((FFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!))

"Ariados, stop! Don't go..." The sight of the Taskmaster's pokemon causes his next words to catch in his throat. "Ariados, use shadow step on the Machoke, Ralts use confusion on the same pokemon! Skarmory, peck it as well!" He sends out Lapras, since they are close enough to an enemy that its non-existent land speed didn't matter. ((Of course, that would be behind the other pokemon...))

Lisa has Slugma use yawn on the Steelix, Spheel use powdered snow on Steelix, Sandslash and Graveler, and Tunabu use Whirlpool on the Machoke.

Meanwhile...

Tom waves Brona on, and thinks that once these grunts go down (relatively quickly and easily, one would hope) that he will go help keep the PC secure. ((No, it has not crossed his mind that Bandra might still be in control of the center...)) He had Absol use Arial ace on the last Wispaferyn, Houndur use fire fang on the last magnemite, and Carvanha use aqua jet (I love this move!) on Mankey SW 1

Ivan calls for Spearow to use aerial ace on one of the Wispaferyns. Stacey follows suit, calling for Luxio to use Spark on the other Wispaferyn. She also calls for Grimer to hit Graveler with Mud Slap, Slugma to Yawn at any of the Sandshrews, and sends Mona in to use Acid on the Twiggins and the Graveler.

Misty:

The trainer opens his mouth to answer and appears to choke. He clutches his throat, inhaling with a wheeze, and tries to speak again only for the sound to come out as garbled gibberish. Horrifically, bits of his clothes and hair are flaking off his body—then he bursts like a glass ornament.

Where he stood, whirling in place is a cloud of reflective pieces that distort what they reflect—changing or inverting the color, stretching the shapes within or showing something completely different. Static that seems to eat at space blurs the spot, and light passing through behaves oddly, leaving it brightly lit one moment, and drenched in evening shadow the next.

Christian:

“Hey boss, you okaaaa--?”

The world spins sideways, dissolving into light, and you find yourself in a place with no ground or sky, empty save for yourself and a chaotic hole in nothing. A quick check of your person reassures you that you still have your Pokemon and equipment ((Pokedex, Potions etc…)) but when you look up you discover the hole is oozing toward you as if alive. A glob of static and mirror-shards engulfs your hand, and when it retracts the limb is stinging and tingling oddly—your skin eaten away by oddly colored space.

Main Group (everybody):

The pond in the center of town explodes violently, and between one breath and the next Bandra and all the Shadow Pokemon—and most of your allies ((puppets))—have vanished. The entire sky is now a flat gray: sunless and moonless but providing illumination as though it were converted into a dim overhead light, and nothing has a shadow anymore. There is no hint of breeze and the buildings in town have become oddly flat looking; the only things that look fully three-dimensional are yourselves—and a writhing cloud of static and broken pieces, which glitter and reflect like shattered windows into other worlds.

Mark (and Brona):

((I’m going to send Brona’s puppet over too. He isn’t going to make any difference to the other fight, but if you guys can get into the Pokemon Center he could get his Pokemon healed and help you out.))

Mark sends out Lapras! ((And just in time, too. ))

Mark calls for Ariados to use Shadow Sneak!
((Obedience Roll = 96))

It seems the Bug type’s bloodlust is up, because he just makes an irritated noise at his trainer and goes back to munching on the Grunt.

Onix uses Sandstorm!
A sandstorm brewed!

Sandslash uses Stealth Rock!
Pointed stones scatter over the field!

Machoke uses Bulk Up!
Machoke’s Attack rises!

Critical hit!
It’s super effective!

Tunabu uses Whirlpool! ((Roll = 37))
Machoke is hit for 4 damage!

Spheal uses Powder Snow! ((Roll = 6, 43, 28))
Steelix is hit for 8 damage!
Steelix was frozen solid! ((Nice roll! ))
Sandslash is hit for 18 damage!
It’s super effective!
Graveler is hit for 14 damage!
It’s super effective!

Slugma uses Yawn!
But it failed!

The Sandstorm rages.
Machoke loses 9 HP!
Ariados loses 4 HP!
Lapras loses 4 HP!
Ralts loses 2 HP!
Spheal loses 4 HP!
Slugma loses 4 HP!

Machoke takes 18 damage from Poison!

Machoke takes 9 damage from Whirlpool!
Machoke is trapped by Whirlpool!

