Misty:

With a yip, your Growlithe leaps over the boxes lining the floor and through the canvas cover, burning a hole through it. The flames spread rapidly while you untie the boy and soon the dry canvas has an opening big enough for you to escape through—fortunate, because the musty air is rapidly becoming too hot to breathe.

The wagon is shifting underfoot as you and Kyle leap free; the Tauros hitched to it are starting to panic due to the fire, and their adrenaline rush is enough to move the wagon in spite of its broken wheel. The Grunt trying to free them backs away as they stomp and rear dangerously, and the remaining wheels start to turn…

Inside, Hedge is still facing down Sandslash and is about to use Sand Attack again when his evolved form strikes.

Sandslash uses Rollout!
Hedge takes 17 damage!
It’s not very effective…

The force of the attack (doubled thanks to Defense Curl) is enough to knock both Ground types out of the wagon as well. Hedge bounces off the sky-scanning Grunt’s head (knocking the man down if not out) before landing and deftly turning a Sand Attack back the way he came. Now that he’s out of the confines of the wagon, both of the Tauros and the Sandslash are caught in the attack.

Hedge uses Sand Attack!
Tauros’ (1) Accuracy falls!
Tauros’ (2) Accuracy falls!
Sandslash’s Accuracy falls!

The Sandslash’s trainer has managed to escape the now merrily-blazing wagon; he and the Grunt who tried to free the Tauros share a grim look. The former orders his Sandslash after you while the latter calls out to the Tauros. The two Normal-types lurch into motion on the edge of panic, still dragging the blazing inferno behind them, as the Sandslash curls up for another Rollout.

Hedge: 20/37
Growlithe: 50/50

Sandslash: 88/88 (Defense up 1 level, Accuracy down 2 levels)
Tauros 1: 80/80 (Accuracy down 1 level)
Tauros 2: 80/80 (Accuracy down 1 level)

----------------

Stacey:

Fearow uses Leer!
Slugma’s Defense falls!

The Fearow swoops past, leering down at you, and you notice a thin black band around its leg. You barely have time to see the small, spiky letter ‘B’ emblazoned on the band before the bird soars by you. Your Pokemon retaliate as it comes around for another pass.

Grimer uses Disable! ((Roll = 24))
Fearow’s Leer was disabled!

Slugma uses Yawn!
Slugma’s Yawn made Fearow drowsy!

The Fearow screeches indignantly and dives at you again.

Knowing that she can't just leave little hedge to it's fate Misty recalls it as she runs.  She runs along the path trying to keep up with the Tauros.  As much as she hates to do this, she can't just leave them to get hurt in the fire she started.  "Growlithe use flamewheel on the yoke, help those Tauros out!" Remembering the little bug on her shoulder, she gets an idea.  "Hey, does this little er guy, um gal, whatever know smog?  If so have it use it to cover our tracks!"

Stacey tries to look around, through the smog, to see if there are any Bandra grunts coming into the area.

Misty:

Kyle shakes his head as the two of you run after the burning wagon.

“No ma’am, just Bide and Tackle.”

The Tauros charge west along the little two-track that passes for a road. Only the weight and drag of the wagon is slowing them down enough for you to keep up, but as things stand, Growlithe is faster. They veer left, bellowing with fear as your flaming dog Pokemon scorches through the straps of harness holding them to the wagon. Now free of the extra weight, both Normal types take off at break-neck speed through the woods, while the Grunt who tried to untie them originally chases after them, shouting.

Now bereft of the forces pulling it, the wagon curves on its bad wheel and hurtles off the road into the trees. The bad wheel catches on a dip in the earth and the whole thing tumbles over on its side, spilling charred boxes and their contents all over the forest floor. What is left of the canvas cover disintegrates. Your Growlithe barely manages to avoid being run over by the runaway wagon—

((Roll = 48))

—only to be knocked senseless by a ball of brown spikes.

Sandslash uses Rollout!
Growlithe is hit for 146 damage! (())
It’s super effective!
Growlithe faints!

Hedge (Recalled): 20/37
Growlithe: 0/50 (Fainted)

Sandslash: 88/88 (Defense up 1 level, Accuracy down 2 levels)

----------------

Stacey:

Smog obscures your vision and you don’t have the Fearow’s keen eyes, but as far as you can tell there is no one approaching you, Bandra or otherwise. The Fearow makes another pass.

Fearow uses Fury Attack! ((Roll = 46))
Slugma is hit for 28 damage!
Grimer is hit for 19 damage!

