Community creation effort
WELCOME HEROES, TO A NEW ADVENTURE
It is time for a fun activity here at the altar, namely that of the Community creation effort!
Community creation effort
Introduction
The community creation effort is a small game where participants get to create something, namely a faction of some sort (other possibilities exist but we'll start with factions) which are then put in the same world. The aim of this game is to try and create a new and original world with using elements of previous heroes games. naturally this means some parts(namely lore and story) of the factions will have to be at the very least vague so as to make sure it can fit with the remaining factions but outside of that you'll be able to to almost anything.
Rules
The rules are simple: everyone makes a faction. These factions can be completely new factions or an old one, the only thing that is mandatory is a creature line-up, general game-play direction and abilities. Outside of that you are welcome to do whatever you like but you will need to keep lore and history short or vague as to make sure your faction will be able to mix with the others.
1) You will make a faction each. This can be any faction you like, be it an original one or a version of a classic faction.
a) Only one of each faction is allowed.
b) Classic factions will require 2 "legacy creatures" from the list below (let me know if you consider other creatures "legacy")
c) Legacy creatures can not be used by another faction. Exceptions can be made if there is a good thematic reason for it (Forge jetpack Minotaurs for example).
2) No external relationships on faction lore. You may not decide what relationships your faction might have with other factions or societies.
a) Internal politics are allowed.
b) specific creature lore regarding creation or origin is allowed if it is external as long as it avoids naming anything specific (Orcs/beastmen being cruel experiments but refrain from saying who or what did it for example. This goes the other way too: Academy are known for experimenting and creating weird creatures but leave out what they've done unless it's in the faction)
3) Follow the example below for structure:
Quote: FACTION NAME
general information #1(lore/theme etc)
yadda yadda
general information #2(and so on until satisfied)
yadda yadda
Faction game play and potential racial skill
Units
Unit > upg(if applicable)
description/stats
-ability name(upg, basic or both): ability description
Heroes (if applicable)
Hero Name
Description
-specialty: description
a) Additional and/or fewer categories are allowed. This rule is there to help it be more coherent.
4) If you decide to make your own thread, Link back here for easy management.
(You can also check Here for more tips)
FACTIONS:
Tell me what factions you want to work on! we can only have one version of each faction. Classic factions will have "legacy creatures" meaning the faction needs at least 2 of them and they can not be in another faction. Mixes (ala H4 Death) are allowed and will need 1 of each faction legacy creatures rather than 2 from each. Exceptions to this rule can be made if the origin faction is not taken.
Academy/Tower/Wizard - Golem, Djin, Titan, Mage
Dungeon/Asylum/Warlock - Mintaur, Black Dragon
Castle/Haven - Swordfighter(footman/crusader/Justicar), Paladin, Angel
Sylvan/Rampart/Nature - Unicorn, Dendroid/treant, Elf(archer)
Necropolis/Necromancer - Skeleton, Vampire, Lich
Stronghold/Barbar - Cyclop, Orc, Goblin, Ogre
Inferno - Imp, Cerberus, Demon, Pit Lord, Devil
Reserved:
Gryphs: The Gaol (Haven/inferno fusion)
Mediczero: Ringfort(dwarf fortress) - Dwarf, troll
Galaad: Marelle
Rakshasa: The gloom(spooky, evil counterpart to sylvan)
PandaTar: Misty Hills
Leiah2: The Clave
If there is anything you wish changed or Clarified - Let me know. this post is very much subject to change however things might be locked down by Friday next week. For now, we do not have a deadline.

First of all, we should decided on the lineup system, as it would be ideal to have a common system all uses.
This have two parts, the tiers and the upgrades.
The tiers should say itself. There could be 6 tiers like in H1/2, 7 like in 3/5, or something more advance like what H4 did.
The upgrades are also pretty simple, and so far there have been four different version of it. None as in H1 and H4, Selective as in H2, All as in H3/6/7, and lastly Multiple like in H5 Tribes of the east.

I think lineup-system can be individual as it can add a lot of personality to a faction. I think I succeeded rather well myself for example.
However if people think it would make things easier I'm all for it.