You hear footfalls in the dark coming toward you; after a heartbeat they come into the light and you recognize two of your own party who had gone off for the assault on the helicopter. ((Brona, of course, and as mentioned his puppet.)) The Pokemon accompanying them slow as they run into the Stealth Rock already in place.

((Stealth Rock Roll = 5, 50, 66, 17))
Pointed stones dig into Magby!
Magby loses 12 HP!
Pointed stones dig into Rhyhorn!
Rhyhorn loses 4 HP!
Grimer avoids the pointed stones!
Pointed stones dig into Twiggin!
Twiggin loses 7 HP!

Spheal regains 4 HP due to held Leftovers!

Carvanha uses Aqua Jet!
Mankey SW 1 is hit for 20 damage!

Absol uses Aerial Ace!
Wispaferyn W 2 is hit for 77 damage!
It’s super effective!
Wispaferyn W 2 faints!

Both Dien’s Pokemon double-team the untouched Mankey ((SW 2)), Vibrava scoring a hit with Sand Tomb ((Roll = 18)) and Noctowl finishing it off despite the Fighting type using its held Iapapa Berry.

Natu uses Nightshade!
Mankey SW 1 is hit for 22 damage!

Mankey SW 1 uses Natural Gift!
Vibrava is hit for 35 damage!
It’s super effective!

Meowth uses Water Pulse!
Attack missed due to target KO!

Despite the type disadvantage, Cosmas knocks down the remaining Mankey with Faint Attack—sadly too late to keep it from doing damage. Tom’s Houndour finishes off the lone remaining Bandra Pokemon—Magnemite—with enough heat to melt its hide ((Type advantage AND held item boost AND Sunny Day AND Defense down four levels…yeah. )), and the Bandra Grunts scatter in confusion. The attacking force has thus gained themselves some breathing room.

((You may now run for the Center—unless you have other plans, of course. Transit time will be one round.))

Shadow Poochyena charges madly into Grimer!

As on previous encounters, the Shadow Pokemon show no regard for friend or foe. The Poochyena tries to tear into Stacey’s Grimer despite the latter being already unconscious, before the Poison type is hastily recalled.

Stacey’s Sandshrew lets out a piercing wail and rolls wildly at Stacey. It’s unclear whether he’s trying to attack her or if he recognizes her under the Shadowing, but he does knock into her leg with enough force to bruise.

Tom

((I think that Stacey might need a little help... Tell me if this works))

Tom starts heading back for the center in a very round-about way (to make sure no grunts are sneaking up around them, of course. No cowardliness/ laziness at all... )) when the sounds of a battle off to the side catch his attention. Now either that's shadowy things attacking Bandra, or that's Bandra attacking one of us, or any combination of the above... Damnit! And it was getting so damn dark too... But orders were orders, so Tom went over to check it out (with all of his pokemon at the ready, BTW. I'm guessing that it will take another round to actually get there, so hang on!)

Mark/ Lisa

They had barely scratched those pokemon with their combined assault! Sure, the Machoke was looking pretty sick, and the Steelix was frozen, but everything else looked absolutely superb. They had to knock these pokemon out some other way obviously. Mark looked over at Lapras, "Alright buddy, use sing on the Onix, Graveler and Sandslash! Skarmory and Ralts protect him! Ariados, use Shadow Step on the Machoke!"

Lisa blinked once at how ineffective everything had been, and has Spheal use Powdered snow again, this time on Sandslash, Graveler and Onix, Tunabu uses Flail on Machoke and Slugma uses ember on Machoke.

In addition he sent out Steelix in a desperate effort. "I am sorry Gengar, but I need you to use Curse on the Steelix!"

"Okay Raticate, quick attack the Cubone. Snorlax, body slam Wiliter. Mona, drain from houndour."

Ivan calls out his last pokemon as well, and has it use ancient power on the Poochyena.

Misty:

You manage to catch up to the Starlight Squad members outside of town. They appear to be standing sentry. On closer inspection, brush piles and other obstacles have also been moved into a defensive ring around town.

When you ask them for information about your friends, they just shrug at first, before the shorter of the two recognizes you as part of the group that helped with the Shrine of Light evacuation.