Fearow jabs at your Pokemon twice before they’re out of reach of its sharp beak; they attack quickly in response.

Grimer uses Pound!
Fearow is hit for 5 damage!

Slugma uses Rock Throw!
Fearow is hit for 7 damage!
It’s super effective!

The large Flying type is blinking sleepily now, and its wing beats have grown slow and lethargic. All at once its eyes fall shut and it glides unconscious to the ground, skidding over rocks and dirt before coming to a halt. It’s asleep.

Slugma: 7/35 (Defense down 1 level)
Grimer: 28/47

Fearow: 84/96 (Sleep)

----------------

Brona:

The old woman nods, and smiles absently at you.

“Yes, trainer, Ghost-types.” Her expression turns aggrieved and she mutters something that sounds like “ball-less barbarians” and “wish they would leave us” before she addresses you again, quite cheerfully. “Would you like a luncheon young trainer? You look quite famished.”

"Sorry to say, but I think this should be the time we run away. No telling how long it'll be asleep, and we can't handle such strength just yet. Grimer, Slugma, return!"

Stripes looks shocked that you don’t have to be dragged away from the fight by force, but still manages a Sand Attack just before the Sandslash recovers from its last attack.

Stripes uses Sand Attack!
Sandslash’s Accuracy falls!

Sandslash uses Rollout! ((Roll = 89))

Stripes leaps aside at the absolute last minute—Sandslash, eyes watering from so many Sand Attacks, cannot readjust in time and goes rolling off course. It crashes into a tree, the force sufficient to splinter the trunk and send the tree crashing to the ground. You run for it, Kyle and Stripes following behind. The voice of the Sandslash’s trainer can be heard through the trees as the Ground type picks itself out of the mess of splinters it made, but by the time it’s sorted out you’re long gone.

((Where to?))

----------------

Stacey:

You make your way away from the Fearow as fast as possible. Eventually you hear it awaken with a shriek and take off, but by then it’s out of sight. You retrace your steps back to the clearing where you found the sandwich and then back to the clearing Salerdia dropped you off in; near as you can tell the Fearow hasn’t followed you.

Kyle informs you there is a Pokemon Center south of Dewdrop and that it isn’t far from his house, so you head toward it, going west until you hit the main road, then south.

“Yes Misty ma’am, I’m fine.” His Pokemon doesn’t seem to believe this, and takes the opportunity to switch humans while Hedge covers your tracks. The little Fire type crawls around on him, presumably looking for injuries, while he continues.

“I think they were stealing Pokemon,” Kyle tells you when you ask about the Grunts. “I saw one of them messing around in those boxes and some of them had Pokeballs in them.”

Misty lets out a explitive and suddenly reverses corpse.  "Go on to Town, I HAVE to see if those pokemon are ok!  Shoot, shoot, shoot.  Come on stripes, we have to go back.  Looking at the ball with Growlithe in it she says "I am sorry, but you are gonna have to just wait to get healed." Guilt filled her body.  She probably permanetly harmed, or worse, those poor pokemon.  Before she forgets "Here is your friend." She hands him the bug pokemon and takes off as soon as she could.

As she runs she brings out her Pokedex and types "Team Banda near where I am, stealing pokemon!" She further explains where she is.  "Need all the help I can get!" she sends it to everybody on her pokedex list.

((So where was I now? Oh yes—))

Mina:

The Natu, seeing that the opposing Pokemon now consisted of nothing but Normal types, let out trills of irritation. As one they broke off their attack and fluttered toward the pair, readying Peck.

“Hang on guys!” Mina called.

Pidgey uses Sand Attack!
Natu A’s Accuracy falls!
Natu B’s Accuracy falls!
Natu C’s Accuracy falls!

Two of the Natu struck next, managing to land their hits in spite of the sand. Oodramer and the Paralyzed Natu finished off the round.

Natu B uses Peck! ((Roll = 80))
Oodramer is hit for 8 damage!

Natu C uses Peck! ((Roll = 6))
Pidgey is hit for 11 damage!

Oodramer uses Façade!
Natu A is hit for 11 damage!

((Roll = 56))
Natu A uses Peck! ((Roll = 86))
Pidgey is hit for 11 damage!

Mina took a look at her Pokedex to weigh the results.

Pidgey: 29/51
Oodramer: 48/56

Natu (A): 21/41 (Paralyzed, Accuracy down 1 level)
Natu (B): 41/41 (Accuracy down 1 level)
Natu (C): 41/41 (Accuracy down 1 level)

She summed up the results in her head with a frown. Looks like we’re going to have to take this up a notch. “Pidgey, Gust now! Oodramer, Bubblebeam!”

