Actually, regardless of quality, Ashan is thoroughly way more mythical than the old universe, which actually gave us somewhat generic medieval kingdom
I'm not against Ashan, but it's definitely more of a generic medieval setting than the old universe. Remember, the old universe's devils were really aliens, the nobility of one of the medieval kingdoms controlled access to a supercomputer, the ruler of the undead kingdom was being advised by heroes who had crash-landed in a spaceship, the years were numbered After Silence (after they lost communication with the Ancients), etc.

My remark was mostly about kingdoms like Enroth or Erathia - when you're supposed to describe Holy Empire's ideology, you can give a nice full description about the worship of Light, about its social structure. Then, there are kingdoms of old universe - what can you tell me about them, about what they are, besides some awkward plot twists?

lol I'll bite, pick a kingdom from the "Ancient universe" (still think that's a ridiculous term lol) and tell me how much you want to know on which subjects

I dont wanna get into a "my house is bigger" kind of argument, but personally i dont feel like sticking to Gods and magic instead of Aliens and tech which in practical purposes were the same as the former, diminishes or increases Ashan.

Personally, I always found 'these guys are actually aliens from space' plot a bit silly.

Maybe because you didn't pay attention to the post it was an answer to:

When I watched the interviews and streams where the ubisoft team talked about might and magic 7, they kept talking about "medieval fantasy". The "medieval fantasy" thing is what makes these games so boring. Heroes III for example feels very original Heroes 3 is not fantasy, its mythology.

What I meant was: Yes, the older games had a more medieval fantasy flair to them than the newer ones,
but in what way does that make Ashan more mythical?

Now you're talking as if it was NWC that invented mythology, lel. Frankly, even the Ancient universe didn't stick to its mythological origins - for example, there's an entire race of minotaurs, while in the classical Greek mythology, there was only one. You're making empty accusation about Ubisoft 'making anything up' in any other way...

No Im not making accusations, and Im not saying NWC invented mythology.

I guess my point was that the old games atmosphere and feeling is magical and mythological, and the new games made by ubisoft feels like more like your average fantasy game, do you understand what im getting at? Like the Minoutar(s), Heroes III is a game that makes you question if there was only one, you know?

And I can see now as i answer this post that i should not have voted, as I don't care that much about ashan, and i dont care about the lore that much. I care much more about the artstyle, the music and the feeling of the game. oh well bla bla bla

Okay then - what are differences between the cultures developed by Kingdom of Enroth and Erathia?

a few simple examples:

- Enroth was founded by an alien lord, Morglin Ironfist, roughly 40 years prior to Heroes III; Erathia was founded by Rion Gryphonheart roughly a millennium before Heroes III and has a far vaster, more illustrious history of intrigue
- in its final form, Enroth is a massive, continent-sprawling collection of nation-states (Mist, Silver Cove, Free Haven, etc), whereas Antagarich, the continent Erathia exists upon, is the Castle faction only and said to be "a lot wilder and more unsafe than Enroth, and all the little kingdoms there (including Erathia) are always bickering and fighting"
- Enrothians revere a full pantheon, including the goddess of healing, Eyla, whereas Erathians worship only the nebulous "Light"; "the basic principle behind Erathian Religion is that if you properly follow all the rituals, that which you ask for shall be granted"
- Enroth, though ruled by the Ironfists from beginning to end, followed the Chinese succession principle of the mandate of heaven and empowered the Royal Seer to choose appropriate heirs; Erathians followed strict dynastic principles, with the Gryphonhearts reigning in an apparently unbroken line until Catherine's abdication
- Enrothians employed beasts only where necessary, whereas the Erathians idolised the (Enrothian Warlock) beast the Griffin; Rion Gryphonheart's armies tamed Antagarich's Griffins and trained them for war, uniting the human colonies
- the Enrothians are advised by the Oracle of Enroth, an Ancient supercomputer guarded by the High Council of state officials and lords, although the Erathians do curry the favour of the mysterious angels from time to time
- although Enroth was essentially founded out of spite and suffered a violent civil war under Archibald, Erathia is directly linked to far darker chapters of history, involving genocide or slavery (its predecessor Bracaduun; the First Tatalian War), and other long conflicts of questionable morality (the Timber Wars)

next please lol

Frankly... I still don't see anything special about it.

Besides some name-dropping, it all boils down to Erathia being an older, but smaller nation ruled by a royal dynasty, waging more wars and Enroth being a younger, but larger nation, influenced by seers and oracles.

Obviously, we can recount all the historical events, but I'm not certain if that will add any flavor to these factions - for example, there's nothing in there that would make me feel that a Knight of this nation would have a very different sets of values than the other one, besides maybe bringing up different deities and serving different rulers

Well, there's certainly some stuff there obviously, maybe even lots of it, but the atmosphere of all that feel pretty stale to me.

What do you mean? Even if you believe there aren't many differences, wouldn't that actually be good? I mean, similarities to the old universe could be also interpreted as staying true to its legacy, would it not?

Well, H7 playable Haven is from a different Duchy for the first time. Let's see how it goes. Right now the only other haven faction that stands out from the Griffin is Bull duchy, imo.

I really don't get the arguing. Enroth/Axeoth are gone. Embrace the new era or just play the older games.

I prefer to stay in Ashan.

I also prefer Might and Magic X Legacy over the old M&Ms!