With a little more prodding, you are able to learn that the dark-haired girl and the girl with the Gloom ((Mina and Stacey)) were in the tower last night, one of the girls they picked up at the Shatterhigh Pokemon Center was seen hanging around with a young man with a sketchbook and a prosthetic arm ((Sarah and Mark)) and the boy with a Mark of Light ((Draloed)) was last seen in the Gym a few days ago.  Also, the kid with the Archeokat was taken to the hospital in Skybreak City—both Nurse Joys suspect pneumonia, which the Pokemon Center is not equipped to treat.

But it’s been at least a few hours since any of them were seen, and neither sentry is sure where any of them are now. ((Especially Draloed, since mamga seems to have bailed on us. ))

----------------

Tom:

((No problem at all. ))

Tom cuts around south past the buildings—incidentally this takes him around most of the Shadow Pokemon and the fires breaking out. There are Bandra Grunts here, but they’re out of Pokemon and scattering—the patrols on this side of town have been mostly wiped out, and you’re able to make surprisingly good time. The exception is a concentrated bunch over by the Daycare, where the Shadow Pokemon had been caged, and it’s there that you find Stacey and Ivan—battling it out with the last of their Pokemon, obviously in dire straights. One of the Shadow Pokemon has latched itself to Stacey’s leg and is screaming.

----------------

Mina and NPCs:

The remainder of the helicopter assault force rushes for the Pokemon Center, dodging fires and Shadow Pokemon as well as the occasional Bandra Grunt.

----------------

Mark and Brona ((and puppets)):

Brona arrives on the scene with his Pokemon, and one of the Starlight Squad. The latter is Pokemon-less and does his best to sneak into the Pokemon Center via one of the broken windows while the Taskmaster is distracted.

Brona sends out Gengar! ((Roll = 1))
Pointed stones dig into Gengar!
Gengar loses 10 HP!

As his prey isn’t moving any more, Ariados loses interest in the Grunt and pounces on his designated target instead. Meanwhile Mark’s Ralts and Skarmory take up protective stances near his Lapras, ready to intercept any attacks that come the Water type’s way.

Ariados uses Shadow Sneak!
Machoke is hit for 6 damage!

Gengar uses Curse!
Gengar put a Curse on Steelix!
Gengar loses 40 HP!
Gengar faints!

Onix uses Rock Tomb! ((Roll = 80))
Spheal is hit for 64 damage!
It’s super effective!
Spheal faints!

The huge Rock snake just barely clips Spheal with the end of its tail, sending the now-unconscious Ice type rolling.

Sandslash uses Fury Swipes! ((Roll = 8 – hit!)) ((Roll = 47))
Skarmory intercepts the attack!
Skarmory is hit for 8 damage!
Skarmory is hit for 7 damage!
Skarmory is hit for 7 damage!
Hit 3 times!
It’s not very effective…

Machoke uses Façade!
Ariados is hit for 346 damage!

The Bug type is sent flying with such force his carapace cracks on impact, and begins leaking fluid. His legs twitch but he doesn’t get back up.

Ariados faints!

Graveler uses Rollout! ((Roll = 47))
Ralts intercepts the attack!
Ralts is hit for 240 damage!
Ralts faints!

((Freeze roll = 56))
Steelix is still frozen!

Magby uses Leer!
Defense of all foes falls!

Twiggin uses Growl!
Attack of all foes falls!

Lapras uses Sing! ((Roll = 38, 15, 27))
Onix falls Asleep!
Graveler falls Asleep!
Sandslash falls Asleep!

Rhyhorn uses Tail Whip!
Defense of all foes falls!

Tunabu uses Flail!
Machoke is hit for 5 damage!

Grimer uses Mud Slap!
Graveler is hit for 7 damage!
It’s super effective!
Graveler’s Accuracy falls!

Slugma uses Ember!
Machoke is hit for 9 damage!

The Sandstorm rages.
Machoke loses 9 HP!
Lapras loses 4 HP!
Slugma loses 4 HP!
Magby loses 3 HP!
Grimer loses 5 HP!
Twiggin loses 3 HP!

Machoke takes 18 damage from Poison!

Machoke takes 9 damage from Whirlpool! ((Roll = 94))
Machoke is released by Whirlpool!

Steelix takes 38 damage from the Curse!

