Best H3 XL maps
Well, since H4 has been a major let-down for me I've ditched the game and reverted to H3. Any suggestions as to some really enjoyable (i.e. good storyline, great topography and - most importantly - huge battles) XL maps, other than the usual Lord of War that even the computerless Eskimos know by now? I've downloaded dozens of XL maps from from H3trio & MapHaven but 99% of them are downright booooooring, so if you happen to have come across any decent ones, I'd love to know about it =)

Thanks. Actually, I know the AW site quite well and have obviously spent my fair share of time hunting through its archives as well and downloading highly rated maps which turned out to be as enjoyable as a gob of camel snot in both eyes.
Rather, if you could NAME some really decent (as described above) XL maps and save me the never-ending frustration of discovering, three months into the game, that there is definitely no story, no decorations, no plot, no nothing (oh gawd, I'm beginning to sound like a Yankee  )I'd be eternally grateful (whatever the cliché means).

Campaign: Eternal Love (very though .. u will need days to complete it)
The Adventures Of Wren: Hard map in which teh loss of a single creature can cost ya the game (many .. many reloads)
The Lord Of War
Angelic Pride series...
But it all depends on what kind of map u are looking for.
I think they can all be found on the AW-site.

LOL Random XL = an extra large wedge of boredom: no story, poor trimmings, etc etc etc and so on and so forth from here to eternity and beyond, if I do say so myself.
Ah, To Kill for Power...I know that one all to well, it is definitely my favourite and a must for any hardcore single-player freak!

Yes...and both are great singleplayer maps/camp. As for multi, I haven't found any that great maps so maybe XL-random might be best one...

Did you ever get through to the end, by the way?
I think I just came across a brilliant single/multiplayer map (great either way) called "War of the world"...I think the author is the same genius behind Empire of the World I & II. This one would make for a phenomenal MP match, a bit like Monster Island Great in sp mode as well.

The Empire of the World is, besides the lord of war, the snowing best map you can get for single player action...

Mountain land is pretty good. It's an 8 player free for all type map with no story or special victory requirements. The only problem with it is that it contains too many artifacts and stat enhancing locations (particularly spellpower) and would be better if it were toned down somewhat. The author set player 8 as conflux but when I played I used the map editor to replace the conflux towns and dwellings with castle ones.

Fall and Rise of the Sharai (by Gwhenwyfar, the mastermind behind The Lord of War) is another amazing XL and really shows how deadly the Fortress can be when properly exploited. Toss in early access to barbarian territory (did someone say Ancient Behemoths? =)) and the masterpiece is served: so long wizzurds, 'nighty-'night knights

Nah, didn't finish it...
Beat that Rampart guy, all of Necros, forget to save frequently, got busted later and last save was with Rampart guy...and lost the will to play on...
But definately I'll try again...some day.

Sure, although I haven't tested it yet I'm not sure that the new version can be completed in 15 months. If you prefer, I can send you a version without the time-limit trick.
I think I have a decent savegame of Vengeance is Mine somewhere near the end, in Teal's territory...I can send it along as well if you like.
