because their comparison point would be the crap they've been fed with up until then.

Let me sum up all criticism of H7 town screen - specialy Haven:
1. Golden statue of Elrath is way to over the top, and too big to be realistic.
2. H5 Haven town was great BECAUSE main castle was way over the top, and too big to be realistic.
3. Town should look like town, with civilian buildings everywhere ... as realistic as possible - photo of actual town would be best.
4. It's a fantasy game, so town should be over-the top and fantastical. H7 buildings are too bland and ... realistic.
5. H2 towns were AWSOME, because there was NO civilian buildings, and each building stood on it's own.
6. H7 town SUCKS because every building stands on it's own, and there's no civilian building.
7. Giant golden statue of Elrath is too big, therefore, it sucks
8. Giant Arcdevil statue in H3's Inferno is even bigger, that's why it's AWSOME
9. It makes no sense to build huge castles on edge OF A CLIFF near watterfall, that is just silly, and how on earth would people migrate from one building to the next, with no clear paths ... Clearly it sucks.
10. H5's Academy town is GREAT, as ALL THE FLOATING ISLANDS ARE LOGICAL AND OK! and there's no PROBLEM with people moving between buildings. A good town I say.
EDIT: But let me sum this up even more: It's Heroes 7, therefore it sucks
