So... it's been a long journey but there you have it... The whole of the 10 major factions in the world of Inolin.

Now, you can go through them all and read them and compare them. We would greatly accept reviews on the info, units, abilities and whatever else you might think important to share. Keep in mind not to narrow your review to only one faction but rather have the whole forest in your mind.

Minastir and i will take a little break from creating factions here in Inolin and will try to focus a bit more on the community creation effort in due time. But be warned, although the major factions are done, this doesn't mean this thread will be left to die. There are more stuff coming after a while (we do need our rest from all this mindspinning).

So, once some posts have been posted with valid ideas, objectified opinions and constructive advice, we will discuss about possible revisions that might prove useful to the whole of the lineups and Factions.


PS: There is an interest about making skill systems, magic systems, racials, Faction abilities etc, but when Minastir and i are ready for such a move, we will inform you.

The thing is that many of the abilities sound extremely good but we can't fully review them because we cannot see them interracting with other abilities creatures etc. You could reconsider the name "reef" for sanctuary

Nope, we did consider the name change but ended up thinking that sanctuary is a fine name for the faction. The name is not what ties it to ashan but rather the thematics and background. Since those are gone, sanctuary can still be considered a good name.

Alright, I'll start...

First, an amazing project!

It's truly a shame Ubi doesn't give a damn about the series, and seemingly hates the fans of such a long-time classic...

Regarding Necro: nice and cool overall, you got nearly all the undead  types covered. HOWEVER I wouldn't call the Ghost upgrade Banshee (traditionally they're more powerful creatures), and Ghosts and Soul Devourers overlap. Cool artwork and abilities, though.

Regarding Stronghold: very nice line-up, lots of beasts as Stronghold SHOULD BE and nice backstory and culture. Two changes I'd implement is making both versions of the Karkadann either ridden or riderless (just for coherence's sake), and nixing Werejaguars since they fit a jungle theme, and this is seemingly a wasteland/rough terrain town. You could also put Werejackals/Gnolls instead.

Regarding Bastion: wow, no criticism. Your best faction IMHO (alongside Dungeon) and a fine reincarnation of the Fortress.

... More to come, overall - amazing work, a shame it won't get implemented... :-(

Necro: We will think about the name, previously it was Spectre, then we have changed it to Banshee but yeah we will think about it

Stronghold: Yup, we will move Werejaguar to a new town (yes, we are working on some new towns ) and add Gnoll to the stronghold, it will fit better in this faction.

If you could comment on other factions as well, we would appreciate that, thanks

PS: We would like to encourage once again to review the factions, because now it is the time when we will be making small changes to factions before we reveal the ones

So... Dunno if people read what Minastir said, but we are slowly coming back, working to enhance Inolin even further.

Right now we are preparing 4 new and quite unique Factions, BUT we are also trying to review our previous factions based on comments people left.

In this aspect, your opinion matters a lot. So please, any comment you want to leave, any advice, any opinion, is a welcome food for thought for us

Took the time to reread your factions. Still a pretty damn great job guys, and I look forward to seeing you exspan upon it (add cove ).
Though have you considered adding the concept for faction skills? If not I would love to come with a few ideas...

Notes:
Necropolis
Not much to add here, the lineup is good and the lore is just what I would like of necropolis, being neutral like death itself and made of multiple idividual death lords rather than a single empire or cult. Only thing to add is that I don't like that the skeleton lacks an ability. Give it skeletal, making it take less damage from range. Also wouldn't the zombie dragon fit betteer in tier 7?

Stronghold
This faction is epic! I swear among all the orc factions I've seen. It perfectly give of the feeling of a proud warrior faction native to the badlands, without being completely warcrazed like other types of orcs (angrily looks at warhammer)
I would just like to add that you could give the goblin a cowardice ability. Would work well with it being ranged, and add more character to it.

Bastion
Ahh, your glorious reimagining of the old swamp fortress faction. I still perfers the name Citadel for it though, but it's not important. All I'll add is that I still regards the Hydra as more fitting for tier 7 than the mantis.

Sylvan
Ahh, this is great! An all around well designed faction with great lore and a great combination of old and new units. My only problem is the Cu Sith, which I would perfer replaced with a dryad working similar to the H5 counterpart, or some wild beast.

Academy
All I can say it's a nice and well thought through faction with good lore and a great lineup (love the use of the crystal dragon). Only question is if it's native to deserts or?

Castle
No way around this. Though I'll admit you managed to make it feel more interesting varied than most other human factions I've seen.
Smaller note though "Cavaliers are the heavy infantry" They're cavalry, this sentence doesn't make sense.

Inferno
Better than the appearently aliens and the spawn of the chaos dragon, with a nice chaotic feeling to it. Only concern is that the devil and pitlord might look very alike (though with the right design it shouldn't be a problem)

Dungeon
It's a pretty cool faction, though I personally miss the dark elves. Not as the surpreme rulers, but more like refugees who have come to ally with the minotaurs, aiding them with dark magic. That said, got a nice selection of varied beasts.

