There are quite a bit of recent talk about how the allies commited a lot of atrocities in berlin and on their enemies overall
of course there wasnt the geneva convention arguing about civilians yet, and there wasnt any international law. As if that somehow made it better i dont know but people seem to say so.

Geneva convention is a very positive thing when it's written on pages. Show what of it is done on the battlefield.

Thought about putting this in a new thread, for it is way offtopic, yet..not.

It is funny how peoples perceptions color their thoughts.  Allow me to give some examples.  Before I do, I want to make sure some things are clear.  I am not a racist, sexist, or fear/hate monger.  I'll elaborate later on this later.

A African-American (to be politically correct ) comedian makes fun of a Caucasian and it is funny.  A Caucasion makes fun of anybody BUT another Caucasion he/she is a rasist.

Abortion clinics are murderers, but those who blow them up (and take lives) are heroes.

Somebody kills your countries non-combatants they are terrorist.  Your country kills some other non-combatants they are 'unfortunate collateral damage'

A man goes out and kills 100 people and is not in the military he is a mass murderer.  A man goes out as a soldier and kills 100 enemies, he is a hero.

Somebody dies for your faith he is a Martyr.  Somebody dies for another faith they are an infidel.

Somebody has faith they are delusional.  A miricle happens (and passes a few tests) those tests are flawed and must be redone.  How many tests?  When does it end?

Somebody thinks your way they are rational and well informed.  Somebody disagrees with you, they are uneducated/misinformed/deluded.

When do we finally draw the line?  Where is the point we realize that we all come from the same place.  Regardless if that is apes, god, or the flying spegghetti monster it doesn't matter.

You'd think by now we'd have gotten over such petty things.  That we would have come along far enough to say.."Enough. Lets put aside our difference and work together for the betterment of EVERYBODY."

You're talking 'bout Israel, aren't you?

Nope, seems more to be NPOV-neutral point of view but actually she should answer that.

I always asked my self why do nto the sheiks or wahtever they are, help palestina or lebannon to rebuild or health care?

PSff topic,Faith the avatar you have represents unlife and immortality in the W40k universe and is the symbol of the Necrons(much like undead).Does not seem to represent your image that good either but let that be my humble opinion.

Yes Seraphim, it is a NPOV.  Too few people in the world are tolerant of everybody.  Even I am not immune.  Sadly I am not very tolerant of nontolerant people.  I do try to work on that tho..but I have not yet reached perfection.

As to the topic at hand, it is a deep wound that has been around for a very long time.  That means it is not going to be fixed over night, maybe not over the course of 100 years.  Which is sad, because the children, and the children of those children are the ones who suffer the most.

I wonder how many actually know why they are still fighting?  Or even better, I wonder how many people actually stop to think they are only killing their future?  But really, couldn't that be said of us all?

Israel fights to survive. Sometimes it also fights to weaken the terrorists.
The Palestinians fight because they want the land.

Why do the United States fight for? And the Arab states?

Your self-righteousness amazes me sometimes, GL. We're fighting for the land just as the Palestinians or else we would've returned everything including Golan and East Jerusalem a long time ago.

And where would we go to, if we returned our land? There are 19 Arab states, and 1 Jewish state. Giving up Israel means killing ourself as a nation. So yes, keeping it and fighting for it is fighting to survive.

I didn't say give up Israel, I said give up Golan and East Jerusalem, you know - return to the borders of 67. By the way, I'm not saying that it's what we should do, I'm just poiting out that 'land' is just as important to us as to the Palestinians.

GL, I am not saying that there is not a reason for fighting.  Nor am I saying who is right and who is wrong.  You have to admit, however, that as long as people are dying it is the future generations that suffer the most.  Especially the children.  As I said, this will not be settled any time soon, and any country that wants to commit genecide I am against.

Believe me, my people know what it is to have our land stripped from them. I hope everything comes to the point were everybody can be happy with a specific agreement.  I don't see it anytime soon however.

You know that USA is the biggest jewish country in the world, right?

That kinda negates the 19 arab states.

Jewish can immigrant from USA to Israel freely, but they can't immigrant from Israel to USA.
According "Law of Return", any Jew who wants to live in Israel (except of convicted criminals) gets Israeli citizenship immediately.

It's good to have a state like Israel, that takes care of the jews.
USA has too many problems of its own to take care of us. We need a state of our own.

This law of return is a law the Palastinans are trying to cancale, with every year more and more jewish civilians reside in our country, the palastines view it as a threat.
Why should we return the borders of 67? its like if for insteance russia will demand the borders of 1918 with poland and finland, would it be okay or not? a nice compersment eh? USA fights for a foot step in the middle east, israel is soly bant on usa and is along with turky only suportment in the middle east. russia has the rest. Russia contacts with Iran, made her popular among the arab counterys, they do buisness.
I agree that the land given to palastinans is not enought to pupulate the mass ,but if we open the gates do we have a way to know for sure that they dont hazzard our civilans?
Im not Delusinoal. There are Casuals on both but IT HAPPENDS in war.

Sigh... All one needs to do to get depressed is to browse through the Middle-East section of the news.

Gaza remains the biggest prison on earth. But at least now the Israeli Supreme Court has called on the government to reconsider its almost total ban on Palestinian students leaving the Gaza Strip to study abroad. A member of the court hearing the petition said Israel's policy was harming "any chance of coexistence" between the Jewish state and its neighbours in Gaza. Human right groups and some Israeli politicians have described the policy of not letting the students out as "collective punishment".

On Friday US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice has promised to investigate the withdrawal of the scholarships. The prestigious Fulbright scholarships are run by the US state department.  "If you cannot engage young people and give complete horizon to their expectations and to their dreams, then I don't know that there would be any future for Palestine or, frankly, since I believe the two-state solution is so important to Israelis and Palestinians, to the people of that region who want to have decent lives," Ms Rice said.

Quote:

Why should we return the borders of 67?

"Determines that all measures taken by Israel to change the physical character, demographic composition, institutional structure or status of the Palestinian and other Arab territories occupied since 1967, including Jerusalem, or any part thereof, have no legal validity and that Israel's policy and practices of settling parts of its population and new immigrants in those territories constitute a flagrant violation of the Fourth Geneva Convention relative to the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War and also constitute a serious obstruction to achieving a comprehensive, just and lasting peace in the Middle East."
