“Also, the Spectral Region is divided into 7...um...how should I say...city-states, for lack of a better word. Each city-state is controlled by a Lord Pokémon. The city-state you would end up in if you take the convergence that will appear near here in 2 days is called...Pyrsltn. The overlord of that part of the region is ruthless and heartless.”
Was that what I saw? Mina wondered. The Lord Pokemon of this area’s Spectral side? Or one of his henchmen? Mina felt suddenly ill.
"He'll be fine. Spectral-Types don't suffer the same problem as non-Spectral Types do in the other dimension. However, his attacks will probably be weaker in this dimension than in the other one."
Mina smiled. “I can deal with that.”
"Well, you've had a run-in with a Shadow Pokémon before. That's what'll happen to all your Pokémon if they are exposed to the region too long. The Pokéballs give them protection, so it'd be best to keep them inside and send them out only in emergencies.”
Mina nodded, and made a mental note to check with the local nurse to see if there was any way to reverse Shadowing—just in case.
She hmm’d thoughtfully before reluctantly saying, “I can’t think of anything else at the moment, but can I come back and ask you if I think of anything else?”

She sits back down as you let yourself out of the tent.

Not one to pass up a free attack and a chance to paralyze the enemy (not to mention that Ghastly is about gone anyhow) Misty will seize the change. "I am sorry Ghastly, I know it's going to be hard, and it is going to hurt, but I need to keep you in. You can do it! Now Lick attack!" She knows she should get two in before the Sandshrew can do anything. That is a good chance of paralysis kicking in. She has to do as much damage as possible before it can move.

"Whoa!" she exclaimed as she saw her Zigzagoon facing off against a fairly menacing looking Pokémon. And quite suddenly, that menacing Pokémon attacked. She almost jumped between the two of them when she realized that her Zigzagoon was fairly likely to be able to handle itself.
"Okay, Zigzagoon, I want you to kick sand at it to... um... what?" she asked as it looked back and gave her a blank look, clearly confused by her orders. "Oh... fine, just give it a good knocking. Use that thick skull of yours, I'm sure it'll be hard enough to daze it..."
That the Zigzagoon did understand. It leapt forward and delivered a fierce headbutt to the Zangoose.

Mina (continued):
You make your way to the Pokémon Center.
As you enter the Pokémon Center, you notice that some nurses are running towards a room to the left of the entrance. A look through the transparent glass door reveals what is going on.
The corrupted Raichu has just gotten up and is struggling to break free of the bonds that keep her on the bed. The nurses start losing the struggle, until one of them decides to send out a Jigglypuff and Sing her back to sleep.
The Raichu falls back into a deep slumber, as the nurses make their way out of the room again.
The nurse at the counter looks at you and says, as if nothing had happened:
"Good afternoon! How may I help you?"
You go over to her and ask her about how to reverse the process of Shadowing. She replies:
"Well, we called the Pokémon Centers in Orre for a Purification Chamber. It should be arriving in about two days. Meanwhile, we have to keep that poor Raichu sedated. I feel sorry for her. The only other way to Purify a Pokémon is to keep it in your party and battle with it, but you run the constant risk of it disobeying and/or attacking you.

Convenient, Mina thought, but didn’t think it would be polite to come out and say so in light of the presence of Shadow Raichu. It seemed everything was going to happen just in time for the tournament to end.
Mina left the Pokemon Center and set off for a nice secluded spot to sit down. Mentally she listed off the things she would need to do before then.
Some time that evening she and the others would have to get together and plan their next course of action. She planned to take the convergence and go after Elder Roden after the tournament, and she was fairly certain Misty wanted to go as well, assuming the other girl hadn’t changed her mind in the mean time. The others might not want to go, however, and she wouldn’t blame them if that were the case; it was risky, and there was still the matter of Team Bandra in this dimension to deal with.
Mina also needed to text Dove and Fate and bring them up to speed, since as far as she knew neither of them had been let out of the Pokemon Center yet and wouldn’t be by the time evening rolled around and the rest of the group got back together. She was a bit hesitant to do this; if the two were still in no fit state to travel by the time the convergence formed they would have to be left behind for their own safety, something she doubted either of them would willingly allow provided they were conscious.
She also knew she needed to stock up on items before she left, and suspected the others might need to as well regardless of whether or not they were going. That might be a small problem as she hadn’t seen a Pokemart in town, but she made a note to look into it.
And speaking of items, Mina remembered, the group hadn’t had a chance to split up their loot from the Slashpeak Base yet; maybe they could do that tonight, if Dove and Fate could make it. Mina also made a note to direct whoever had the Blue Shards they’d found to pay Lily a visit. But that could wait until later.
She wanted to go watch her friends’ battles; she’d missed Draloed’s first match already, she didn’t want to miss the others too. But when she checked the time, there was almost an hour and a half before the next block of matches were to start. She had some time to kill yet.
Then it hit her, and she wanted to slap herself for not thinking of it right away. She unclipped Oodramer’s Pokeball (shiny and new, in sharp comparison to the rentals’ balls) and scanned it with her Pokedex. She was curious if Oodramer’s entry was going to come up unknown like Zorpaleus’ did.