It’s about this time that the remainder of the helicopter assault force arrives. The Taskmaster looks uneasy before recalling most of her Pokemon ((all but Machoke)), turning to run—obviously trying for the healing machine before the reinforcements arrive—but the allied assault members only have time for a brief moment of horror before there’s a solid tunk of heavy plastic impacting a human skull. The Taskmaster falls flat on her back, revealing the Squad member who’d arrive Pokemon-less with Brona. He’s holding one of the plastic trays nurses use to hold Pokeballs, and quickly kneels to recall the Pokemon the Taskmaster left to guard her withdrawal.

“Get in! Quick!”

Twiggin SE 2 uses Magical Leaf!
Arkhiti is hit for 32 damage!
It’s super effective!

Luckily being a Rock type, the Sandstorm works in Arkhiti’s favor.

Wispaferyn SE 1 uses Tail Glow!
Wispaferyn SE 1’s Special Attack rises sharply!

Sandshrew S 1 uses Fury Cutter! ((Roll = 14))
Snorlax is hit for 5 damage!

Arkhiti uses Ancientpower! ((Roll = 33))
Shadow Poochyena is hit for 23 damage!

Shadow Houndour charges madly at Grunt SE 2!

One of the Grunts yelps and dances away from the snapping jaws of the Shadowed Fire type.

Graveler S 1 uses Flail!
Snorlax is hit for 5 damage!

It seems the Bandra Grunt with the Graveler doesn’t want to risk hitting his own side again.

Mona uses Mega Drain! ((Roll = 19))
Shadow Houndour is hit for 10 damage!
It’s not very effective…
Mona regains 5 HP!

Mona scores a lucky hit on the Fire type, and looks a little more energetic afterwards—though only a little.

Snorlax uses Body Slam!
Shadow Wiliter is hit for 131 damage!
Shadow Wiliter faints!

Sandshrew S 2 uses X-Scissor!
Mona is hit for 16 damage!
Mona faints!

Sandshrew S 3 uses Fury Cutter! ((Roll = 6))
Attack missed due to target KO!

Shadow Cubone uses Headbutt! ((Roll = 4))

That Grunt must have done something wrong, because the Shadow Cubone also tries to attack him—having a little more luck than the Houndour, it scores a hit, knocking the wind out of the Grunt and sending him landing on his rump, gasping.

Shadow Poochyena uses Howl!
Shadow Poochyena‘s Attack rises!

Your Sandshrew has wrapped himself around your leg ((as best he can with no front legs)) and is screaming shrilly at you. In the dark and flickering fires, you can faintly make out a figure approaching at speed from behind the Bandra forces.

The Sandstorm rages.
Raticate is buffeted by the Sandstorm!
Raticate loses 3 HP!
Snorlax is buffeted by the Sandstorm!
Snorlax loses 7 HP!
The Shadow Pokemon are buffeted by the Sandstorm!
Shadow Poochyena loses 2 HP!
Shadow Houndour loses 3 HP!
The Bandra Pokemon are buffeted by the Sandstorm!
Wispaferyn SE 1 loses 6 HP!
Wispaferyn SE 2 loses 6 HP!
Twiggin SE 1 loses 6 HP!
Twiggin SE 2 loses 6 HP!

Snorlax regains 7 HP due to held Leftovers!

Shadow Poochyena’s Shadow Gauge fell 2%!
Shadow Houndour’s Shadow Gauge fell 2%!
Shadow Cubone’s Shadow Gauge fell 2%!
Shadow Sandshrew’s Shadow Gauge fell 2%!

Mark recalls all of his pokemon and runs into the center, where he releases Lapras again to guard the entrance and heals up the rest of his pokemon. Lisa has Tunabu and Slugma guard the entrance as well. And the healing begins...

While he waits for everyone to get in, Mark says to Lisa, "We should make sure that taskmaster doesn't get away." And both go through the window to pick up their unconscious foe and bring her inside.

Tom cursed under his breath. Always someone... and of course it was two members from his squad. Of all the rotten... Fortune did smile on him ever so slightly though, as he had come up behind the grunts. Surprise attack! "Carvanha bite the grunt with the three shrews. Houndour, use fire fang the one with the Graveler, and Absol use quick attack on the last guy standing."

Misty thanks them, though their answers really are not much help.  Since the tower is the last place Mina was seen, that is where Misty is off to next.

Misty:

You head to the tower and go in.