Fortress
Do me a favor and drop the Yatagarasu. It's okay to look a little farther for inspiration, but going to Japan just to find a solution is over the top. Just call it elder Valravn or something.
I can better accept the fire valkyrie after playing Trial by Fire.
That out of the way, I love this faction. Especially the fire giants and frost dragon! ^^

Sanctuary
My old favorite. I enjoy the concept and the lore, as I'm a huge fan of mermaids and similar races. Easily my favorite out of all the factions!
My only real problem is the lack of the actual Naga unit. Just why? I mean it's litterally the unit the faction originally was based on! Why not! (sorry for minor rage)
Also, use the Heroes VII kraken please.

To end things off I would like to ask you, if you had to pick 3-4 factions as the most important, which would you choose? With the thought of if there was to be a game based of it.

The faction skills and other stuff like skill system, magic system, classes etc. would be in our different thread (this is about the setting for the new universe) but we would make it after finishing this one, so it's gonna take some time If you have some cool ideas then when we are going to make them we will contact you


Necropolis:

Giving goblin a cowardice ability wouldn't really fit with the bio and info we have given the goblin but we will think about this.

PRAISE THE HEAVENS AND THANK YOU!! The raven thing was really bugging me, perhaps more than it should have.

For the rest, the Cu Sith is optional, so I suppose I can live with it.
The zombie dragon still seem more fitting for tier 7, atleast compared to the black knight. Beside, you don't have to be hipster about all the classic top tier creatures.
Well it was the kind of desert I would expect for academy. Very fitting.
I'll say you could slightly change the goblins lore in order to bring out a more interesting gameplay for it, as where the cowardice ability was a weakness for the melee goblin, it would be a huge advantage for a range one.

Also, if you would send me a message when you begin on that, it would be lovely. Already considering how to get necromancy to work proberly, as a mixture of the classic and the H5 one, while fitting for your lineup. Might also have some other ideas in the back of my head.

I just don't like the concept and think there is more interesting ideas than some fairy dog. Though it's optional, so I guess I can live with it. Especially if it got a badass design.

So, I just had a short look at this and the idea sounds really nice so far. From the little I´ve seen. I just have two things to criticize:
1. The Gargoyle feels somehow wrong in Necropolis. All the other creatures are some (more or less) rotten undeads, but here we´ve got such a clean stature. Ok, there´s a soul trapped into it, but it still looks and therefore feels for the outstanding like some animated stature. More the product of a mage, if you ask me. Instead maybe use some skeletal/zombie non-humanoid corpse? Maybe a Karkadann-corpse? Or the one of a unicorn?
2. For some reason there are two different Stinger in Bastion. The upgrade of the Lizardman and of the Sharpshooter. That´s kinda strange. They should have different names

Actually, I would argue that it's rather fitting in necropolis. It's not just clean statue, but a menacing figure made of dark cold stone, and a necromancer is a type of mage too (who says they can't learn more than raising the dead?) Beside, it's a unique, but fitting twist to a classic unit.
And not everything have to be a rotting corpse...

The idea for gargoyle being pushed to Necropolis was mine and i supported it because of the units story. Gargoyles are meant to be hideous and scary constructs that their purpose is to draw away evil and supernatural forces. As such, they are found in cathedrals and cemeteries. But Necromancers, being who they are, can use them to their advantage. The gargoyle was not always in the Academy faction, and the Academy has its golem which is more fitting. But i wanted to give Gargoyle a chance to be horrific and within it more terrifying premise and return to its beastly and ugly form. Also, undeads act as constructs of sorts, so it is not out of place. Plus there is a zombie dragon and an abomination there and we were considering having more undead units but if it were of another unit in the project it might sound uninspiring or even a boring design.

We will look into the name of the stingers as you say. Maybe we did a typo or we were in a block phase (we have been through many of those trying to find units and names and abilities that would complement the whole picture and still be and feel unique).

As for the Cu Sith, it is a unit that has never been in a Heroes game, it fits with the premise of the new world and introducing new units and all, but also plays homage to Heroes IV, where wolf was among the lineup. It may seem uninspired but it still fits with the whole idea of Sylvan being a Forest/Wild faction more rather than an elven faction.

It's just a mistake Above the line-up picture was (because I have already fixed it) Lizardman Stinger but below the picture the name is Lizardman Warrior and it should be the second one.

I like most of it and where I don't it's a matter of taste. if I were to come with some criticism, it would be that there are too many cats and a few too many "normal animal with X magic stuff added" but We've been over this

The cat issue has been acknowledged and now we are a lot like: "this looks like a cat so noooo" "isnt that a little too feline??" and "we need no more cats".

So yeah, expect more dogs from now on
