The questions is pretty much an easy one, the two races are wizzards and dark elfs. Why?

- Very simple, academies creatures are menssioned in the PDFs few this, as well as the wizzard guys that thing himself for a god, so they are in;
- Since H6 is going to has a plot based in the same universe as H5, it means that we can not have necro without wizzards, since necromansers are wizzards kind;
- Queen Isabel's war is in 969 year (the events in H5), 400 years back mean 569, during this time necromansers still live in the Silver cities, so they can not be in whit no wizzards;
- Again the year is 469, if you look at the timeline, there is a lot of action and events with the dark elfs during this perioud, there was war between them and humans and elfs, the got a kingdom, they were blamed for destroying the elven capitol and etc.

Second idea is that we have orcs, since they have war with ther wizzards and they went to an island, most likely the same one where the skull of shadows was kept in DM. But this happens in 504, but who knows. Wizzards are 100% in.

I don't think your argument on Academy/Necropolis is true. It could be that they decided that Necropolis simply takes the place of Academy at this time. The scism between Necromancers and Academy could be a handy subtheme for (re-)introducing Academy in later expansions. Much as I don't hope it's so, the fact that Dessert is out as terrain and that we only get one more old faction points strongly to no Academy for me.

Someone (made a slip?) and made a reference to the game play style of the Elves in one of the early interviews - it might be nothing, it might be a mistake as in there are no Elves, but I think the fourth faction will be Sylvan (hence the autumn plains terrain). The fifth faction would be likely to be associated with the Jungle (why introduce this terrain otherwise), probably some sort of Naga/Lizardmen.

I can be wrong but I think that when they use that kind of references, they are probably just assuming we all played H5, so when they say things like "this unit will be like a treant" is not thay they are confirming that in H6 there will be treants, is more to make us think, ok, so this will be a slow moving creature with great defense, like the treants in H5.
but on the other hand, i think that the reference u mean, was a little more strong than that, one that said something about how the necropolis gameplay was more about prolonging the combat, but the elfs were more about ending combat quickly or something like that...
but still, that doesn't mean that the elfs are comming in the first release, it only says that they have given some general thoughts about how will the factions be and that the polarity between those two factions was very good to make an example

Still, now that i think about it, in H5, wizards and elfs were my least favorited factions (even tho their cities were beautiful), so I hope whichever they make, they make it better

Here's my point:
Lots of people are thinking of a whole Faceless faction. Yet If we pay attention to it, Faceless can be compared to Angle. So my bet is Faceless will be a "Lvl 7" creature (Champion), from the brand new faction. Other tiers are said to be new too, so I will not try to picture them (beholders, minotaurs, even blind brothers maybe, I do not know and am not familiar enough to H5 mythology).

Therefore I can think to the last 5th faction.
I cannot imagine a Heroes game without dragons nor Titans.
From there I have 3 clues that make me vote for Academy :
- Dragons are legendary creatures that can easily stand as neutral, just like Phoenix, and be used as bosses. We could figure dragons were not affiliate at that time to any faction. Titans though can hardly be to me ;
- In terms of Gameplay, we know Haven is Defensive, Inferno Offensive, Undead "Longlasting", so Academy would easily turn to "100% Magic gameplay style". I mean I can imagine of nothing but magic creatures (spell casters, doppelgangers, etc.)
- the last clue are lands : if we have Haven in plains, Inferno in lava, Undead in Wastelands (which look quite obvious), I would put the Faceless containing faction underground, so the last land being jungle, I see more Academy than Elves (or any other) there.

Do not consider anything the pdf said for granted, I have good reason to say so.

Kilop in CH translated some more from Archangel's castle. There should be a number that you did not know.

- 40 to 60 hours of campaign gameplay
- hotkeys available for combat / adventure
- no heroes on the battlefield (like in H3)
- advanced classes
- area of effect for ranged units
- arena up to 50% bigger
- only one role for each creature : support, dps, tank, rusher
- archers can go in the main tower
- offensive and defensive position (formations?)
- capacities to shield from range (probably refers to line of sight)
- no caravans (not needed anymore)
- neutral blue phoenixes (cause they are linked to the moon)
- a special ability for each faction, will charge during combat with 4 levels
- no more trolls lutins, gremlins, there SHOULD be dragons
- haven is tanky weak offense and lots of heals, racial: guardian angel , gives might/magic immunity to a stack
- necro : weak offense and defense , no moral debuff and long fights, dots, racial: necromancy (resurrection)
- inferno : strong offense, strong defense, low morale, racial: gating

Edit:

Translation says lutin = elf, gnome, goblin, imp, pixie, puck I believe it refers to leprechauns.

Others already said the Necropolis is also a "very magic" faction so another one would be redundant. And like I said, a non-magic faction is just as plausible, if you think about it, it's easier to achieve 5 different factions if one of them has no proper access to magic. So I think for gameplay purposes, Stronghold would be a possibility.

I guess that Elf mention in the Czech preview was probably nothing more than wishful thinking, they didn't show any new factions at Gamescom, no other preview hinted at any possibility for the Elves being included, seems Ubi was making sure nothing leaks. Same thing for the pdf's, they wouldn't reveal a faction via another one, most likely they used the comparison only because Necropolis faction comes from the Wizard. If they are so tight-lipped about other factions, it just wouldn't make sense they'd let it slip like that.

It looks great!