The first room you enter has two exits besides the one you came in. One leads down into an obviously unused hall, where moss grows in the ancient carpets and roots protrude from the ceiling. The other door leads into a lobby, where you can see stairs leading up to the next floor at the far end. Between you and the stairs are human spirits dressed in old styles; they seem to be talking to one another. An old engraving decorates the wall opposite the hallway entrance, and you dimly hear speech coming from up the stairs.

Stacey looks at her sandshrew, a little puzzled and a little concerned.

"Are you...?"

Stacey tries to stand back up, but is still kept in her kneeling state.

"Snorlax, body slam Houndour! Raticate, repeat what you just did!" She isn't sure if this will work, or if this is what her pokemon wants of her, but she attempts it anyway. "Sandshrew, if you would please, use poison sting on that Poochyena."

Ivan wasn't sure what Stacey was trying to do, asking the shadow pokemon for an attack. He'd rather try and get the thing off her. He wasn't sure how, however. An attack against it would likely hit her as well. He calls for Arkhiti to repeat what it just did as well, in case the Sandshrew is unable to finish off the Poochyena, or won't.

Brona and Puppetman ((I named him myself)) healed up their pokemon as fast as possible and looked out the windows of the center, trying to take in how many of the Bandra members were still out there. Brona looked toward anyone nearby "Does anyone know how many are still out there?" he asked.

((quick question, will I be able to have my grimer use minimize and my twiggin use double team before we leave the center again, so that they will enter battle with evasion maxed out .. technically it should work, but I am curious if you allow it ))

"Huh?! What?" Christian turned to Rob "Ohh, yeah I am here, was just thinking." Christian got out of the jeep and looked at it "Yeah, leav1e it here." Christian turned to look at the three grunts "Now listen up Our mission is to locate and capture a man named Smith Blakes and bring him back to HQ. So we are going to do this in steps. Step one: Locate. Each of us will enter the town separately and blend in with the crowd. Don't make a fuss, and keep the fact that you are Brandra to yourself. When we are in town I want you to discreetly look for Mr. Blakes. Don't ask to many questions and don't look to suspicious. Act like you are in town for something completely different. Once any of you find Blakes, contact me over radio and I will tell you the rest of the plan from there." Christian paused for a minute before firmly saying "Understood?!"

Main Group:

Mark and Lisa drag the Taskmaster inside with little difficulty while the injured Pokemon are collected and run through the machine. Mina digs behind the front counter, cursing under her breath about not buying rope in Ternai before breaking off with a cheerful exclamation—she's found duct tape, and uses it to bind the group's captive and tape the Taskmaster's mouth shut for good measure. Meanwhile Sparky removes the Taskmaster's belt and Pokeballs and unceremoniously stuffs them in a cupboard out of sight—Dien oversees the whole process, still looking sour as always.

Brona and Puppetman (()) scan the exterior; it's dark outside, and the chaos of blazing fires and rampaging Shadow Pokemon makes visibility even worse, but nevertheless you can make out a handful of human figures headed toward the Center from the north, some sort of activity to the south by the spa, and a smaller group cutting from north to south across town ((not towards the Center in other words))...a brief flare of fire illuminates another Taskmaster's uniform among the last.

((As I said in the OoC, you have three rounds before the hammer comes down. Make'em count!))

----------------

Misty:

You pass through the room of spirits and climb the stairs, following the voices to the end of the hall.

There, a girl with a Chansey at her side is chatting casually with an older woman, the latter of whom seems to be in the midst of moving a load of cleaning supplies up the stairs. ((No elevators here. ))

----------------

Christian:

"Right boss!"

The three Grunts pull a bag out of the back seat—it's full of civilian-style clothing, which they don.

"Got your radios?" Rob demands of his fellow Grunts. Affirmation all around. He turns to you and salutes. "All set boss!"

((Let me know if you have any  more immediate instructions for them, otherwise I'll get your recon results up.))

Brona let out Magby, Grimer and Twiggin. "Alright guys, I need you right now! Magby, I need you to use smokescreen outside the Pokecenter door to give us a small edge against whoever might appear. Grimer, I want you to use minimize and Twiggin you use double team. Keep doing it, all of you, until they get here."

He stops for a moment, realizing he only need to heal three of his pokemon: Growlithe, Gengar and Magby. Then another thought strikes. "Does anyone have pokemon knowing the moves spikes, stealth rock or toxic spikes? We could really make this an unpleasant experience for the ones approaching if we set up a good defense!"
