Watched Jurrasic Park Fallen Kingdom and I wonder how much of the series "spirit" is left. A movie about an island of Dinosaurs turns into a a cheap horror like movie with genetically enchanced Raptor stalking an irritating screamer kid who hides under a comforter waiting for it to "go away"... not to mention it follows a similar formula to Lost World.
The "save the environment" message is so incredibily in your face, and idiotic at the same time:
- "Free the dinos!".
- "It's also our fault they were created, and those are our 'responibility' now". "Yeah so like, free them!".
(*my personal thought: "umm but those are some 12-meter long killer machines...")
- "Yeah free them, nature always finds a way!".

Well the movie premise is kinda logical: we re-created the Dinos, now we gotta take responisbility. That is the "what if" scenario that can be traced back to the human history of introducing foreign animals to a habitat which balance was shaken in the process. And there is ofc the matter of using the Dinos as bio-weapons. All of this is speculation.
But omo it's executed poorly in the movie.

It is certainly an action movie with Gothic horror themes as decor. It’s about fast paced battle scenes, not suspense. Horror is when you wait for things to happen, not when Dread Sisters dive in from the sky and Van Helsing goes Space Invaders on them.

Yeah that's why I'm wondering what genre it actually is. It's an action movie for sure, but the setting is Gothic Horror (Monsters straight from 19th century books).
The movie comes from a director who made another popular remake - "The Mummy" (1999) which is a direct homage to 1930s adventure movies... so you can trace some horror inspirations in them.
I dislike how many people treat these movies: they are meant to be fun spoofs of movies of old, yet critics are all about "bad CGI" and rolling their eyes.

Deadpool 2
well, to quote Alexander Anderson of Hellsing Abridged - Second Verse same as the first.
It's entertaining, it's over the top it's deadpool. and Deadpool being Deadpool, you even fine all those SJW talk points as entertaining rather than annoying.
They did missed an opportunity to be less racist and make NTW's lesbian lover a bloated black girl. who is also disabled. But then again the villain was an obese mexican boy, so the movie is also catering to Trumptards, which is nice. we all love to shoot hispanics on sight while chanting "build the wall".
overall, a fun little time waster.

Alien Covenant, yeah. The movie is about the Android once again though, not about Aliens. I liked it better than Prometheus, yet that might not be saying much.

Both movies excelled in stupid decisions and behaviour in a hostile environment, though. At times it felt as if though the people involved were hell-bent on getting themselves killed instead of trying to survive.

It's a tradition in horror movies (Alien is a semi-horror franchise) for characters to be so moronic it takes a lot of willpower not to cheer whenever they die.
Plus, in fairness, I think a lot of people overestimate how rational they would be if a flesh-eating super alien with acid blood was coming after them so it could plant a baby inside their chest cavity. Sometimes the panic and hysteria is believable, but other times the characters are just stupid for no particular reason.

I lol'ed so hard in the theater when one of the characters in the expeditionary group ordered the group to split up. I think this was even after they had that encounter with the alien during the night time.
Another wtf moment came when the two characters started having sex in the shower mere hours after several of their comrades got killed.
I'm trying to think, were movies always this stupid?

I'm going to pick up a topic that was discussed earlier, which is changing the sex, gender, etc... of established characters.
There's an interesting youtuber who made a video on the topic. He's a self-described libertarian who's frequently antagonistic to SJWs. It's especially interesting because he's a black dude.
Here's why the topic interests me. I would assume that being hostile to changing the sex, gender, orientation, etc... of established characters would be a hallmark of SJWs. Basically you're following in the footsteps of white, cis, men while denying yourself the opportunity to create your own identity.
The opposite seems to be the case though, which is that it is the SJWs that are frequently promoting this trend (for example the Marvel character reboots I mentioned earlier).
Some examples:
Ice Man in the comics was clear hetero for a long time and then they made him gay.
Hulk was rebooted as a sentient, chinese, supergenious.
People clamoring for a female James Bond.
There's even been some buzz about turning Thor into a chick in the MCU (actually, rumors are swirling about Taika Waititi doing a movie on this and I'd trust him to play it for laughs like it ought to be).
I doubt there's any true SJWs on this forum but I'm interested if anybody will step forward and defend this particular artistic trend.

Because SJW want to hit where it hurts: by reworking beloved, established characters. You know, fanboy tears and such. Somewhere between the lines there might be some higher purpose, but SJW are all about being "in-your-face!"...
