Isn't it hard to bite people when you are in the middle of the battle? I mean that H2 and H3 vampire used hands to attack and they still healed themselves through life drain. H4 did have that animation which did made you felt it did steal life (well, more like a soul rather than blood), but some still didn't like the animation.

So, how do you think it will bite people? It has to extend its head and tongue to do that. Some would just slap it in the face then.

Animation-wise, my speculation is "claw slash with one hand" for base attack and "lunge with both hands and leaning in for a chomp" for critical.

I always think of Disciples II...

Why don't they scrap the Vampire as a melee fighter and make him a range fighter? With the added bonus that when he attacks he summons a giant heart that he slashes with his claws...

Man, Disciples II was such a great game...

Heya HC!
After lurking on here ever since i started working on Heroes 7, i figured i could maybe try posting for once! (was kinda worried i'd mess up by saying wrong things)

I'm a Technical Artist at Limbic, and have lately focused on doing visual effects.
I'm currently actually doing a final VFX pass on the Townscreens. Well, not currently, considering i'm writing this, but i swear it's on my main screen i'm going right back to it!

If you have any questions on the art side of things i can try answering, although admittedly as a tech artist i've been more involved in getting art into the game instead of making it.

Ha! Good question. That IS totally my fault. Iterating on that is in fact on my todo.
At least in the case of the ancient Treant we were optimizing to make it look good from a distance, which made it look strange and waaaay too full up close, as it is on HC. I'll go for a more subtle approach in my next iteration.
As for why bubbles. The art i was basing it on depicted tiny lights (fairies, butterflies) flying around it, and to avoid having too much noise in something that was supposed to be small, i went for bubbles.

welcome on this forum. Can you please answer, the next questions. Will Limbic improve the visual apparance of the game comparing the final release to the beta version? I mean the incorrect zoom, unit scale issues and the bad adventure map textures, UI design etc..? Can we count on some graphic improvements in the final game?

Thanks for the answer. Well, I don't know for others, but IMO the bubbles look silly. Which is a shame, because the design of the creature is good, but these bubbles kind of ruins it.. The glow is enough IMO.

Hooo boy, that's the kind of question i could get in trouble for, soo please take it with a grain or even chunk of salt.
I've definitely heard discussions about some of those, but i can't tell what exactly has been decided.
Probably not adventure map textures though, as i'm not quite sure what you mean. I mean, i did notice lower quality textures on some streams during the beta, but in that case i think it was due to lower settings. That said, i'm pretty sure you haven't seen all of the textures yet! (*she said, probably never actually having seen them all either*)

Do you mean the glow on the texture, the smokey glow rising from the treant or general bloomey glow? In any case i'll keep it in mind. As i said, i want to go way more subtle on the treant, so it'll come across more as a glow than an outright bubble. It's hard to balance it out, but i'll try, whenever i'll get around to a 2nd pass on the creatures

I would diminish that glow or completely erase it. The bubble effect could be reworked in a way that they could travel (by 'they' I mean those pseudo-fairies and butterflies) about the treant, coming in and out of vision, as if visiting 'homes' around the living being, and not ever present, giving it an cleaner air, a bit more subtle still mystical. The bubbles could be a bit more shiny due that, some more than others, one go farther off than others etc.

oh no, don't worry. We do try to improve everywhere we can. Like when a texture cannot improve, wonders can be done with the right shader as well as shader settings. I can't say what has been done so far, nor if anything will be done, as tasks related to those things often fall into other people's hands. They might exist since our level designers are super demanding (hi LDs! love you all! )

Welcome Layn My main gripes are the overused glows and shiny effects in upgraded units(all the more noticeable in the treant upgrade) and.. the emerald dragon's head! I actually prefer the basic version over the upgrade, the latter does not really look powerful and/or majestic. It's more like a grandma brontosaurus ..

Do you know if  we'll get to see large unpassable forests and massive mountain ridges on the adventure map other than the small hills and single hand placed trees. It would really help immersion if the whole army didn't have to spend half a day just to get round a single tree instead of a dense forest.

I agree with what Elvin and galaad said about the particles and bubbles. And with Elvins opinion on the emerald dragon. I also wish it didn't resemble a Kirin but that's just me.

I have to ask, any chance the ancient behemoth could get a bit more grey in its coat? And maybe a slightly smaller nose. I really love the Unupgraded version
