So would you always pick enlightment no matter what faction you play?

I most certainly would. Unless like Elvin said you plan to bumrush him with Sylvan.

Ha! Ha!

So one should always go for enlightenment.

Then, if you're up against might factions -> get defense
And if you're up against magic factions -> get luck/leadership

My rule of thumb.

I think I've just noticed something about stronghold.

life drain will drain life even if the damage is absorbed by blood rage

at least I know why jaba's vampiric demons just wouldn't die. seriously, I was like "wth??" when his archdevils killed only 6 of my warmongers, and 2 of them got resurrected.

If life drain has been performed on your orcs, then they will lose 90 rage points too...

It is possible that the rage reduction comes first which explains the increased dmg/drain but I have not checked it.

The rage reduction comes afterwards, as Fauch mentioned the devils only killed 6 warmongers, so the rage worked here.....

Life drained equates to half the damage inflicted....so the damage inflicted could have been alot but the rage of the warmongers only allowed the damage to kill a few troops....

True, and good point, but I should just emphasize the principle

Rage stopped warmongers from losing too many troops, but vampirism still favored the attacker in terms of damage dealt or should I say, what would've been dealt.

@Elvin:

You know your TOH Duel 1.2 Map.....it seems like Haven might be overpowered with being able to train an extra 20 paladins....

Having two stacks of 20 paladins just kicks any factions butt....

Are there any strategies to combatting Haven with trained Paladins?

Yes, follow the rules Just like I have set a rule for maximum artificer lvl 2 I have a rule for maximum paladins. On a real map things are a little different but normally if the opponent gets too many paladins it is your own fault for not engaging him sooner. If he does manage to get a powerful paladin stack the usual approach is to try surrounding it so that it cannot move around freely nor get a charge bonus. A funny approach is motw and wasp swarm, unless they are hasted they will likely never act again Pretty situational though as the other stacks can normally tear you to shreds while you are busy wasping the paladins.

Edit:

It is always possible that the map is not balanced. Some racials have no failsafe and get as strong as the map allows due to gold/resource/neutrals distribution.

Ah I understood the rule to be you can't train more than 25 paladins, not that you can't have more than 25 paladins....ie. you can only train to 7 paladins if you recruit all 18 paladins in town....shot though....my mates I and I are loving the duel map...

If you try the epic version you can train up to 10 palies for a max of 32 More army and more available artifacts is fun, not sure it offers a better balance though. Cannot remember if it has the same edits as the latest version, doubt it. Still worth trying if you want a change.

so, round two in the inferno vs haven tactics.

when inferno goes a build of

Expert Dark Magic with Master of Mind and Master of Curses
Expert Attack with Battle Frenzy and Power of Speed
Expert Defense with Vitality
Expert Luck

unit combination is: Familiars,Horned Grunts,Firehounds,Succubus Seducers,Hellmares,Pit Spawns and Arch Devils.

i cannot find single method to beat it with haven. inferno will win 85% of time and only time it might lose is if haven gets lucky enough with might build to destroy most stacks before they gate.

most of the time inferno can even get unlucky with spells and still win. and if it gets forgetfullness, suffering and weakness all, it will win for sure.

ive tried pretty much everything against it: Might build(leadership, attack, defense, luck) Might with Light Magic(Leadership,Attack,Defense,Light Magic) Might with Dark(Leadership,Dark Magic,Attack,Defense) Enlightment with Dark or Light(Light/Dark Magic,Enlightment,Attack,Defense) even war machines even though that was mostly joke

Ive tried splitting paladins, all kinds of different unit combinations and still i cannot win most of the time.

Biggest chance to win is usually with Might build since i can get lucky enough to win at first round and with Enlightment build since it gives my hero ability to keep units in the game much longer and counter the dark magic.

so is inferno suppose to have such heavy advantage at this or am i just so newb that i cannot see somekind of solution?

Can go either way due to the game's chaotic nature. Inferno is by no means an easy opponent but it's winnable, look me up when I'm online.

sure thing, would be nice to get some tips from you by playing

and yeah, chaotic nature affects alot indeed. nothing pisses me off more than seeing hellmares pull off lucky strike+fear on paladins or griffins as first thing in the match lol.

i should add to that though btw that this inferno build is the only one i have huge troubles with. everything else i can beat usually atleast 50% of the time about.(depends on the "chaos effect") ive seen/tried alot of builds with inferno aswell and no other has given me this much trouble. it's basically either enlightment or loss.

@Deathy, I haven't seen any further reply here, so I hope you have your answers.
If you don't have your answers, I'd be game if you would like to try some haven v inferno matches this week (I've been busy)
[I have thought & practiced many many times too, more than haven v dwarves ...but it would be easier to defeat me than Elvin]

Can anyone help me with something here:

How to win with Fortress against Naadir from Necro, now Naadir has ability where if enemy stack dies, it gets replaced by a stack of ghosts....now Necro needs a long game and these extra bonus of ghosts just help the long game for them to win...

Are there any strategies for dwarves to use against this? It seems to be that Naadir on the duels is a little too imbalanced...?

Sorry, this applies to the TOH duel maps....

Dwarves vs necro is never an easy matchup but some fortress heroes have better specialties than Naadir's anyway. What's your problem? Dwarven troops take ages to die, he cannot overwhelm you with ghost stacks anytime soon Just buff yourself to death, preferably with dwarven luck just to be on the safe side and start gaining momentum. Power of endurance required. The easier way is armageddon but it may prove ineffective if he sees through your plan and takes protection/boneward.

Long battles benefit Necro and Academy big time and I was playing against my mate, I was Naadir and he was Karli...I had summon and dark and my phoenix did huge damage to his troops so ghosts came up and it save me in the battle big time. Now he is saying that he wants to ban Naadir cos it's not fair, saying that he wouldv'e won if it was against another necro hero. So I want to prove him wrong. Think I want to go for build:

Luck - soldiers luck, protection, dwarven luck (against dark)
Dest magic - cold death (against phoenix)
Leadership
Sorcery (but 2% might not get offered)

Plus dwarves are difficult for their main stat, def or spellpower...

Do you think this is a cool build against Naadir?

I'd swap sorcery for defence and get offence instead of leadership.
Why?
better perks for numerous lower tier dwarven units, more benefitial in longer fights and harder for naadir to proc his passive skill since you just won't die.
especially with necros abysmall attack stat.

btw, you dont need destructive to counter phoenix - even if it does good damage to you you can still stun it to oblivion: mass haste - rune of thunderclap, blackbears, battleragers, cripple with skirmishers.