Some notes: imo vampires should be able to move further then ghouls (that is also something i didn't like in h5, for me vampires should be chargers, like in h4); and also i saw a four leaf clover but it adds something else than luck, that feels strange; i didn't understand that yellow bar in the right filling up during the attack.

For all we know it could be the effect of a skill/spell. That may not be their normal speed and if it is we don't really know how powerful they are. Unfortunately I do not know stats or how units are being balanced.

I think one of the factions will be Academy, because Djinns and Wizards were mentioned in the pdfs.

Academy could be in an early concept stage and scheduled for an expansion.

Undead, Humans, Demons and (?) Elves, if such are the first four factions in H6, will mirror the four factions available in Disciples III (elves, humans, demons) and its upcoming addon (undead). Probably Ubi are planning to steal audience from a competing brand. It's a known fact Disciples III aren't that great, so veteran Disciples II fans will probably migrate over to H6 when they see it's more fun but still has every D2/D3 race available. That's also a good reason for Ubi to consider an expansion with Dwarves, as that race is planned in #2 addon for D3.

As of now, Wizards, no matter how crucial to the Might and Magic tradition they are, partially duplicate Necromancers in terms of style and tactics. The much loved Academy... not the wisest choice for a core fraction, but may lead to a totally new concept of Wizards in future expansions. I can only hope I'm mistaken.

Also, I've found a very interesting piece of information on the hierarchy of undead ( source: http://mightandmagic.wikia.com/wiki/Necromancer_(H5) ) It seems to sway from the state of things in H5, but fits the current H6 lore perfectly:

Quote:
The Hierarchy of Heresh

To become a lord of the Necromancers is the ideal of all who have chosen this path, though there are many other forms of unlife that have relatively more or less importance. In fact a Necromancer is not necessarily one of the non-living; in particular those who go on embassies to foreign lands are often still in human form. As they gain power, however, they inevitably choose to pass through the portal of death, becoming one of the undead. Little is known of this rite of passage to outsiders, as it involves the bite of the sacred spiders, the Namtaru, who dwell in the catacombs deep beneath the capital of Nar-Heresh.

Those who make this passage first become Asakkus, or "Liches", their bodies desiccated but intact, freed from the passions of the flesh to meditate undistracted.

As the decades pass, and they grow in power, they may earn the right to become Akhkharus, or "Vampires". For a Vampire is the most potent incarnation of a once-human form, one of the unliving lords of Heresh who hold sway over both the dead and undead. Once a Lich ascends to take the form of a Vampire he ages backwards. The longer a Necromancer is undead, the younger and healthier he looks. The ruling council of the Lords of Heresh all appear to be in their mid-twenties, beautiful and unchanging.

Rabisus, or "Ghouls", on the other hand, are distinctly lesser undead. Formed when a Necromancer forces a soul to remain in a dead body, they are trapped between life and death. They are tormented; filled with hatred for the living. Powerful Necromancers can control them, but otherwise they are wild and destructive. Transformation into a ghoul is used as the ultimate punishment in Heresh, and is a means of permanently removing a soul from the cycle of death and transformation.

Zombies and skeletons are the least potent, mere soulless bodies re-animated by death magic. They shamble about following orders, and even the lowliest Necromancer can command them with absolute authority.

Edimmus (ghosts, spectres and wraiths), finally, are disembodied spirits of the dead. They can be trapped, geased, and commanded by sufficiently powerful Necromancers, though in Heresh they are more often used as scouts and allies. Ghosts can barter their services for favors done for their descendants, for deeds done among the living, or for aid in returning to a body -- living or not -- and entering once more into Asha's great cycle.

Those wishing to further study the lore of the Necromancers and the history of Heresh are invited to peruse one of the great libraries of the Silver Cities, perhaps one of those in Qays or Fidaa. The eager student may even travel to Heresh to learn from the source, though those who do so seem, upon their return, to be somewhat altered...

The racial ability is filling up during combat and can reach 4 levels of powers (depending if you use it when you can or if you let it charge up)

Ok, i know i'm new around here but one thing i must say: people, enough with the speculations about which faction will remain in the core game. we will have wizards or elves or dark elves as a fourth faction, 2/3 of all of us will be unsatisfied and there is nothing we can do, the developers might listen to the fans (and i hope they will) about a lot of stuff but (should) not about something like this (which should be story oriented). this is the BIG news thread, get a topic for those speculations and i'll happily introduce you with some of mine. we'll know in november, we waited for several years, surely few months is not a lot. there, sorry about it, but every second post here is: i saw a pdf, someone mentioned something about a possible somewhat...

Now where was I, yes, the hierarchy thing is quite interesting, we might see another knew thing, it seems to me that low level heroes cannot control high level creatures.

The hierarchy was part of H5 lore except for the namtaru reference. Only issue was that vampire was lower tier than lich in the game, otherwise the ubi newsletters with their lore stories said otherwise.

And Gauldoth is right, still arguing about which factions are in is like beating a dead horse. Yes 5 starting races are few for most people's tastes but right now we can only wait and see. This thread is mostly for reporting H6 features and feedback on them, if we clutter it with guesswork it will only make things harder both for fans to focus on the new stuff(either by burying the important posts or causing confusion about WHAT is official) and the devs to draw conclusions by having to read through ALL that. Speculation might be better directed in the other sticky which has a more general content.

Just another point for your consideration.

Underground is an announced terrain.

What kind of creatures will be used for guarding treasures / artifacts / etc dispersed across the underground?

Keep in mind that high-level treasure requires high-level guardians. It's unlikely they will make a dozen different neutrals just for one terrain.
