speaking of deserts they said the desert orcs will be back! i hated the H6 jungle orc townscreen. and i think orcs will fare well in wasteland.
as for the academy i'd put it close to the desert but not too close since the orcs will be there.

I think their terrain will be like H3-H4 Stronghold, "rough" or however it was called.

Snowy wizard are better. No doubt.
Agreed! This solidarity was conveyed well in Skyrim, for those who played that.
I do like the desert though, but more for the barbaric tribes, etc. (i.e Game of Thrones, Dothraki)

This so much. I don't know why, but in any game that has a part in a desert enviroment, it's always the most boring for me.
Especially in games like Diablo and other ARPGs that have a desert act.
That's just what i mean^^ i had that for example in titan quest where there was this wonderfull greek lanfscape first and in the second part egyptian desert
And i'm not very happy with orcs and wizards beeing in a desert like surrounding this time, but i guess with Ashan's lore and stuff you can't put the wizards back into the snow, apart from it being already implemented of course

Specific ground is good when each different factions have their own.

Well they usually do, don't they? Except humans and elves always share the grasslands. And to me it was never clear whether Sanctuary & Stronghold had the same jungle terrain or not, especially because the long-discussed autumn plains were really just a counterpart for Haven's summer plains...

I guess people instinctively don't like places without water. And maybe they find that there are not so many things to explore in a desert, not a lot of objects to see, the heat, etc.

I kinda liked the deserts in H4. There was this nice effect of sand dunes reflecting the rays of sun. You could almost feel the heat One map was entirely covered in sand and it was really climatic. Many people found H4 graphics ugly, but I always thought it was the best part in franchise when it comes to map designs presenting some ecosystems...

I've spent the last few days reading all the previous posts in this thread and I'm not completely caught up yet but i gotta say that man you lot are entertaining. My favourite parts so far are the dude who wants all heros and units to be male...... I'll leave that alone, and also whenever there is speculation over something, Elvin poking his head in and stoking the embers haha, cracks me up.
After seeing how different everyones opinions are all I can say to Limbic is good luck because no matter what you do someone is gonna be pissed.

Yeah, reading these threads as a newcomer is... hilarious.
About us being pissed, well that applies to all of the games to be honest, you can't satisfy everyone.

H2 Desert and Swamps were the best parts !
I'm with Zeki for my dislike of heat, but despite this I really loved the D2 Desert Act. However, I seriously disliked the swamps in Act 3, was always happy when I finally reached the city of Kurast.

Oh yes, the Great Marsh could be a pain in the ass sometimes xD

Thankfully that's irrelevant in Heroes, since mapmaker can place many type of adv. locations in a desert zone (mines, dwellings, desert-related banks, oasis, etc...)

So, now Jezebeth instead being sent back to Sheogh by Kha-Beleth, was killed by Ivan Griffin? But now worry, she will be OK and will team up with certain knight during Clash of Heroes.

Doesn't that have to do with the fact that Demons never truly die?
