Alright. So Mark had been right. Which was great... but now came the deciding point. Telepathically, he tells his pokemon, <Tattersail, Magical Leaf again.> At this point, he figured that either the Aron tried that poisoning tactic again and lost now, or it used Dig to try and push for one clutch crit... the later of which would be much more risky for Mark, even if it was still a relatively small chance.

... What?

Wait. Pokemon could use held items in these battles. Pokemon could use berries. Oh yeah, now Mark felt like a proper idiot. Why did he have all of these berries if he wasn't going to use them? Oh, right... he was saving some in case Mina had needed to plant them. Stupid.

Well, now the shoe was on the other foot. This guy had clearly made a team that was cultivated for this type of battle, but hey, maybe Mark could get lucky and get a critical hit? <Alright 'Sail... Magical Leaf one more time.>

Let's check out that Unova fossil and see if any of my own items have any useful properties or if they're just good to be sold. Can this region rez fossils? Hmm.... I'd gander if there was a place possible for that it'd be under Bandra control....

Alright. Back to where he'd wanted to be, because this trainer got greedy with toxic instead of going for dig. <Okay, we're good now. Use Magical leaf until that Aron is down.>

Matt:

The fossil is round but otherwise featureless; a placard sitting next to it informs you that the species is unknown, and until recently it was thought to be an artifact of some kind, until it was shipped to the University of Helnith for study and some bright spark decided to test the thing for DNA and lo and behold: it used to be alive. There is no price listed – typical for a jewelry store.

You manage to flag down the well-dressed fellow behind the cases and ask him if he could identify items for you. He seems puzzled, but agrees. ((What would you like to know more about?))

----------------

Mark:

It’s difficult to tell for certain, but it seems like the cameras have lost focus on the match. These long, drawn out battles aren’t the sort of matches you usually see on television.

Aron uses Rest!
Aron’s HP was fully restored!
Aron is sleeping!

Tattersail uses Magical Leaf!
Aron is hit for 27 damage!

Aron still sleeps!

Tattersail uses Magical Leaf!
Aron is hit for 27 damage!

Aron still sleeps!

Tattersail uses Magical Leaf!
Aron is hit for 26 damage!
Aron faints!

The arena speakers announce your victory and the elevator moves you on to the next round.

((Heal your Pokémon y/n? Friendly reminder there’s a time penalty attached for doing so.))

Well, there was a chance that the next trainer he'd encounter was as bad off as him.

But taking that chance would be stupid, so Mark goes to heal his pokemon. Because both of his remaining pokemon were one hit away from going down, and pushing on despite that risk would be more brain dead than even Mark was normally to push on.

"Ah yes, thank you. I'd like to know about the Rare Bone, Damp rock, and this big shiny Pearl. How much might they be sold for if you'd be willing to buy them?"

The jewelry shop man has you take out the items in question so he can examine them.

Rare Bone: “This is definitely bone, and a very old one at that. Human, maybe animal. Definitely not a Pokémon bone. I can buy it from you for 5,000 PD.”

Damp Rock: “When Pokémon hold it and use Rain Dance, it will make the rain last longer ((8 rounds instead of the usual 5)). These are fairly common, so the most I can give you is 100 PD for it.”

Pearl: “It has a nice color, but unimpressive size, and doesn’t really have any use except to be decorative. I can give you 700 PD for it.”

----------------

Mark:

You heal your Pokémon up to full health and the elevator takes you to your next match. ((+1 round))

Once you and your next opponent are in place, heat lamps in the ceiling turn on, making the arena both hot and bright.

Your opponent sends out Kadabra!

((Sunny Day in effect.))

Fisher: 125/125
Tattersail: 96/96
Jessia: 93/93

Kadabra: 73/73

Jewelry shop man opens the case and checks the hidden tag. “300,000 PD. And I’m afraid we’re quite firm on that price.”

With that the jewelry shop man takes all three items and pays you. ((-1 Pearl, -1 Rare Bone, -1 Damp Rock, +5,800 PD, 11,900 total.))

Mark felt that heat and immediately set aside any idea of sending out his Lapras. The reduced damage made that entire prospect unviable. Instead, he tosses out Jessia and, upon seeing his opponent’s pokemon, tells the ghost type, “Let’s start this off with an Ominous Wind.”

Jessia uses Ominous Wind!
It’s super effective!
Kadabra is hit for 59 damage!

It’s a solid hit, but apparently not solid enough, as the Kadabra holds on to consciousness and fires back with ghostly energy of its own.

Kadabra uses Shadow Ball!
It’s super effective!
Jessia is hit for 87 damage!

Jessia staggers, and just barely stays in the air.

((Sunny Day in effect.))

Tattersail: 96/96
Jessia: 6/93

Kadabra: 14/73

Matt:

The next floor is dominated by electronics of all sorts – TVs, phones, earbuds, computer equipment – but what most draws your attention is an entire wall of SMs.

You also notice that the entrance to the seventh floor is blocked off and more surprisingly guarded, but the guards aren’t wearing any sort of uniform. Questioning the staff yields the information that they are members of the Skybreak City militia, and are using the roof as a lookout to keep watch for Bandra.

The SM selections, like nearly everything else in this Department Store, are scantier than they should be:

SM 16 – Natural Gift – 2,000 PD
SM 19 – Weather Ball – 3,000 PD
SM 23 – Hail – 2,000 PD
SM 24 – Fog Maze* – 2,000 PD

SM 30 – Flamethrower – 3,000 PD
SM 35 – Taunt – 1,500 PD
SM 36 – Mimic – 3,000 PD

SM 50 – Giga Impact – 7,500 PD
SM 51 – Hyper Beam – 7,500 PD
SM 57 – Psychic – 3,000 PD
SM 60 – Protect – 2,000 PD
SM 63 – Double Team – 2,000 PD
SM 70 – Dream Eater – 3,000 PD
SM 72 – Night Terror* – 5,000 PD
SM 75 – Explosion – 7,500 PD
SM 80 – Thief – 2,000 PD
SM 83 – Sun Lamp* – 2,000 PD
SM 89 – Chomp* – 3,000 PD

((DM Note: * = it’s a homebrew move.

Fog Maze – weather move. Makes it foggy for 5 rounds.
Night Terror – Ghost type, Special damage, does recoil to the user and they have to be asleep to use it.
Sun Lamp – Fire, Special damage, x2 damage during Sunny Weather. Pokemon with Chlorophyll are immune to damage, and receive the Speed boost they would get from Sunny weather for one round afterwards if it was not already applied (if it's not Sunny weather, in other words).
Chomp – Dragon, Physical damage, 10% chance to lower the target's Defense by one level.))

Well before I make any purchases I should probably see if the pokedex knows if any of my owned pokemon might be able to learn Sun Lamp or Thief, I'd imagine the Pyrofyl could learn it, but would it learn it on its own at some certain level?