I think system could vary between factions. I was never fan of that forced aura of upgrades from the later games, nor find a fixed number of tiers a true necessity. I agree with Kiryu that making them unique shall strengthen a bit more the personality of a faction, as long as we are not going to be adamant as if going to design a game for a Multiplayer audience balancing (and messing up) with every small detail.

You can make your faction however you like!
Try and keep lore at the least Vague: we want the factions created to intermingle in the same setting.

The Gloom - A dark and evil variant of the sissy Sylvan town.
All my favorite mythological creatuers only suit into one town, and that is Sylvan, but since that is a boring wussy, good alignment town, there need to be some evil dark forest shadow town, which can house them all at once!
Oh and yes, I put on a big middlefinger to a race-based town, no Dark Elf theme or Dark Dwarf theme in my little creatons, back to HOMM3!
Units:
1. Will o Wisp (Wisp -upg- Witch Fire) (Flyer/Ranged)
2. Redcap (Redcap -upg- Dunter) (Walker/Melee)
3. Kumiho (Kumiho -upg- Nogitsune) (Walker/Caster)
4. Valravn (Valravn -upg- Peryton) (Flyer/Shifter)
5. Sianach (Sianach -upg- Anhanga) (Walker/Melee)
6. Jubokko (Blood Ent -upg- Jubokko) (Walker/Ranged)
7. Erlking (Winter King -upg- Autumn King) (Caster + Flyer)
Heroes
1: Beast Hunter
2: Witch
The Erlking
Town 2, also dark forest, but because I have so much cool units, I can easily create two dark forest towns.
Units:
1. Mandragora (Mandrake -upg- Mandragora) (Walker/Melee)
2. Goggie (Goggie -upg- Horned Goggie] (Walker/Ranged)
3. Mothman (Mothman -upg- Elder Mothman) (Flyer/Caster)
4. Ozark Howler (Black Howler -upg- Doom Howler) (Walker/Ranged)
5. Jorogumo (Jorogumo -upg- Arachne) (Walker/Shifter)
6. Troll (Earth Troll -upg- Rock Troll) (Walker/Ranged)
7. Gaueko (Gaueko -upg- Night Lord) (Shifter/Melee)
Others which I also like and maybe switch with the above:
Pooka - Cute black creatures with dark humor and curse abilities.
Nocnitsa or Night Hag - Evil hags that haunt your nightmares.
Splintercat - A strong puma cat monster with a pachycephalosaurus-like skull.
Tikbalang - A mixture of a horse-like minotaur and the slenderman.
Gulon - Half bear and half wolverine, very gluttonous creatures.
Lechuza - Owl monsters that are actually evil hags in transformed state.
Leshy - Plant tricksters
Barghest - The black dog
Trenti - Gnomes that control and herd fungus/mushrooms/toadstools.
Askafroa - The evil counterpart of the dryad.
Kludde - Bat winged wolves that have a hallucination bite.
Rougarou - A werewolf with a cooler name.
Satyr - Play flutes to entrall their victims.
Stray Sod - Strange creatures with grass on their backs, if you step on their grass when they are burrowed in, you will lose your way and direction.

Rakshasa, I think having two dark forest towns is a little overkill. The concept is good, but if the only argument for having two is "I have so many "COOL" ideas for this", it might be better to just pick the best in one town rather to create two almost too alike towns. Just a little thoughts for the shake of quality. ^^

I know, but they aren't suppose to be both in the game. Just one, but because I couldn't deside which units went into the town I just created two for this little topic.
I just don't feel much inspiration today to do other towns, Dark Forest is always been my favorite town, too bad the creators of HOMM games stick with the boring Sylvan barbies.

I see no problems of having both the classic nature faction and the dark forest (or trollwood faction if I had to use a badly translate danish term)
I personally think both have many great ideas and that the best way is to take them and mix it all into one. Personally I would request the Will-o-Wisp, Valravn (and please, do not let the murder raven get upgraded into a winged deer!!), Troll and Wendigo.
