Lots of people used to think Gyrados was cool back in the day... but hated the electricity weakness very much.
*sigh* No time for those games these days.

On a different note, there's a 'vote for your favorite Pokemon' thing on the main site if anyone cares. Whichever one wins is going to end up in the Dream World.
EDIT:
Event to download Victini over Wi-Fi starts today!
EDIT:
Aaand Arceus won the vote again. So free Alpha Pokemon come February.

Obligatory reminder that Mewtwo AND Arceus are available via event right now--Mewtwo over Wi-Fi and Arceus via Dream World.
EDIT: Apparently Black and White are going to have sequels.
EDIT: Yay, I finally got all my Silver Symbols! My Lansat Berry is currently in the dirt.

I'm considering buying either gen 4 or gen 5. I've already played gen 2, so I don't want to replay it in gen 4. On the other hand, if the other gen 4 games are related to those which are copies of the gen 2 games I've played, then that could be interesting. On the other hand, gen 5 is newer, so there's most likely more variety and it doesn't make much sense to get used to a battle system, which is already obsolete due to age.
So which one would you recommend I buy?
I am mainly interested in exciting and difficult fights (where pokemons of my opponent are of the same level as mine, e.g. like the battle tower in pokemon crystal) against the computer and a high variety in pokemons to capture from early in the game.

I'd reccommend gen 5 then. Unlike gen 4 it isn't almost insultingly easy the first 25-35 levels of your team.

I used a double negative.
Gen 4 is insultingly easy, gen 5 isn't. Even with planning ahead, gen 5 can be quite the challenge. And planning ahead is reccommended.
High variation in (actually) pokemon early on is impossible. As no gen realy has that.
Also, gen 5 is all new pokemon and no old ones untill the elite 4, which makes for an entirely new feel(for me).

Oh I see. Yes sorry, I read "isn't" as "is".
I imagine when you say "new" you mean pokemons originating in gen 5, while in gen 4, it'd be pokemon originated in gen 4, etc. so if you like me are mostly interested in gen 1+2 pokemons, new pokemon games probably aren't very interesting.
Thank you a lot!

Well, if all you want is pokemon from gen 1+2, then no, you'll have to stick to the remakes. And yes, when I say new, I mean pokemon originating in that gen. Gen 4 has pokemon from gen 1 to 4, whereas gen 5 has only gen 5 pokemon untill you beat the elite 4. To which I haven't gotten yet, as I never got past the grinding training I was faced with before I faced them, which is something that has put me off in every gen since gen 1(With the exception of gen1 remake).
Then again, I find gen 5 to have a very similar feel to gen 1, due to it having only pokemon from it's own gen.

What grinding training?
No seriously, I follow you. If you try to train too many pokemon and can't speed up the game, it can be very very bothersome. But if you work with like 3-4 pokemons, then they'll all be around level 32-37, when you face Elite4 and their level 42-50 pokemons. At this point it should be easy to win, because of all the boosts you get from your badges and because you most likely won't play like an idiot, i.e. the opponent computer.
Of course you'd still need a couple of revive/full heal/full restore, so you can have every pokemon fit for fight for the next battle, but items in battle shouldn't be necessary.
One could also just train 1-2 pokemons (level 46-50 at elite4) with 1hko attacks and when the battle begins give an x speed and an x accuracity for easy ownage

Try battling lots of Audino (they appear in the shaking grass and give lots of XP). Also give the Lucky Egg to the Pokemon you're training.

OHKO attacks wasn't supposed to be the only mean of dealing damage, but a method for easy dealing with a trainer with 6 times as many, about equal leveled, pokemons.
I imagine stuff like ghost types can be taken down by a single shadow ball since having only 1-2 pokemons would mean you'd be very overleveled generally. Heck once in a gen 2 game, I ended up with a level 60 graveller and haunter around gym 5 but back then I had no idea what I was even supposed to do

Yeah, well, if the elite 4 have pokemon in the range of 47-50(as is the case in gen 5), I want my entire team of 6 to be at least level 45. Mostly because I do not want to have to rely on using items in the battles, cause I'm a terrible judge on when to use'm. Now, I honestly cannot tell what levels my team is. But training them from what is likely a 38-42 range to 45 is quite the grind.