While Mina ordered her Pokemon on the offensive, the Natu trilled among themselves and seemed to have cooked up a plan. All three of the tiny little birds focused their dark-eyed stares on Oodramer as the two Normal types attacked.

Pidgey uses Gust!
Natu A takes 15 damage!

Natu B uses Leer!
Oodramer’s Defense falls!

Natu C uses Leer!
Oodramer’s Defense falls!

Oodramer uses Bubblebeam!

The Paralyzed Natu took one look at the stream of bubbles headed its way and Teleported to safety. Mina breathed a quiet sigh of relief; she didn’t really want to knock them out—she had no idea what would happen to a wild Pokemon left unconscious in the middle of nowhere.

“Good job, my dears, now again! Gust, Bubblebeam!”

The remaining Natu decided to take advantage of Oodramer’s Leer-induced unease to dive in for Peck attacks in the face of the trained Pokemon offensive.

Pidgey uses Gust!
Natu B takes 15 damage!

Natu B uses Peck! ((Roll = 91))

Oodramer leaned aside, sending the second Natu—her Natu—tumbling to Mina’s feet. It fluffed itself indignantly as Mina watched amused, before rejoining the fray with a trill.

Attack missed!

Natu C uses Peck! ((Roll = 41))((Roll = 2!))

The third Natu used the distraction to leap high into the air, using its stubby wings for extra lift. Once it was above the ooze-like Pokemon’s head, it spun downward to deliver a devastating Peck attack right between Oodramer’s eyes. The attack was unexpected and severe, and the Spectral type visibly reeled.

Critical hit!
Oodramer is hit for 30 damage!

Oodramer!” Mina called out, suddenly panicking. She grabbed his Pokeball.

Oodramer uses Bubblebeam!
Natu B is hit for 20 damage!

“Return!” Mina called him back. The Leers from earlier were really starting to show, and he wouldn’t be able to stand another round of attacks. “Pikachu, you’re up again!”

Oodramer vanished into his ball to be replaced by the Electric type.

“Poor Oodramer,” Mina addressed the ball on her belt. “You keep getting pounded.” Louder, she added, “Pidgey, Gust—no, on that one!” Mina corrected when he moved to attack the second Natu. Confused, he did as instructed. “Pikachu, Thundershock on that one as well!”

Pidgey uses Gust!
Natu C takes 17 damage!

Pikachu uses Thundershock! ((Roll = 64))
Natu C takes 21 damage!
It’s super effective!

Natu B uses Night Shade!
Pikachu is hit for 15 damage!

Natu C uses Night Shade!
Pikachu is hit for 15 damage!

Little birds are smart, Mina reflected. They hadn’t wasted time trying that super-Night Shade they’d used earlier, probably guessing (correctly) that Mina would just switch out again, and they went straight for the Electric type. With a non-contact move, no less, although that might have been coincidence.

Mina glanced down at her Pokedex and made a decision. One more round ought to do it.

“Pidgey, Quick Attack that one!” Mina hastily dropped her pack and rummaged around for an empty Pokeball.

Pidgey uses Quick Attack!

The third Natu stared at the rushing bundle of brown feathers headed towards it and vanished, just as the first had. Pidgey swooped around with a flourish of his wings and came back. Pikachu looked back and forth between her opponent and her trainer and finally sat on her haunches to watch what happened next—she was hurting and she hadn’t gotten an order, so she wasn’t sure what else to do.

The middle Natu—her Natu—spotted the empty ball in Mina’s hands and hopped in place, as if to say, “Bring it on!”

Mina threw the ball. Natu was engulfed.

((Roll = 100))

Almost instantly the ball popped neatly in half and Natu was out again. It celebrated by attacking Pikachu with a savage Peck.

Natu uses Peck! ((Roll = 40)) ((Roll = 59))
Pikachu is hit for 8 damage!
It’s not very effective…
Pikachu faints! ((So much for ‘not very effective’ ))

“Pikachu!” Mina cried out as the little Electric type was knocked unconscious with a pained “cha!”

Natu was doing a little victory dance. It would have served it right to get Paralyzed by Pikachu’s Voltage, but no, the lucky little git hadn’t even gotten hit by that.

Mina recalled her fainted Pokemon. “You are getting to be more trouble than you’re worth, you know that?” she addressed the little green Flying type.

