If you stand by this opinion, OK. But let me ask you, since DRM are still a rather common practice in the game industry, did ubi do this to MaM, or did they do it to themselves? Uplay and it's in game implementations are not limited to MaM but plague all Ubies games. So even if it is a major issue for many people, who have problems whit it, it is nothing that was directly aimed at the Franchise, Chronicles was. It was a pure, direct and targeted aim to parasite on the brand, squeeze as much cash from it, to somehow fill the black hole 3DO made with its other projects. So yes DrM as it was done in H6 is bad, but not as bad as Chronicles were in my eyes.

as a player I don't really care about any of that, all I know is that I can enjoy everything Heroes 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 have to offer without needing an internet connection, whereas I would have to illegally torrent Heroes 6 to enjoy it just the same, which is an insult lol

the Chronicles meanwhile were just optional side stories, as harmless as their fellow cash grabs Duel of Champions and Heroes Online, though not to defend either of these horrible, horrible publishers of course lol

Not quite right. Snow Elves of Vori are isolationist nation:

Quote:
The Snow Elves of Vori, or the 'true elves' as they will be the first to point out to you, are an insular race. They have isolated themselves in the far northwestern corner of Erathia Antagarich. Their history is long and glorious. Just ask them. Very few know of their founding, and fewer still know of their struggles. Most of our information about them are legends, old stories remembered by their cousins, the Elves of AvLee...

However Vori is also populated by Frost Giants and some barbarians tribes, which even had own kingdom. Also Minotaurs from Jadame were present on Vori during their expedition against Frost Giants.

verriker said:
no, Vori, like Karigor and Nighon, is both an island and a nation lol

If ever there was a snake's nest of politics and religion, it was Karigor.  Karigor is a small island southeast of the 'bootleg' that New Sorpigal is situated on.  The twin rival Churches of the Sun and the Moon were founded there, and fought the longest war the world has ever seen until they managed to destroy one another about 200 years ago.  Their artifacts of power are scattered around the world.

DoC (and if I recall well HO aswell) never forced you to pay, and you could enyoj them even if you did not spent a cent. Sadly You had to buy chronicles to find out how much you got screwed. Just a note.

And as for "Harmless side stories", H7 will make sence regardless of your knowladge of those you mentioned, Sadly H4's begining was a shock for those who did not play chronicles.

As a lucky snow who had little to no problems with Uplay, and enyoed most of Ubies MaM Game (MaM X, DoC, H5, DM, Clash) I am not anoyed by them as much as other people are. They treat the franchies worse then it deserves, but it does not insult me as Chronicles, H4, Legends or MaM IX, not to mention that the guy from the decade back killed my favorite world just for his own lolz.

1: Why was it dying?
2: Why isn't Ubisoft dying yet?

That could be considered offensive.

I don't care what company is behind the Heroes franchise. It's a series of games I like, from 3 all the way up to 6, and 7 most likely too. Maybe next time there is going to be a new developer/publisher who's even worse than Ubisoft, which takes H8 in yet another wildly different direction. Maybe that is for the good of the franchise, maybe not.

Ignorance is bliss, and if the end product is a game I like and love to play, they're good to go. I save my critical attitude for other, more important things in the real world. In games, I tend not to overthink too much. For me, it is pastime, something I do for fun. Going all-critical and suspicious may take the fun out of it.

You like what you like, ain't nothing wrong with that. might add that it wasn't meant for "intelligence" educated but rather a lot of people who doesn't go to gaming sites and keep up with what ubisoft is doing, but just sort of goes with the hype. Making an educated purchase based on more than whether the game is enjoyable or not just doesn't matter to them/(you?). Nothing wrong with that inherently (capitalism, ho!), but it does lead to Ubisoft being able to get away with a lot of snow they shouldn't.

If you are ok with that, so be it. can't stop ya. it's your time and money etc, etc. Just make sure you know what you are supporting, k'?

I don't see what is wrong with Chronicles. Devs didn't have much money back then, yet they had... *imagination*.

This also gives it a bit of a "prequel" experience before the Reckoning and the H4 events.

Besides, they gave a lot at writing. Which improved in H4.

I think what was trying to be expressed is that "if you went from H3 to H4 without playing Chronicles, the destruction of the world seemed to come right out of nowhere." Heck, some people might not have even known Chronicles existed. I sure didn't back in the day.

Then again, I started out with H4 and got H3 later, so it didn't bother me at all. Still, I sympathize with those whose view of the transition might as well have amounted to "And then Galadriel and Sauron bro-fisted with their rings of power, causing Middle Earth to explode for no reason. Welp, on to Harry Potter."

What chronicles was? an 8 map linear standalone with, that gave nothing to the original game, was priced as high as 20-40 bucks for a single campaign. Nothing more for your future entertainment than those 8 maps you had to play with the same hero, same faction.

That was in the past, when 3DO/NWC were at the helm. Fast forward more than a decade, and Heroes Chronicles is actually pretty cheap. No idea who is at the receiving end of the money transfer, I doubt it's all going to the people behind Gog.com; they no doubt pay royalties or something, probably to Ubisoft?

Anyway, they're for sale as a package deal these days, all 8 games combined for 9 Euro's. They can be found here on the Gog.com site.

Edit: From memory, I thought that 5 of the games featured 8 maps and 3 of them only 5. Those 3 were special releases which they integrated into the series somehow. If I can find one point of criticism about the contents, it's that many of the maps are rather smallish.

there were four 8 map campaigns priced at a tenner each, two 5 map campaigns you could download free if you owned the others, and two final 8 map campaigns sold together

Dunno about the original pricing, they were never for sale where I live when they were released. At least, not that I can recall. I only first played them when Gog featured them.

You're right about the number of maps, though. I just checked my files, since I extracted the individual maps a while back.

01 Warlords of the Wasteland - 8 maps
02 Conquest of the Underworld - 8 maps
03 Masters of the Elements - 8 maps
04 Clash of the Dragons - 8 maps
05 The World Tree - 5 maps
06 The Fiery Moon - 5 maps
07 Revolt of the Beastmasters - 8 maps
08 The Sword of Frost - 8 maps

The final mission in the 8th campaign was the one that ended the world .

1. Yeah, forgot about that. You have a point about Free Cities. Still, could be more.

2. H6 still has the plot about demons. Every campaign you played the final antagonist faction was Inferno, besides Inferno campaign itself. Though I am aware H7 does not (hence why no Inferno in the vanilla).

3. ?

4. Told above your points.

1- Its been 2 heroes games, dark messiah and a mmx. The last two are set on free cities iirc

2- Oh i must have missed the part when Uriel, Michael, Cate, Himiko, the Bone Dragon and Sandro revealed themselves to be demons.

2- lol

4- "Lol im gonna disregard/ignore the stuff that goes against my point because lol". Do you realize that our society is timed after the birth of the apparent "Son of God" and that the decline of religions is a relatively recent development in humankind. In Ashan gods have actual influence, why would they not worship them wildly?

If you dislike it thats sucks for you but doesnt make it any worse or better. If anything having a backstory irrelevant to the game is bad.
