Considering it's a "Panther" warrior, the high claw sweeps make sense, big cats tend to aim for the head area, specifically the neck.
Problem with his animation is though that not every enemy is the same height or even has it's head in the same general area of it's ocupied square.
The animation was probably chosen for it's height because there are more enemies with available vital bodyparts in that area of the victim's square then there are short ones for whom the swing will be to high.
It was a choice really between the attack looking silly against small targets vs the attack looking silly versus medium and large ones, they chose the former.
Then bear in mind, you're most often getting a bird's eye view of the action, so more often then not, if the attack does "visually" miss, you will not be able to see it due to the angle of the camera.
Also consider that whilst it is a rather large unit, the claw sweep seems even higher because his head is positioned rather low thanks to his massive hunch.
That's my hypothesis anyway.

Wow, you really think that when they made the attack animation they spent even 1 minute thinking how much sense they'll make? Remember the Vampire throwing his sword in the air and jumping to catch it?
Seriously though, I think we agreed some time ago that the common sense isn't something that should be searched for in Heroes VI.

A pounce, followed by an overarm smash, and then another, hmm...
The arm flailing is a tad bit ridiculous though.
Does anyone know if it's a special ability or its normal melee attack?
EDIT: I'm at work and can't be bothered to look it up myself

Another beautifull piece of music has been released. Check the news topic.
A soothing and slightly Asian piece. Mr. Romero and Mr. King are putting together a most wonderous soundtrack, if you ask me.

It's not asian, It's just from Heroes II.
Also If you check Romero's Youtube profile, You'll find there a video, where he plays exactly this melody on Piano. "Just fir fun" - he mentioned. He also plays Necromancers theme from POL in that video. So, I guess we will hear it in another "just for fun" H6 melody.

I'd say that's a rather unfair generalization, it can't all be drunk design.
Edit: let me rephrase that, "I'll assume it isn't all drunk design."
And I think that is where we disagree.
Like I said, I will try to assume the designers are not idiots in every instance until I simply cannot see another option.
The Vampire's animation is simply "over the top", quite a few animations and visual design elements are, and those are like that by design.
I'll admit they made a lot of stupid mistakes or at least bad calls of judgement, but other then the town-screen/town-window, I will try to figure out why, and often come to a theory that satisfies me at least on "why" (if I like it or not is a different story).
The town-screen/town-window thing I still cannot find a satisfying answer for myself and will thus assume it is just a stupid mistake, but let's not open that can of worms again.

I bet it's "Feral Charge" or "All-around Slash" so it must be special ability.

Agree, aside of that, let's hope they also apply the learning from mistake and not put dark elemental into Dungeon Line-up in expansion.

Yeah, it's the sea theme from H2. This week it seems we'll get only remixed old pieces of Heroes art. Probably the others will stay for dessert in September.
These pieces are great but now I want to hear something more aggressive. The soundtrack of the animations is a perfect battle theme IMO. Also I hope that there will be more than one battle theme.

No, not idiots. Whether the animations or the design in general makes sense has nothing to do with how smart or creative they are but rather with what are their objectives. Everybody can say that the design is good or bad using his personal preferences as a base but the lack of common sense is pretty much an iron-clad fact.

I love homm music however I would be totally fine if they were to simply bring back the same music from previous games and instead spend some more time on.... gee I don't know maybe on creating the sixth faction or a few more neutrals that aren't elementals or flying fishes dusguised as little Ariel...
Just my two cents, but yeah the music is nice, with that I do agree

Quote: but the lack of common sense is pretty much an iron-clad fact.
And that is to me still an overgeneralization, far from factual.
Common sense itself in regards to this game is already a pretty nebulous term, especially considering forums like these are made up of a vocal minorities.
But lets just come to the conclusion that we will not agree on this.
Edit: and sorry for assuming you were insulting the devs with idiocy, that was a bit unfair of me.
Back on topic:
Do you think we'll get another screenshot this week that actually solidly pins down a neutral?
We're getting very close to the (planned) Beta window, it would be nice if they do not use that as an excuse to hand out un-informative screenshots.
I want to see the bloody Light and Water neutrals and if they are or are not similar to the Glory and Spring Spirit.

Well as much as I'm certain that Rob and Anthony are cool guys, I doubt that they are doing the music for the game out of the goodness of their hearts, money is a resource.... You take from one department and give it to the other one, that's how it goes, but once again, I like the music, I think they are really talented and that they are doing an awesome job, what I have said was merely my opinion hence the use of "my 2 cents"

I hope so. I'm really disappointed about mermaid thingy but this is another topic. It’s time to see Moon Phoenix, Light and Water Elementals if they exist. The Moon Phoenix looks cool on the t-shirt but I want to se in-game model. If the Light and Water Elementals don’t exist I wanna see which creatures are put in.
