Quote: The town models on the map may be meant to be iconic, rather than an indication of all the buildings in the town. For example, in the Haven town all of the buildings around the castle look the same. I doubt this will be the case on the town screen.
I don't think that's the case because at first there weren't going to be any town screens. So how would the player see the buildings he built if it's only those town models? The town models had to fit every building in.

But the Necro town is just one big building in the shots I have seen so far. And the Haven town has almost no interesting buildings aside from the central one. I find it hard to believe that that represents the town screen.

Well, the worst case scenario is:
1. No Blacksmith, since there are no war machines
2. No Magic Guilds, since spells are acquired from skill trees
3. Fort/Citadel/Castle are just the walls around your town.
4. One Creature Dwelling with three upgrades for the core, elite, and champions
5. No Tavern or marketplace, they could be assimilated into other buildings such as the Town Hall.
6. 4 unique buildings but only 2 slots as has been confirmed. These include Town Portals.
7. No Shipyard, could only be an adventure map building.
So with that, we have an adventure map model of a town, featuring two unique buildings, an upgradeable town hall, upgradeable fort, upgradeable creature dwelling, and the judgment hall for advanced classes.
That's only 6 buildings per town and that's if you count the walls as a building.

To be honest I think I liked you better Kodial when you posted scornfully towards all other haters, this just isn't the same. :/
By the way, pay a visit in the RMG thread, I need your opinion...
Edit: and concerning different dwellings for all different units, I'm fairly sure that's still the case. At least that what I assumed from reading some ancient Cepheus post...

8 actually, you need separate dwelling for Core, Elite and Champion, because the creatures themselves have upgrades.

I'm not Ubi's fanboy. I'm praising them when they do something I like, but I'm also bashing them when they do things that I don't like.
I like what they did with their factions units, the hero classes, some new game mechanics etc. But I don't like what they're doing with town screens.
As for the RMG, I really said all I had to before. Now with this recent interview with Erwan, hinting that possibly an RMG is in the plans for the future. Well, I'm really happy with that.
I've set three conditions that must be met before I buy the game. Not just five factions, include RMG, no DRM. Maybe not with the initial release but at least with the first expansions, maybe all my wishes will be granted.
Only the Town Screens will be a thorn in my side and stop me from calling the game perfect but I still think it will be the best Heroes game yet.

Well we don't really know that much about the town screens so far, aside from them being 2d and potentially windowed.
edit:Yeah Veco, I remember the same thing.

As much as Elvin is in the VIP forums and knows quite a lot about the game, he was wrong if he said it. I may assure you that there was a point when the town screens were to be discarded. But for many different reasons the decision was either revised, or postponed.

Hmm, are you a member of the VIP forum or something?
It would be kind of cool if the towns were built on the map screen, and when you clicked on a town you zoomed into it to see the details and a town UI appeared. I wonder if they originally planned something like that, if you're correct.

Nope, I'm not in the VIP forums. And as much as its members know a lot more about the details of the game than I do, I tend to know more about the major ideas that they arose from.
And as for the towns, well it didn't really work like that. As much as your idea sounds pretty cool, the initial concepts were much more simple. But I don't think I should get into too much detail...

It will be such a sad day when the very spirits of the towns - the town screens - and nearly the whole town building element are destroyed. And for ridiculous reasons aswell.
They seem to be hoping to make the Starcraft 2 of Turn-based games. Well, that's never going to happen with Heroes. And I HATE that they remove some very iconic and essential stuff from the Heroes series. Its a bit sad, because I thought H6 looked like by far the best Heroes game in the series but the town screens and town building elements are very iconic and important for me in the HoMM games, and I am not sure that I will get used to their deaths. (mini-screens are dead town screens to me)

OK, has anybody actually confirmed that there will be no town screens but town windows? They first mentioned something like that half an year ago and a lot of time passed since then. Some people here state it like it's an iron-clad fact which - as far as I know - it isn't.

There's no use hyperventilating over things we know very little about. It is months before release, and they need to space out their announcements to maintain interest in the game.

A few days ago hahakocka said that he read that in a Hungarian magazine if I remember right. It should be in one of his post a few pages back. Well, many pages back by now.
EDIT: Actualluy, I found the post. He said that in March 1st, and the Hungarian magazine he got it from is Gamestar.

Honestly, I'm already getting used to the idea of a town window. It may not be the ideal step forward, but they're simplifying that aspect of gameplay, streamlining it. What I'm less thrilled about is the fact that there are only four unique buildings per faction, and you have to choose only two of them. I'm a little worried, as has already been stated, that there won't be a whole lot to build. In which case, having a whole town screen wouldn't make sense. But it seems a little bit lacking.

Hopefully they will also increase that aspect in future expansions. Something that imo has been lacking and missing in previous expansions.
