You are serious? There is no spoon 'slip', there is conversing normally or being weird. Try the former for a change, don't concern yourself with slips that are not there.

Your second post makes even less sense. If you want to learn the meaning of a word check a dictionary or find out what the other means, agree or disagree and move on with the topic than launching a pointless campaign of proving which definition is more correct. Didn't they teach you conversation at school?

With that I'm out, I've already wasted too much time here.

Ah but JJ, somethings that were thought 'nonsense' in the past turned out not to be nonsense in the least.  It was 'nonsense' that the world was anything other then flat.  It was 'nonsense' that the earth was not the center of the universe.  It was 'nonsense' that man would be able to fly...etc.  But I digress..please continue on the topic at hand.

If only there was some kind of Split Topic tool that mods have, so when people start getting off topic, which usually happens here, then the mod could just split the topic from where the off topic started from. May solve a lot of problems and people complaining of too much off topic stuff.

It would be even easier if those hardcore "flaws---where do you hide?" members just would overread those things and only answer to topic related points in a post. But this requires some self discipline..

Hypothetical example : a) I say that not much is known about the core of the Earth - it might even be possible that there was un underground world, a lost continent or something like that.
Someone else now comes in and says b) that would be impossible since the Earth is flat.
At this point I consider b) nonsense and therefore a dead end and not debate-worthy - but that doesn't make a) any more valid, and don't think for a moment I wouldn't know that.
Problem is, you answered to a statement "a)" with "NONSENSE" (just read back you posts, I think it was in the bigbang thread)). And that's why I said I don't know what reputation you have to call those things nonsense but yours valid. And until you show me your certificate "professor of astrophysics", your points and hypotheses are as full of sense as those from other members. Therefore, I think it is a provocation to call those things NONSENSE...and provocations are not allowed as stated in the CoC. Hope you get my point

Uh? Flaws are the biggest arguments one can have when disagreeing. If somebody proposes a theory (flawed at that), or else makes some assumptions (flawed as well), the best way to show why it's not going to work or is false, is to point out the flaws. After all, you can argue it to death without coming to any conclusion, but pointing out the flaws makes it at least less of an argument so the poster would have to come up with something else.

You may need to post something here to get a picture of that

Quote:
Try to make any statement that has the form:
A is B because of C (it can be as true as you like). Then let's see, how much rhetorical nonsense I can bombard that with.
Gravity is a spherical field around mass that attracts other such fields/mass, because of the observations we had and successful predictions.

Bombard it.

(did I misunderstand something? sorry )

Quote:
While I know for fact that you are right and I called some claims nonsense in one or more posts of mine, it wasn't in the BB-thread; I checked that. That one is pretty clean of everything.
Chances are it was in a discussion with Death, either in LGBT-thread or in the S&D thread, maybe even in both.
I'd like a real example here.
Yeah. Well I still dare you to post in other forums (like the asexual community) if you have the guts your 'theories' -- then you can say I and my sources are all nonsense.

I mean just look at the stuff and discussion in question. I say some things or theories (and drawing reasonable connections instead of saying "we don't know that; we don't know anything about the brain/whatever" like you do), you say it's nonsense. But when you say that without sex people can't be artists (biggest nonsense ever without any support), and you don't even dare to post this on the asexual forums to see what response you'll get, that is somehow not nonsense.
(can you imagine especially if we had asexuals here? that could be considered sexism, what you said )

Care to elaborate? Except the gravity thing of course, which was more of a joke -- but I admit I didn't actually get JJ's point at what he meant with that either.

See, debating gets on and on. I didn't say that asexuals COULDN'T be artists. I asked you to point one out to me.
Needless to say that I may have found one. Morrissey is supposed to be one - but even if you would accept that, with 1% of the population or even more being asexual, Morrissey constituates hardly 1% of the artistical population...

Now for your gravity example, that is bad. Gravity is still a rather contested field and not really explained, so that's not worth the while.

I thought more about something like, "John Lennon is dead because someone shot him" or something like that.

Yes exactly, in fact I could "bombard" the theory of gravity myself, but after all it just boils down to what you believe more. As long as both predict correctly, choosing one is a matter of belief. After all, you choose your own tools, so to speak

And you of course have a point with "not all being artists", but that's not worthwhile here -- because by that logic we could say "not all humans are artists, sexual or not, black or white, doesn't matter". And there's no point in it. Even if there, let's suppose, weren't any black programmers, it doesn't mean black people are incapable of programming computers (for example). It just happened to not be (then again, showing just one single black example is enough for proof -- not so for anti-proof)

This may be a noobish question, but I noticed this more and more in the OSM... Why does everyone think their argument magically gains credibility if they put "Period" after it?
Is it a lucky charm of sorts, is it specially designed to help practice the typing skills, is it part of some code language I don't understand...?
Perhaps the problem is in myself, but the moment I see someone using "Period." after a sentence, that person immediately degrades to the level of younger elementary school in my eyes. I mean, you might as well yell "Bang!" and say "I shot you! You're dead!"

It is to justify their emotional outbursts and babble attacks since you know... sort of an "explanation". When women have their period they aren't the cheeriest.

To be honest, I do not see a problem in discussing different political "directions" in different threads.
Just look up the library. You have an own "Best creature" thread for each level..

A poll refering to political direction would be interesting though...
