fanofheroes, sending debug folder + savegame is more helpful than HD Crash Log.

if the error is that it's dividing something by zero, where/how can I fix that?

So that's an ERM error I suppose? You can try to fix it by checking the part of code the error msg mentioned.

This is just a quick check to make sure I'm not insane. I'm using the latest version of ERA III 3.2 (the one that shipped with the most recent version of the gaming build), and I can't seem to get it to produce XXL maps or even use them. Yes, in answer to the obvious question, the XXL mod is enabled. I can select the largest setting (G I think) in the in-game random map routine, and the maps still come out 144 X 144. The standalone map editor likewise gives that as the highest possible setting. I tried creating a 252 X 252 map in my old 3.0.4 installation, and it worked with no issues. However, the latest version of map editor rejected it as an invalid or corrupt file and doesn't even attempt to load it.

I figured that if this were a general problem, some reference to it would have shown up, but so far, none have. Is there some obvious trick I'm missing here?

Just remove the old XXL-mod, and install a new XXL-mod (at this link)
http://wforum.heroes35.net/showthread.php?tid=5192&pid=120615#pid120615

Thanks for the help. However, I deleted the old XXL, inserted the new one, made sure it was active, and tried to create a map in map editor. I still got 144 X 144 as the largest option. (I tried both in the folder I'm currently using that includes additional mods and in a folder with only the gaming build installed (full assembly, including the mod for the new tavern videos) In both cases, I got the same results. I could select G as a setting for the in-game random map generator, but the resulting map was still only 144 X 144. Is there anything else I can try?

I've tried some experiments, particularly with trying to create a 252 X 252 map in one of my old installations and using it with the new one. The map editor still rejects the map created with the older map editor-XXL combination as an invalid file type. I was successful in getting the game to open the experimental map, but when I checked advanced options, it showed all the town types as random, just as if I were generating a random map instead of using one already generated. I tried letting it start a game without selection advanced options, such as a specific hero, and it gave me two towns to start with. Starting town was a castle, but with a death knight as hero. The other town was a necropolis. This doesn't look promising. Clearly, the older version of map editor (used in 3.0.4) behaves differently from the one in 3.2.0. Neither the newer map editor nor the newer in-game random map generator properly recognize the old maps. I also tried downloading the light version of the installer and setting that up instead of using the full assembly version. That didn't help, either. It's clear that something has changed between 3.04 and 3.20 that interferes with the XXL mod and/or the map editor and/or in-game generator, but not being a programmer, I can't pin down what it is. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Here are the files.  I'm not sure how helpful it is because I made a Lord of the Rings mod that just has an interface and images changed, a few scripts for artifacts and around 20 new units.  but here are the folders. I'll try to see if the error re-creates itself without them..

Truthfully I'm not entirely sure the source of the error.  (most of my success understanding these things are from trial and error)

I assumed it was an ERA error because in the log it says:
Module: h3era HD.exe
  Adress:      [ 0x0042437D ]
  Code:        EXCEPTION_INT_DIVIDE_BY_ZERO
  Flags:       0x00000000

I know with the HD I had to create folders in mods that I made so that they would be compatible.  maybe its that?  All my ideas are just a shot in the dark.  Maybe I'll get lucky and figure it out lol.  But if it was something with the mechanics of ERA 3, then that's beyond me unfortunately.

Zero in Battle_Stack.Current_number_before_attack. This is a gross error in your ERM script.

Oh gosh, my brain really has some lapses sometimes. when I was making creatures, I had created a "test" unit to help me figure out what I needed to do to make the defs, stats etc.  I forgot to delete this unit because all it's stats are at 0.

thank you so much

thanks for the last hint it worked with the quick combat.

I have one more trubleshoot. We played multiplayer last night through the multiplayer lobby and we ran into problems. We often got stuck on transfering / recieving data after a turn. We tried three different hosts but regularly after 3 days to 2 weeks the game would get stuck and crash on recieving data.