Natu trilled, its tone seeming to say, “I know!” Its eyes were closed happily. Feeling spiteful, Mina fished another Pokeball out of her bag, and threw.

Natu was engulfed again—

((Roll = 100—!!! You have got to be kidding me!

*re-rolls*

89…Grrr…))

Pop! Out again. Natu trilled a Lucky Chant, its voice mocking. Pidgey had perched in a nearby tree and was watching dumbfounded.

Going to have to tell dad to tell his boss their Pokeball standards are slipping, Mina thought darkly. She fished out a Great Ball this time and threw.

A third time Natu was engulfed. The ball shook once—

—twice—

—a third time—

DING!

“YES!”

Mina did a little victory dance of her own as the Pokedex scrolled through the usual “do you want to give a nickname…” text. Pidgey cooed happily and came to perch on her shoulder, feathers puffed up contentedly.

I’m going to get a dozen of those balls next time I hit a Mart!

At last she wore out her excitement enough to sit down at the base of a tree; a good sturdy maple. “I’m going to have to find a Pokemon Center for you guys now, huh?” she addressed Pidgey. That might be a problem; as far as she knew, the only nearby Centers were in Hillsbreak and the little village where the Battle Festival had been held. The former she knew to be Bandra occupied, the latter might not even be standing now (curse Selene!).

“Do you want out for a bit or do you want me to carry you?” Mina asked her starter, holding out his ball. He cocked his head consideringly at it, seemed to weigh his own injuries versus the urge to go flying through the trees, and finally tapped the button with his beak, recalling himself. Mina chuckled and stood, deciding that she’d better find the road if she were to have any luck at all in finding a Center, and set off.

After perhaps an hour of wandering through Dewdrop, she got Misty’s text.

----------------

Misty:

Kyle blinks as you dash off back the way you came. “Yes Misty ma’am! Do you want me to—” you vanish around a corner “—err—nevermind…”

There is no response at all from Draloed or Christian ((Draloed being locked up in Hillsbreak until tomorrow, and Christian being asleep, but of course you don’t know that IC)). Dove and Fate are likewise silent, though as they’re probably in Siltis by now any help they could give would be too late in any case. Mina’s reply is just one word:

Coming.

Misty, Stacey and Mina:

The first sign Misty sees of Mina is her Pidgey, flying overhead. He cooes loudly to get her attention and flies off north, the direction she was already travelling in. Stacey heads south and west until she reaches the road, and soon after meets up with Misty going north. The pair of them encounter Mina just south of where the two-track joins the main road, after a couple of flybys from Pidgey between them.

"I got your text," Mina says without preamble. Her Pidgey lands on her shoulder; up close, he looks a little battered, but not terribly so. "What are we dealing with here?"

----------------

Brona:

"Not far, young trainer," she assures you. In reply to your question, she answers, "I live here. Nice and quiet, not too many visitors." She mutters something more about troublemakers and bad-mannered brutes before continuing. "Follow me, trainer."

She leads you back into the mist, still muttering to herself sporadically. The trip is short but disorienting; the trail seems to be flat and more-or-less straight when you walk on it, but a glance back reveals a path with more twists than a bag of pretzels. A glance forward shows nothing but increasingly thick fog.

At last you arrive at what must be the old woman's residence. The haze seems to have cleared around it, and it looks to be about what you'd expect for a single older woman living alone; single-storied, with a small, neat yard cleared of underbrush, and small gardens containing plants suitable for the climate around the edges of the building. The house itself appears clean and well-kept, and the windows glow cheerily from within.

The old woman gets the door and gestures you in. Directly inside is a sitting room; two couches and a reclining chair, all very plush and cozy-looking, surround a very tasteful rug. Fine curtains frame the windows, and a fireplace and mantelpiece--complete with crackling fire--take up most of one wall. And sitting in front of the fire, wrapped in blankets, is an egg.

"Make yourself at home, trainer," the old woman tells you. She bustles into the nearby kitchen and soon after you can hear the clatter of plates and the thunk of cupboards opening and closing. Every now and then a piece of the old woman's bitter monologue drifts out of the kitchen.

"...nasty monsters, ball-less miscreants, not that I'm any better any more..." Her voice starts out mournful as she speaks, and then turns savage. "...Bandra fools smashed the ball...but we will manage, yes we will...not going to let them hurt Junior, no no...have help now..."

After a moment or two you realize the old woman's speech isn't the only thing permeating the air; there is also a faint but definite smell, like rotting meat.