“Oh hey, there’s an entry!” Mina mused. She looked up the data on Façade and Bubblebeam very briefly. I wonder what Vortex does…might be a good idea to find out; I have time…
Mina made her way unobtrusively away from town, out of sight of prying eyes. She called out her new Pokemon.
“Oodramer, can you show me Vortex?”

You send out Oodramer and have it use Vortex.
The Spectral Pokémon raises its hands briefly and then brings them down quickly, blowing up a gust of negative energy. The attack catches a nearby rock and "binds" itself to it. The rock quickly melts into nothingness.
The Pokédex examines the attack data and updates the entry:
Vortex
Type: Spectral
Power Points: 20
Attack Power: 30(60) ((Numbers in parenthesis denote the move's Power in the Spectral dimension.))
Accuracy: 100%
Description: Creates a gust of negative energy that damages and traps the victim in battle for 1-3 turns. Flying Pokémon/Levitaters/Other Spectral Pokémon are unaffected by the trapping effect.
The Oodramer then looks at you in a "What should I do now?" way.

The girl was thoroughly surprised by the Zangoose's attack. She had sized this Pokémon up and thought it to be only around five-sixths the power of her own, yet she knew a Zangoose had to be more experienced than her Zigzagoon to have learned Fury Cutter.
No matter, she thought, it won't get enough of them in for it cause any serious damage.
"Again!" she ordered, and her Zigzagoon repeated its headfirst leap.

Mina stared dumbfounded at where the rock had been before coming back to herself.
“Great job, thanks! Return!”
Mina stared long and hard at the Pokeball in her hand after calling the ex-fossil back. Maybe it was the Spectral type’s complete silence up to this point, or maybe it was the fact that the Pokemon was basically an ooze-monster raised from the dead (zombie! screamed the tactless part of her mind), but she was finding herself exceedingly creeped out. She had hidden it under bravado for Oodramer’s sake, but that was only a temporary solution, she knew. She would have to live with this unease nonetheless; she needed Oodramer’s help, and there was no way around it.
Maybe I’m just not used to him…
But even to herself, the excuse seemed feeble.

Mina went back to town and sat down by one of the buildings, in as shady a spot as she could find. It was time to update Dove and Fate; at worst, they would be asleep and the text message would sit on their Pokedexes until they woke up.

Don’t know when you’ll get this, but I thought I should update you on what’s been happening:
-We got text messaging! *waves*
-Me and some of the others have been picking up info on Bandra activity and Elder Roden. (Dove you were right: Roden wasn’t killed by Bandra, he got thrown into another dimension by one of his sons. Would have told you earlier but the nurses… :\) We’ve got a few places we can hit next; I’ll tell you more when you’re both better.
-Draloed, Stacey, Misty and I are in a tournament ATM; don’t know if the nurses told you about it.  Wish us luck!~
Mina debated adding more; about her new Pokemon, about being attacked by goons, about the Spectral dimensional convergence due to occur in two days…
No, she decided, the group as a whole had no set plans about the dimensional rift, and the goons had been thoroughly beaten. And she could always add an addendum later.
((Bulbapedia says the fourth-gen moveset for Zangoose has Fury Cutter as a starting attack.))

Several minutes pass as you sit in the shade. Suddenly, you hear a beeping sound coming from your Pokédex. You open it and read the following message:
Mina,
Nice to hear you guys are participating in the tournament. Well, I already knew that Stacey was in the tournament. I had to go help her out against a Bandra goon a while ago. Since then, I've been stuck here resting up in the hospital...I should be able to leave in about 2 days ((coincidence, or not? )). However, Fate isn't well at all. He's been in a coma since we've gotten here. I didn't want to tell you guys so you wouldn't worry, but you were all bound to find out soon.
I sure hope he gets better soon. 
I don't know if he's...
The message trails off there. You think she may have hit Send instead of completing her final thought, too painful for her to even consider.

((Odd. I checked and apparently Zangoose is caught wild in Diamond/Pearl at level 18, so that might have to do with it, but…hmm…anyone got Diamond/Pearl that can hatch one and find out?))

Deciding that diversionary tactics were in order, Mina continued. ~How did the battle go? Misty and I (plus that-one-girl-with-the-Buizel-I-can-never-remember-her-name) got in a skirmish with some goons earlier, but we wiped the floor with them. Also met Spencer; nice guy, Breeder, one of Roden’s sons. He beat off his brother (the one who threw their dad in the Spectral Dimension : P) while we clobbered the goons. ~

Misty hated what she would have to do next. Ghastly was going to be fainted anyhow, but that didn't make her feel any better. Still, she had no choice, she had to make this count, because she really needed to preserve Geodude and Growlith for as long as possible.
She pets the poor ghastly. "You have been great Ghastly, I really appreciate all your hard work. I need you to do something now, and I am sorry. I need you to put a curse on that pokemon. Ghastly.... Curse!"

Misty hang her head over fainting her poor gastly. She hated to have to do that, but she knew it was the only way she had a chance. She picked out a pokeball and sighed. "Your pretty tough, a very good trainer. It's going to come down to the wire. Good luck." Tossing out the ball she did the completely unexpected. "Growlithe go! Flame Wheel!"