Any experiences or tips? can it be due to unstable internet or is there another explanation. Thanks

A new HoMM 3 ERA version was released
Current version: 3.3.0

Briefly: color texts with transparency, correct width calculation, support for Asian languages and all HD mod modes and the ability to enter tags in input fields; embedding images and icons in any text, updated plugins by igrik, new sets of monster portraits, many new functions, constants and events for the EPM library, including working with time, arrays, strings, directories, ini files, monsters and actions in battle, loading settings from json, working with dialogs and hints; multiple fixes and improvements in the EPM, including fixes for the most unpleasant bugs reported during testing.

Implemented support for color texts and Era markup language in general for all HD mod modes.
It became possible to enter invisible tags in the input fields using the characters "{" and "}". The implementation may change in the future.
Implemented alpha channel support for color texts using the {~RRGGBBAA} syntax.
Significantly improved support for Asian languages and multi-language texts, including correct word wrap and calculating the width of characters, words, and strings. For Chinese, the font file selection is based on the size of the original game font, not the file name in the archive.
Implemented the ability to embed def images in any Heroes texts. Auto-trimming, vertical alignment, and horizontal mirroring are supported.
Updated plugins for bug fixes and native dialogs by igrik.
Include "monprt44.def" file with 44x44 monster portraits from Bes. The frames in the def file are sorted by monster IDs.
Added support for processing single ALT keystrokes.
Added auto-creation of "Runtime", "Games" and "Random_Maps" directories. The "Runtime" directory is intended for storing settings and data generated by scripts and plugins while the game is running. Cleaning it should return the mods to a clean state after installation.
Visual improvement of the EPM syntax: no need to write ":;", just a single semicolon.
Added a command to get a human player sitting at a given computer and a command to work with addresses in RAM.
The new "OnStartOrLoad" event is useful for performing actions when starting the map or loading a saved game.
The "Era Erm Framework" library has been updated with hundreds of new constants for bitmasks, game manager addresses, dialog element IDs, etc.
Added tools for convenient processing of mouse and keyboard events with saving all the parameters necessary for writing conditions in global variables.
Many new features have been added to the EPM library: packing and unpacking bit flags, shuffling elements in arrays, combining arrays, getting array slices, getting substrings, getting a list of files and folders in specific directories, reading and writing ini files, loading settings from json files directly into global variables, getting monster and hero limits, getting upgraded and degraded monsters, managing stack shooting in battle, saving the game, clearing the screen from chat messages, getting active dialogs and sending commands to any dialog elements, redrawing dialog items and control over adventure map hints.
Key press events are no longer triggered when there is focus in any input field. Entering texts in the chat bar no longer interferes with scripts.
A number of changes and fixes in the EPM commands.
Improved the event of setting a hint for a tile or object when hovering over the adventure map.
Fixed about 10 bugs in game resources, ERM interpreter and library.

Just install HD-Mod? and move mods from old installation to new?

But there is a more convenient way to get the full package:
http://wforum.heroes35.net/showthread.php?tid=5817&page=1

Just download the Eng full version and install in a new and empty folder or use the light version and install over your current ERA 3 installation.

In ERA 3.3.0, "Return/Enter" button in Save/load screen works after 3 or 5 pressing. Am I the only one with this issue?

EDIT: Right click for leaving moinsters also don't work.

Using Era 3's Wog Map Editor, I get this message when hovering over or clicking some WoG creatures or artifacts:

Also, I want to place the plague month.bin in Era Plugins folder but I cant seem to locate it. Here's the strange thing, when I load game and go to WoG Menu, when I click "load WoG Options" button, I can see a folder named Era Plugins under main game folder, under it 2 other folders named Before WoG/After WoG. They are invisible under Windows though, I even tried going to control panel and selecting "show hidden folders" but it is still missing. How can I reach this file?

Edit: Okay, I figured out the second issue. Each mod has its its own Era Plugin folder. So, that one's solved.

I downloaded the full assembly, installed in a new folder and tested the map editor. I have no problem. So I can just assume there's something wrong with your installation.
Maybe AV blocked some file during instal?
You use some mods that add invalid objects in map editor?
You installed over old ERA?

I fixed my map issues by installing the full assembly, but that was because it was a slightly later version (February 12), whereas I had been using the light edition from February 9. (Version numbers of gaming build end in .042 and .041, respectively.) Though not mentioned specifically in the change log, it's clear something major happened between the two that fixed a lot of the map issues.
